Besides general business ethics, yes, the commissioner's office would most definitely get involved. Maddux to the Dodgers with everyone knowing that if Maddux intends to suit up next season at all it will be as a Cub is more likely. if maddux comes back to the cubs in '07 i'm going to be oh so disappointed.
it has been absolutely miserable this week in des moines...heat indexes were up in the 110-120 range for parts of iowa, and power was out where i live monday night. probably had something to do w/ it.
NO!!!! Why involve the Padres?? And Howry for Vazquez or Garcia I would not do. I would demand Broadway and Fields in return for Howry. I have a hard time believing the Sox would give up their two top prospects for a middle reliever. did you see what the nats got for two average middle relievers?
That's one of the problems of moving Jones to center. There's no reason he should be starting against lefties and he'd need a platoon partner. Murton wouldn't be able to be that guy. but somebody would. they wouldn't need to be that good if you have two solid corner guys. heck, if you have a stud at each corner, i can live w/ jones' flailing hopelessly at lefties.
hill gives up a homer in the 8th to tie it. i can't decide whether he should be demoted, released, or killed. 8 ip, 7 h, 3 er, 1 bb, 14 k's only 100 pitches, which is pretty damn impressive. edit: hill being ph for.
novoa's young and unproven...yet he somehow has made it into dusty's good graces. there's never been any talk about demoting him, and he's been terrible.
i don't know which is better...the 'he just got here' line or basically saying that playing theriot will cause the team to lose. the 'he just got here' line makes it seem like he needs a few days off to unpack his suitcase, get his haircut, get used to his new pants, etc. so that's pretty good. but then you have the 'we still have to win' crap, which is so idiotic it's comical because a) the cubs won today (despite theriot's efforts to sabotage the win with his stupid double and triple) and b) the cubs haven't exactly been piling up the wins by playing the non-kids.
and alamo's one closer blows a save. schilling's start + haren's start gets me back in it. i have bush going tomorrow, but it should be a close one. i vote to combine this week w/ the next one, by the way.
