  1. The Cubs have been in to see Indiana prep SS Timmy Borden on multiple occasions this Spring, along with a slew of other teams as well.
  2. Not adding Giminez keeps the 40 man at 39, right? Maybe they are considering a late addition?
  3. No it’s not. Please make many jokes and let’s have general jocularity about the event. meh - it would work better if they didn't have Kolten Wong and Tommy Pham as starters in their lineup. Or Carlos Martinez, who I love.
  4. The Cardinals signing Bud “too many foreign players in MLB” Norris right after the Cubs signing Darvish is just to easy to even make jokes about.
  5. Did anyone happen to catch the first posting of that article? The author wrote that the Cubs failed to advance past the Nationals in the NLDS in 2017, leaving them at two NLCS appearances in the last 3 years. It was quickly edited, but how do you take the rest of the article seriously after that?
  6. https://www.vivaelbirdos.com/st-louis-cardinals-sabermetrics-analysis/2018/1/16/16889268/cardinals-cubs-rivalry-projections-2018
  7. Rosenthal says its 2 years and 21 million (9 million in 2018 and 2019). 3 million buyout or 12 million vesting option for 2020.
  8. Cobb does seem inevitable at this point. Assuming he signs, they would be in a pretty good spot to sit back and see what comes their way either through free agency or trade. I’d agree the bullpen needs another piece, and at this point my preference would be someone who could fill that 9th inning role. The questions becomes is that person found in free agency or via trade?
  9. Considering the concerns on Morrow’s workload, is it crazy to think they still look to acquire a closer and keep Morrow out of that role?
  10. Can we all just appreciate how amazing it must be to be a reliever in professional baseball these days? Morrow had a 7.00+ ERA, 1.5 WHIP, and gave up more than 11 hits per nine in AAA....last year.
  11. For every positive thing I find (statcast data, GB rate) there is something that offsets it (walk rate, strikeout rate). But, that is probably true for every 5th starter in the league. Can’t really say if I like it, but I don’t hate it. How’s that for analysis? I trust the research and analysis capability of the FO though.
  12. I was pleased with his .480 SLG, finished just short of an .800 OPS. I didn’t think anything was egregious, but I think his 2017 offensive season was better than 2016. I think he was destined to slide some defensively after having such a crazy 2016 with the glove. The Cardinals coming in 9th seemed a tad high.
  13. You have to love the power rankings piece for 2018 before any moves are made. Cubs are 8th. “Look, they should be good again, and maybe even better. That young foundation of position players remains, but while Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo were great in 2017, Addison Russell and Javier Baez didn't improve, and Kyle Schwarber has to do better than a .211 average and .315 OBP, given his subpar defense. The Cubs will have to replace free agents Jake Arrieta and John Lackey in the rotation, and given Jon Lester's age and inconsistent 2017, there is potential for a rotation collapse. Most likely, the Cubs will have to trade Russell, Baez or Ian Happ for some pitching help.” Baez didn’t improve???? http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/21139850/ranking-mlb-teams-ahead-offseason
  14. Lackey signed a 2/32 deal at age 37, and that was 2 years ago. I'm not exactly over the moon about paying Chatwood in particular that money, but that is the going rate for FA SP with question marks, especially if it's not a long deal. I'm with you. I should have expanded my point to include that is just the economics of baseball these days. Still crazy. Too bad I topped out in the low 80's...and I even had the advantage of being left-handed.
  15. Chatwood in the neighborhood of 16-18 million per year seems absolutely crazy. I completely agree that he is intriguing and feel getting him out of Coors would be a great benefit to him. He's very intriguing, but I would be a lot less intrigued if that is the asking price. Despite the splits, he is still a guy with a high walk rate and a low strike out rate.
  16. Good luck with your decision. I've never been one that can watch a game from one of my teams at a bar. Just doesn't work for me. I'll be in my basement tonight. My son will hang in for a bit with me, but I'll usually watch the majority of it alone. I much prefer that to a bar.
  17. I'm not sure I'd classify myself as confident. I do like that Hendricks is lined up. It's not like the Nationals have been tearing the cover off the ball either. I like being on the road. Let the Nats deal with the Game 5 nerves in their own yard. Ideally the Cubs could get a couple early and let Kyle do his thing. I'm sure the crowd will be into it, but I just like this team hitting first and getting away from home. As for the offense, I'll ignore the stats and just be a meathead and say they are due for a breakout. I'm not sure what to expect out of Scherzer or how much he will factor in. As for Gio/Roark, there is no reason this lineup shouldn't get to them. I am not saying they will, but whenever they are in the game the Cubs need to take advantage.
  18. The 6 games as opposed to 4 is likely due to Inter-league rotation being AL Central v. NL Central. I've not looked at other teams that have these protected rallies to test that theory though.
  19. Records since the ASB: Cubs 32-15 LA. 31-14 WAS 30-17 The Cubs have picked up 10 games on Milwaukee since the ASB.
  20. I knew Zagunis had on base skills, but had no idea his career OBP was over .400. On a related note he is my 9 yr old son's favorite prospect. 2 years ago in Myrtle Beach we were given a tour of the clubhouse and my son just had to use the Pelicans bathrooms and he did his business at the urinal next to Mark. As a 7 year old, my son still practiced the drop your pants to your ankles technique. This got a laugh, and apparently formed quite the bond with my son.
  21. will be interesting to see where he goes. LSU maybe? I'm sure IU hopes he goes somewhere. I think the $4 million buyout is reduced significantly if he takes another job.
  22. Tom Crean has been fired by IU.
  23. Pretty sure the buyout is 4 million until July 1st.
  24. if he was going to get canned, why is IU waiting? I don't think it's going to happen this year. There just seems to be quite a bit of smoke surrounding it. I think it is already in the works. Crean has 3 years left on his contract, so that doesn't sell real well when trying to recruit kids. Lots of names being rumored about from the likes of Alford (ugh), to the likely unreasonable (Donovan).
