    Putting Doug Brocail in the game with a 7-run lead isn't really dumb. He sucked, now he's been taken out. It happens.

    not sure if you are aware, but that's considered bad mojo around here. Why? just curious. My college team used to do it all the time when we had a lead late. Its fairly common in baseball. Do you not remember 2003? Of course. But attempt to rationally explain how that has anything to do with counting down outs in a game between St. Louis and Milwaukee in 2007? :)

    Marquis was good in April and May. He's been very un-good since. Point is though, he's till been twice the pitcher than Estes was in 03.

    I don't understand the comparison at all. Estes had a 74 ERA+ with the Cubs (lower before his final game) and hadn't had a quality start since August 8th before his great start to end his year. Meanwhile Marquis has a 105 ERA+ and has had 3 quality starts out of 5 in September. There is simply no basis for comparison between the two. You're reading too much into it. All he's saying is that he hopes Marquis can pitch a gem like Estes did in 2003. Both of them weren't highly thought of all year long, only to pitch a gem when we really needed it toward the end of the season. Estes wasn't highly thought of for a reason. Marquis hasn't been highly thought of because everyone for the most part ripped his signing and are unwilling to admit he hasn't been that bad. I think that is the point he's trying to make.

    Whether he starts Tracshel or one of the other pitchers (Hart, Gallagher, Marshall, or Piggy), he should keep a short leash on the pitcher. Tracshel might be okay the first time through the lineup (3 innings) and then bring in Marshall or Gallagher for 3 innings and Hart or Piggy for a couple and then go to the regular end-of-the-game bullpen guys. I guess I am the only one that thinks it would be ridiculous to put the season in the hands of Piggy or Gallagher, both of whom have not seen any action in weeks. Start Hill on his normal rest, problem solved. They are going to have to bite the bullet and go with a 5th starter one of these days, be it Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. So starting Hill only delays the problem, not solves it. Then I'd go with Marshall, who has seen some action, although very little. I think the chances of winning are higher with a Marshall/Trachsel tandem then any other combo. I'd throw Hart out there as a possibillity, but he's become one of the main guys out of the pen lately. He'd probably be lost for the year if he makes any kind of start. Obviously it boils down to tonight's games. If the Cubs can somehow go up by 3 again I think Trachsel will be the guy.

    (Posted this in the 9/25 game thread) Going into the Cincy series last week at home the consensus was that if the Cubs won the remaining of their series they would take the division. So far they have done just that. 2 out of 3 from Cincy 3 out of 3 against Pitt 2 left with Fla 3 left w/ Cincy They are 5-2 thus far with 5 to play. 3-2 the rest of the way accomplishes that goal with room to spare.

    Cause you have to have any kind of speed at all to score from third on a hit. Sac-Fly, which he could not score on.
