They were tied at one point, I think. Then the awesome sweep of the Brewers happened. (Still probably my favorite regular-season series) I know we had a slim lead going into that series. My favorite is probably the 5 game set vs the Cardinals in 03 but that sweep is second best.

Pssst...You're the "whacko" with your head in the sand. carry on. the cold hard facts are that the cubs have the best record in baseball even after going through a pretty considerable rough patch and have easily the most talented roster and one of the best managers in the game. 2 days ago we had won 7 of 10. There is some solid Cub fan paranoia going on lately (myself included at times) but this dude's flipout is impressive
