  1. Ugly, brutal opponent or not, Cubs have to win the games they are supposed to win. That's called getting the job done. Good days work boys, go have a few cold ones.
  2. so apparently catcher's ERA is not a bogus stat! His game calling abilities have been overhyped? Or possibly this was his first time working with Cubs pitchers ever and he probably had only 3 hours of pre-game to go over a game plan most batteries have had spring training and all year? well oakland had the #2 ERA+ in the american league... not saying that kendall was the reason, but obviously somebody is doing something right there. On paper, that team doesn't have great pitching. I was agreeing with you. Disagreeing with the original quote.

  4. average age of the Giants position players= 38
  5. Not with only a 4 run lead. Yeah, put a 1 in front of the 4...then maybe Maybe eyre helped give up a 6 run lead to the rockies...dont dare him to do more cuz he isn't afraid to take aim at a 14 run lead either Yeah, Scotty does dare to dream, doesn't he? We all have dreams. Giving up 14 runs in 1 inning is something to go after.
  6. I say keep with the B-team and throw in Eyre. Get Petrick more work. Gallagher.
  7. Just a question: A writer on Foxsports.com said he predicts the Cubs won't win the division, but the wild card instead. What are peoples takes? Brewers and Cubs both keep it up, and the Cubs overtake the west in the WC? San Diego seems weak without hitting, and Arizona doesn't have that much to keep up.
  8. Let's get another one. Any guess on what Lou's gonna do with CF and RF tonite? Overall Order?
  9. .176 BA .235 SLG .211 OBP .446 OPS She's a beaut, Clark.
  10. i'd trade him for Bill Wennington and a snowball, pending the snowball's salary.
  11. We already started it against Wandy Rodriquez on Sunday afternoon. start, continue. Whatever. Given Wandy's career 5.25 era, beating up on Zito (yes, even though he's HORRIBLE this year) feels like a better pat on the back.
  12. Perfect time and perfect starter to start turning around our results vs. lefty pitchers.
  13. I'd personally be surprised to see Hill still in the game in the 3rd at that point. Then again, we used alot of relievers yesterday, so Lou might leave him in to tough it out. Might hurt the ERA, though. Another point, that might have been brought up or not during yesterday's game: Was anyone listening to the Pat and Ron and hear Ron's 5 minute rant about losing a cookie, accusing some high school players of stealing it, and then finding it under his chair with a hair, the presumed to be blonde although it might have been brown, on the cookie so he had to throw it away and find another cookie? Absolutely hysterical and another reason why I wish Ron never leaves the booth for any reason whatsoever. Pat was dumbfounded and didn't even know what to say to cover up for Ron.
  14. Too bad Aramis isn't there. With his power and love for swinging for the fences, I'm sure he would have tried as hard as anyone.
  15. Not having an afternoon game is absolutely killer for wasting time in the office. This afternoon has been so slow. Making the game seem like it's not getting any closer.
  16. I have umped and refereed myself. It's nice to get a "nice job" now and again. Makes you feel good that you are keeping the sport how it should be.
  17. Interesting take. I don't know if I've ever heard of anyone pointing out how well an ump does in calling balls and strikes. You don't notice them until they screw up. That's exactly how it should be. Umps are there to enforce the rules of the game, not to decide the outcome.
  18. Unbelievable how much the Sox suck.
  19. Cutting work early, hitting the links, then hittin the 19th hole to watch the game. What a Friday! Let's Go Cubs! Cubs chase Maholm in the 5th, score 6-1, win the game 7-4.
  20. BILLY HALL OUT INDEFINATELY WITH SEVERE RIGHT ANKLE INJURY. What news to wake up to!
  21. Come on Sean. Nice article on si.com about the Cubs turnaround.
  22. Great job Pirates. Now, you can go back to your old, losing selves.
  23. Who is half of Pittsburgh's team?
  24. Probably pitchers Cubs will see: Paul Maholm: 4-11, 4.74 Van Benshoten: 0-2, 4.35 in 4 games Shane Youman: 1-0, 3.00 in 1 game. In that game, he gave up 8 hits in 6 innings, the other team only plated 2 of them though. I can't get that afraid of that pitching staff. Except for last game, with the way the Cubs have been hitting, should be a nice finish to the first half of the season.
