  1. one way or the other, Hendry is seriously wrong. look at the pitching the reds pay for, Hill is right in step with Arroyo, Milton. yeah, arroyo sucks.
  2. as far as i know, hendry never said that he wouldn't trade hill for dunn or that hill was untouchable.
  3. i'm relying on you for all minor league info starting...now.
  4. it may technically be w/in the rules, but i wonder how ajp would like it if he got plowed everytime he stood near the plate w/o the ball. i was hoping that aj wouldn't be ejected so that any cub who scored could just nail him regardless of how close the play was...but then i realized the cubs weren't going to score. if by some fluke, the cubs score a run or two, i'd just plow him every time.
  5. the cubs are outhitting the white sox, but losing by seven. yeah, this team doesn't need to start drawing more walks.
  6. i don't know why people had such unrealistic hopes for a guy whose 2005 numbers were driven by a ton of luck. he's got an acceptable OBP, but his SLG just doesn't cut it for a corner OF, especially when you are getting NO pop from 2b, ss, cf, and 1b. i was in favor of trading him for an impact corner OF in the offseason, but oh well. also, at this point, is there anybody who has played well since opening day?
  7. thom, it's getting to the point where this isn't the "start" of the 2006 season. it's the 2006 season.
  8. Just keep waiting, they will even out! oh good, i was beginning to think the cubs just lost all the time because their players suck.
  9. gosh, these bad breaks just keep happening to the poor cubs.
  10. that's being generous.
  11. if lee was in the lineup, the cubs would have 11 runs right now.
  12. Now, now. Neifi was actually one of the best fielding shortstops in baseball last year. Nobody's perfect. And, of course, when you figure offense into the equation, Neifi's not even close to perfect. he hasn't looked like the best fielding anything this year.
  13. neifi's rep for being a good defender is as baseless as walker's rep for being a bad one.
  14. hairston in rf, barrett at dh, blanco at c, neifi at 2nd. no jones.
  15. i joked a couple weeks ago that the cubs would sign womack. i guess the joke's on me. fire everybody.
  16. if the cubs are gonna lose it's going to be while bunting. it's like how a pitcher doesn't want to get beat on his second best pitch. bunting is the cubs' bread and butter, so if they're going down, they're going down bunting. good for them.
  17. at least the cubs didn't stoop to the level of hitting stupid homeruns like those lame nationals. suckers.
  18. the only time blanco's name should have the word 'wash' next to it is if it's his turn to do the laundry. he's old, overpaid, his contract is too long, and he's terrible. blanco's career OPS is .640, mirabelli's is .744.
  19. is it possible to fall down eight times and stand up nine? wouldn't you already be up?
  20. i think we're looking at the same jacque jones, but we certainly differ as to what constitutes awful. a .301 OBP, for example, is awful. i don't care where it ranks among the rest of this sorry team, it's bad. if you want to compare his #'s to others and rank them, how about ranking his OPS among other rf'ers w/ 80+ abs...he'd be 21st. or his OBP...he'd be 24th. so if you're going to say he's average, at least compare him to the rest of the league instead of his terrible teammates. i do agree w/ you that aramis and pierre have been awful. I guess I just want to hear people rip the other players just as much as Jones. It seems like some people don't like Jones as much as other players and they place more blame on him because of it, which isn't fair to Jacque. hard to feel sorry for a guy who has been doubled off 2nd base three times in two weeks. sorry. plus, i think everyone has been getting ripped lately. pierre is hurting the cubs worse than jones, and he gets plenty of grief on the board. aramis is given a bit of slack because of what he's done in the past, but i have a feeling that if he continues to suck, that will change.
  21. cedeno is 1) in his first full season 2) making 1/10th of the money jones is 3) a middle infielder, while jones is a corner OFer. see 1 and 2 from above. see 3 from above.

  23. And I'm trying to say that more people than just Jones should be blamed. I agree that Jones isn't free from blame, but it seems like he is used as a scapegoat more than anybody else. At first it was his hitting. But then he started to hit and people moved on to something else. The guy had something thrown at him today. Is that really justified? No. A lot of people look at his contract (which isn't his fault) and don't give him a chance to play. I don't mind placing some blame on Jacque but blame other people also. I brought this up in another thread, but Aramis deserves more blame than Jones does right now as does Pierre. The pitching staff hasn't exactly been up to par either. yeah, because tons of people in this thread have been saying that throwing stuff at jones is justified. come on. and who hasn't given him a chance to play? nobody here is stopping him. what does that even mean? jones deserves the blame he's gotten b/c he's been awful. he's sucked offensively, defensively, and on the bases. just b/c everyone else has sucked too doesn't mean jones gets a free pass.
