the $2 mil owed to samardzija and the $20 mil owed to dice-k seem like a good financial match. -
you cannot make midweek lineup changes unless there is an injury. you cannot put the new guy in your starting lineup unless he is replacing someone that is hurt.

i mean, i guess you could pick someone up to replace the guy you were dropping if you weren't putting the new guy in your lineup.

Perhaps I just have a different idea of what's fun than you do. To me, building a team that will be very strong for years to come is more fun than eking out a 9th place finish in a 16 team league. good luck doing that solely with minor leaguers. i mean, a few teams have tried doing that before and it helped me win a bunch of championships, so go crazy i guess. the less competition the better.

during a normal week a major league team plays 6 (occasionally 7) games per week. and we get 7 starts during those weeks. looks to me like most major league teams will play 7 games during the extended week 1. i think 8 starts seems about right.

Some other team might be willing to see if he reaches his potential, while the Cubs have plenty of young pitchers with more potential and smaller contracts. every team has those. such a big deal is made about his NTC, but nobody wants to trade for him and his contract. NOBODY. he has zero trade value.

can't complain about all the exciting finishes, but man, there have been some dumb plays/bad officiating this tourney. texas would have never been in the position to get called for 5 seconds if that guy doesn't call a pointless timeout with 12 seconds left up 2 and no one really around him.

so it looks like the season starts on 3/31, which is a thursday. and then a bunch more games the rest of the weekend. is week 1 going to be a big long super week?

i'll be at fitch/hohokam most of the morning/afternoon tomorrow. so unless my turn comes up before i leave in the morning, i probably won't make my pick (i think i'm the 14th pick) until i get back to the hotel at 5 pm or so AZ time.
