    I never said he was a key player. He has value to the team because he's cheap and decent. We likely wouldn't get anything worthwhile for him in a trade, so that defeats the point. Our division has solid teams, but no great team. That's why we can compete next year. Also, the Cardinals and Brewers are likely losing their superstar first basemen.

    Barney is having a nice season especially on defense. But he is nothing special. We have depth at middle infielder so there is no reason to keep him if some one wants him. The point isn't that we need him. The point is that he's a cheap, young player who isn't going to get us much in a trade. We'd just be trading him for no reason. He'll help the team much more by keeping him. There's no reason to give up on next season already with the payroll we have and the division we're in.

    Well Hendry's got a point. Why would he trade Barney? He wouldn't get much for him, and he is a cheap and decent player. There is no reason to trade him unless some team really wanted him. And oh my god of course we can compete next year. Why won't people stop saying we can't?

    Yeah, Marshall's one of the best relievers in baseball and not that expensive. I definitely want to keep him.

    How do you reconcile this with the risk of stepping to the plate? His entire season is at risk facing 90+ MPH fastballs. Those have been known to break bones, cause concussions, etc. You could think about it for five seconds and realize stepping to the plate is a necessity while throwing his body around like a moron isn't.

    That may be the stupidest thing I have ever read on this board. I can't even understand what he's saying. He wants to win...but he wants to have the worse player playing?

    What could Lou have done to prevent the crappy postseason play? There's really nothing a manager can do besides play the best players, and he did that. He was a fine manager, nothing great, but not awful either. Sure, Dusty got us farther, but he also destroyed our team.

    I'm not sure I understand why giving up Hak Ju Lee was such a bad move. I think he has a chance to be really good, but it's not like he's a future superstar. And we got a really good return for him in Garza.

    Once a week? Dude, quit dissecting everything. You're looking at such a small sample and making premature assumptions. I say we only have a thread at the end of every season, where we discuss which players we were really proud of, and which players we were kinda proud of. But we can't draw any conclusions, cuz their career isn't over.

    Outside of the Keith Law thing (can't seem to find a link for that right now ... where was it again?), was there another report of mid-80's? And wasn't the Law report high-80's? I know JJax was throwing low 90's for a stretch this year. Law on JJax's velocity: "Matt Szczur sucks"
