  1. lame pearl jam reference by bob. can't hold it against him, i guess...at least he knows who they are.
  2. I'm not attempting to make an argument against CLee. But, I don't like him if you are curious. That dirty play on Walker last year was uncalled for. I'd like to see a line up that featured .350+ OBP potential at every position. Not just potential, but rather likely. Instead of ignoring OBP completely like the front office has done for years now, I don't want a little emphasis on OBP. I want a lot. A lot is what it is going to take to turn this offense around. but that's not gonna happen, so the best we can hope for is a guy w/ a high SLG. big SLG and mediocre OBP is as good as it's gonna get.
  3. dunn doesn't hit sac flies. seriously though, i'd be fine w/ lee just like i'd be fine w/ soriano. i'm aware that neither post a very good OBP, but i've come to grips w/ the fact that the cubs don't care about walks. since they're not going to get a high-OBP guy, i'm just hoping for a good SLG...as opposed to a guy w/ bad OBP and SLG (i'm looking at you, juan pierre).
  4. i'd have rather they tied it through stolen bases, sac bunts, and defense, but i guess extra base hits and homeruns will have to do.
  5. worth every penny. oh, and rooks just continue to kill the team.
  6. Somewhat are - Cedeno couldn't get a bunt down to move Jones to third. jones probably would have held up had cedeno got the bunt down anyway.
  7. dempster's not very good, but it's foolish to take the job away from him. oh, what's that, you say? change this team's name to the chicago knee jerk reactions.
  8. don't worry, the cubs will snap out of it tomorrow against bush, who is starting for me.
  9. baker will be all over cedeno's error.
  10. A couple reasons: A) Williamson needs to come up in order to show he's healthy and trade him, for that they needed space. B) Aardsma hasn't been pitching all that well. In June he has a 4+ ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 5.91 k/9, 7/4 K/BB ratio. He's pretty much interchangable with Novoa. who is terrible. how he sticks on the roster at wuertz's expense is beyond me.
  11. damn, randa missed a grand slam by about a foot. oh well, i had already assumed a shutout from buehrle, so anything less than that is good.
  12. well, the spot on my injured reserve that opened up when patterson came back didn't stay open for long. cano to the DL...i picked up burke to take his spot. also excited to hear that myers is taking 2 1/2 weeks off to get his life in order after he beat the [expletive] out of his wife. classy guy.
  13. exactly. are you freaking kidding me?
  14. at the very least, hill has succeeded in rebuilding his trade value to at least the level it was last season (if not higher). you'd think teams would be calling.
  15. brewers
  16. at this point, i'm not getting my hopes up too high for pie in cf next year. if i had to bet who would put up better big league numbers in '07 b/w pie and epatt, i'd go w/ patterson. that being said, i'd probably try and convince walker to stay on for one more year (giving epatt a year in AAA). move jones to cf, sign carlos lee, and trade the farm (including pie) for abreu. but that's another thread...congrats to eric! :D
  17. the sanitizers beat nsbb last year too...when it counted. :D
  18. wow, that's a lot of incorrect statements in a really small space. Well i'm pretty sure that's sarcasm on mg's part, esp. considering he's calling for Hill in the '07 rotation. i would hope so. :D
  19. bad breaks. and pagan's still out.
  20. boy, the kids just killed the cubs again tonight.
  21. I pretty much agree. I am not going to work myself into a lather over this anymore. It was a good sign that Prior that was in low 90s all night, and topped out at 96 (I think), only b/c it increases his trade value. That's really all I care about at this point....and what the Bulls do on Wed. night. Trading Prior would be downright silly. As much as I love Prior, where would we be right now if we had pulled the trigger on the Miguek Tejada trade? We'd be a better team at this point, simply because Prior hasn't contributed much at all to this season. On the other hand, I'm not sure we'd be over 500. Had Hendry traded Prior for Tejada, he likely would have moved Cedeno to second and dumped Walker for peanuts. So, Tejada's production would be in the place of Walker rather than Cedeno. the cubs wouldn't be anywhere near .500 if you simply subbed tejada for walker. not even close. It doesn't mean they shouldn't have made the trade though. I'm not sure that it was ever on the table, but if it was, it's possible it could turn out to be a Lou Brock type thing. the prior-tejada situation couldn't be any more different than the lou brock trade.
  22. wow, that's a lot of incorrect statements in a really small space.
  23. hill's last six starts: 40 ip, 22 h, 6 bb, 5 er, 54 k's. whip of .70, era of 1.12, 12.15 k/9. and for those discounting hill based on his poor big league numbers or his age, take a gander at the guy shutting the cubs down for the 20th time tonight -- chris capuano. his first 100+ big league innings were terrible, and he didn't have much success until last year, when he was 27.
  24. through 7 for hill... 7 ip, 0 r, 1 h, 2 bb, 8 k's only threw one ball in the 7th. something like 97 pitches for hill, 67 or so strikes.
