  1. No. Tejada is a late first/early second round pick. If you want a closer for him, you should be able to get a top closer like Rivera or Lidge. I typically don't like to pay too much for closers because they don't pitch enough innings to make as huge of an impact as a top starter. You can find saves in a 12 team league somewhere. I would probably try to trade Tejada for somebody like Roy Oswalt, Chris Carpenter, Roy Halladay, Carlos Zambrano, or Rich Harden. You should be able to get that. I would look and see which teams have weak shortstops (there should be about 3 or 4) and target those teams as trading partners. I wouldn't settle for anything worse than the above mentioned guys. But if you decide to go closer instead of starter, go with Rivera or Lidge.
  2. Garland for about half the price of Lackey isn't bad. He will probably win 15+ games and have a sub 4.00 ERA.
  3. I would DEFINITELY trade Tejada or Furcal for a pitcher.
  4. Gavin Floyd, as great as he has pitched this spring, is also expected to start the year in the minors.

Very frustrating loss And I want nothing to do with Morrison.
  6. You do have a bonfide ace. His name is Rich Harden. Mark Buehrle is also pretty close and Schilling could be as well. You got a pretty good team in my opinion. Should be a top team.
  7. I just traded Lidge for Jeff Kent. Now I'm very happy with my offense. I'm very strong in every category except steals. There's 13 offensive categories though, so I'm not worried about being weak in only one of them. Now I'm pretty much going to punt saves. Betancourt is a FA so I'm probably going to pick him up and drop Orvella. I really want Shields, but someone took him in the 11th round. I could probably get him straight up for Benitez, but I would prefer to trade Benitez with one of my other SP to upgrade to a better SP. Any opinion on what I should do with Benitez/Orvella/Betancourt?
  8. Interesting leauge. I love those third basemen! You only have 4 Cubs and the only reach is Cedeno. So I wouldnt say you have too many.
  9. Agreed. Brand for Chandler might be the worst Chicago trade of my lifetime. Worse than Artest, Brad Miller, and company for Jalen Rose?
  10. C M. Lieberthal 1B N. Johnson 2B M. Giles 3B M. Ensberg SS J. Peralta IF T. Walker LF M. Holliday CF C. Sullivan RF W. Peña Util F. Thomas BN C. Patterson BN M. LeCroy BN F. Catalanotto BN S. i dont want Paul Davis. I am firmly on the Tyrus Thomas bandwgn. and I believe we can give Detroit a ton more of a scare than Philly. I would love to see another playoff berth for this team...the playoff experience that the guys can get this year can be instrumental in the future. He's a freshman. Is he supposed to come out? That game he had against Texas was VERY impressive. Also, Aldridge sucked against LSU. I havent seen him enough this year, but judging by that game, I dont want him on the Bulls. I wouldn't judge LaMarcus by one game. Yeah i realized that and thats why i said I havent seen him enough. I just didn't like his approach. He seemed very passive and afraid to take it inside. I'm sure this game was an abberation. I was just stating that he looked horrible in that game. He did look pretty good against W. Virginia though. A few nice moves inside.

  13. It is a dynasty league...meaning you keep ALL your players from year to year. I would be getting Kevin Mench and Jeremey Bonderman for Mark Buehrle and Rafael Soriano. I'm thinking about doing it because I need another OF and Mench is decent and is still pretty young (I think 28 or so) and Bonderman has the potential to be just as good or better than Buehrle and he's only 24. So what do you guys think?
  14. Thanks. I was planning on dumping Hudson, but there's really not anyone jumping out in my mind to pick up. Do you think I would be better off trading Lidge for a good bat or good starting pitcher and either punting saves or depending on Benitez/Orvella? Or do you think I'm better off staying put?
  15. Thanks for the input. I really don't understand why he made it weekly changes and then made that few positions for pitching and then included holds. Doesn't make any sense to me. I think the best approach would be to punt holds and/or saves. Not sure yet though.
  16. Okay, i wasn't able to make the draft so my friend had to draft for me. He did alright i guess. But this is a league for money so I want to make it in the top 6. It's a 16 team league and here are the categories: R, H, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, TB, E, OPS, IP, W, CG, SV, ER, K, HLD, ERA, K/BB No idea why he has errors in there. I think it's quite ridiculous for a fantasy team, but nonetheless, here's my team: C-Victor Martinez 1B-Justin Morneau 2B-Ryan Freel SS-Edgar Renteria 3B-Aramis Ramirez OF-Pat Burrell OF-Jason Lane OF-Moises Alou Util-Travis Hafner Bench-Brad Wilkerson Bench-Orlando Hudson SP-Johan Santana SP-Joe Blanton RP-Brad Lidge P-Armando Benitez P-Derek Lowe P-Scott Eyre Bench-Matt Clement Bench-Jarrod Washburn Bench-Chad Orvella Its a weekly changes league. I've never done a league that doesnt have daily changes so any advice on that department would be good. For instance, how many closers/middle relievers should I start? I was thinking of punting holds or punting saves (trading Lidge and Benitez) or punting both. There's a ton of categories and I think trading Lidge and Benitez for another SP or hitter would be beneficial. Anyone have any ideas though? I'm pretty weak, obviously, at 1b, 2b, ss (kind of), of, and SP. I think Morneau and Wilkerson can do the job for me at 1st base. I know its not a stud team, but for a 16 team league, it might be good enough if I can make some changes. Ray Durham is a FA so I was thinking of picking him up instead of Orlando Hudson. Not sure though. So what do you guys think I should do to improve this team? And any advice about the weekly changes would be helpful.
  17. Sorta weird to have them every 3 years, oh well. I believe its going to be every 4 years after 2009. Could be wrong though.
  18. I'm not really sure. Obviously if its only a level 2, it would seem to make sense that his chances of completely tearing it would be greater than someone without any injury. Also recovery time may refer to the general person's recover time until they can use the muscle again without pain or something. However, throwing 90 MPH fastballs repeatedly is a whole different story.
  19. Well a sprain is irrelevant to the conversation, as that deals with ligaments and not muscles. They said it was a "moderate strain". I've only taken a few 200 level anatomy and physiology classes so I'm no where near qualified enough to assess exactly what the means. From my knowledge, however, a strain is typically when muscle fibers are torn. It can also refer to just an overstretching/overworking of the muslce. So saying its a moderate strain, to me, means that he probably partially tore the muslce, meaning that he tore some of the muscle fibers. If you could find something about the difference between calling something a strained muscle as opposed to a torn muscle, that would be helpful. A pulled muscle is called a muscle strain. (Here’s a little known fact: a wrenched ligament is always called a sprain, whereas a torn muscle is always called a strain.) Although there may be other factors that make you vulnerable, the immediate cause of every muscle strain is traumatic stretching and tearing of the tissue, often due to the force of your own muscular contraction. The more the muscle is torn, the worse the strain from that I gather they are the same thing. I am pretty confused though :) After doing some reading, it seems like first degree and second degree strains are partial torn muscles, where as a third degree is a complete tear of the muscle. Also, a first degree muscle strain is usually just refered to as a pulled muscle. So a moderate strain is a partial tear.

  21. That is true and it is pure speculation that he actually tore the muscle. However, if he really did tear it, calling it a "moderate strain" is not incorrect. It sounds better than saying he tore it, but it can mean the same thing. Right its just a different way to not say tear, which would stike fear into the fans. Very possible. In either case, the word tear doesn't necessarily mean there is a serious problem. Weight lifters "tear" their muscles, everytime they workout inorder to make them larger. But you would not say the weight lifters tear their muscles. Some muscle fibers tear when lifting weights, but the muscle, as a whole, does not.

It sounds better than saying he tore it, but it can mean the same thing. Right its just a different way to not say tear, which would stike fear into the fans. Maybe, maybe not. It can just be an overstretching of the muscle causing soreness. That's what im hoping, but based on the history of the Cubs trying to hide injuries or make them sound less serious than they actually are, an actual tear is VERY possible.
  23. Clemens sucks. He only had 13 wins last season. Mike Maroth had 14. He's better.

  25. I believe a strain isn't exactly a tear of the muscle. It can just be an overstretching of the muscle, without an actual tear. However, a strain can also be used to describe a tear. Subscapularis, as someone else pointed out, is indeed part of the "roator cuff" muscles. Subscapularis is the muscle on the anterior side of the scapula. So pretty much it all depends on what they consider a "moderate strain". My guess, not that it means much, is that he partially tore his subscapularis muscle.
