  1. Even though they got an open shot, they should have either dumped it into Brand or let Miller create.
  2. Please get a stop. Please get a stop. Please get a stop.
  3. That hurt. Good call, though.
  4. As I post that he commits a foul to allow a 3 pt play (pending the FT)
  5. This all works if you ignore the two draft picks on the table, and the cost we are paying for Gregg (and that he probably wouldn't have gotten $10 million in arbitration). I'm not ignoring the picks. I simply realize that the upside of the picks is overshadowed by the downside of leaving other more pressing needs unaddressed because you had no money left after Wood accepted arb. There are quite a few ways to go in the unlikely event Wood accepts arbitration. And as I just pointed out above, Hendry's trying his darndest to go all of those ways already. Then how did he get himself into such a bad situation? Tapped out before the offseason even started? It seems unlikely, but if it's true, then it's even more damning, because I don't recall a sudden payroll decrease or anything like that. who wants to take this one?
  6. If Hendry doesn't have a contingency plan to come up with $5 million in an unlikely scenario at this point in the offseason, he is much worse at his job than almost anyone on here suspects. that is ridiculous, stop being so emotional i hope kerry wood signs a four-year deal with the cardinals and strikes out the side against the cubs for the save in the seventh game of the nlcs four consecutive years, just so i can see jim hendry cry at least we got out of the first round finally!
  7. This all works if you ignore the two draft picks on the table, and the cost we are paying for Gregg (and that he probably wouldn't have gotten $10 million in arbitration). You are ignoring the fact that Wood could have accepted. The difference between Wood and Gregg could be about $5M and that $5M may be needed to add Peavy and/or a RF. Now I know that's a lot of could haves, but who knows? I'm certain that Hendry has a better idea than you do.
  8. I got 2 tickets on ebay for sale to the NY Knicks game. The item number is 260323328291. It ends sometime tomorrow. I'm just looking to make back part of what I spent (they were the cheap $10 tickets). Stupid finals are preventing me from seeing Rose light up Duhon. Damnit!
  9. Well it has nothing to do with whether or not someone else signs him. If Kerry would have accepted arbitration he would get that money. I think I would have offered KW arbi and then made it clear to him that we did not want him to accept. I think Kerry has enough pride to not want to come back to somewhere he clearly isn't wanted (by the GM at least). If he did accept it then trade Gregg and make a few other minor moves to recoup the 8M. Maybe Hendry already has a plan to do those minor moves and use that money to get Peavy and/or a RF. If that's the case, then I understand not risking offering arbitration to Wood. I don't like it, but I understand it.
  10. So do any of these groups give a [expletive] about the Cubs winning a WS?
  11. That's gotta be one of the best blocks I've ever seen. I love Miller's reaction too. He was in disbelief that Rose caught up to him and made the block.
  12. I'm loving seeing the jets and the patriots get absolutely spanked. Both at home too. The Phins still got some playoff hope.
  13. And the Phins hold on and my heart can relax.
  14. where's rose? gray is doin work.
  15. Bad, bad day. Fins lose. Long and Camarillo hurt. Jets win. Ravens win. Bills win. At least the Bears won and Ted Ginn looks like the real deal.
  16. “Rose is good. Oh man," said Jackson. "For a young guy at that age, a rookie to come in here and take over that game like that, regardless of who he’s playing, that’s real impressive. He didn’t buckle under pressure. He stayed solid. I’m definitely a Derrick Rose fan now. I will have one of his jersey’s up in my house.” To have an opposing player say that about you just after you beat him in your 13th professional game says a whole lot.
  17. Would have rather seen that money (or part of that money) given to Wood. I still think Demp will be pretty good for us, though.
  18. Anyone have thoughts on why Towers is talking so publicly about this? Seems there is no good reason to rule out teams in the mix to drive up the price tag. Is this to appease SD fans on Peavy's pressure for a bad return on the trade? I realize that the GM's certainly have an inside relationship that is only selectively revealed to the public, but this one seems a bit off. Perhaps because it was so obvious to everybody involved that there was no need to invent fake competition for the bidding. Hendry certainly has a reputation for making fair deals, he doesn't look to screw teams over. So, maybe he's putting the ball in Hendry's court to come up with a reasonable offer for Peavy. Or he's making it difficult for Chicago to make that offer any higher, and he's just trying to get Peavy to agree to go somewhere else. It's probably to put pressure on Atlanta to up their offer. The scary part of these Dempster rumors is that Atlanta had Dempster on their radar. If the Cubs sign Dempster, Atlanta could up their offer, especially considering some of the other FA pitchers Atlanta is looking at are likely to sign elsewhere. If I'm Towers, I prefer the packages Atlanta can put together over just about anything the Cubs would reasonably offer. I'd prefer Pie and Vitters over Escobar and that bucket of Howry ATL was offering. Not to mention that I'd also really want Marshall if I'm SD. Marshall, Pie, Vitters is more than enough IMO.
  19. hopefully he gave us a nice discount (if we're the team he's signing with). if it's not too bad, then im for it. it doesn't completely eliminate us from the peavy trade talks, but it also doesn't handcuff us if a deal can't be made. i'm not sure the peavy deal can get done without including pie, vitters, marshall, and more, and honestly i'm not sure if i wanna give up all that when we're gonna need some pieces to still trade for an impact bat.
