trying to hit the ball on the ground isn't wise. Really? Neither is trying to hit the ball in the air. more hits will come via the ground than air. Obviously if you are leaving line drives out of the conversation you can't leave line drives out of the equation. the intent should be to hit line drives all of the time. Obviously. But your still more likely to get a hit on the ground vs. a fly ball. i never said you should try to hit fly balls. i believe that trying to hit fly balls is counter-productive as well. what i said is that you should never try to hit ground balls. regardless of the situation--in any situation, a line drive is going to generally be most productive. I agree in most situations, but not necessarilly in a hit-and-run. With the infield moving, a ball on the ground can easily be a base hit. Or you can line into a DP like barrett just did.
