  1. This actually got me thinking...why is it that you never see marginal major league starters suffer major injuries? You do. You just don't care about it.
  2. Finally someone is being rational!
  3. I'm hoping Lee withdraws from the WBC and makes sure he's healthy for the 2006 MLB season. With Lee gone and Mark Teixiera at 1B... THe WBC is over man! Though it's worth it.. Is it? I don't really think it is but since the Olympics won't take baseball we have to some world tournament apparently. An injury for Lee in some 1 month alternate ST is worth an entire Cubs season? And a play like that could never happen in a regular ST game, could it?
  4. I disagree with your assessment of the pitching. In a 16 team league, that's a pretty good rotation. Coco Crisp and Mark Loretta in front of Manny this year will make Manny an RBI machine once again. I agree with you BBB. Hudson, Beckett, Lackey, and Blanton should be pretty solid. If Cain has a rookie year like I expect him to have, that will be a very nice pick there too. Oliver Perez could turn out to be huge as well if he reverts back to his 2004 form. Eaton...ehh
  5. Well having only one closer in a shallow league is guaranting him to have no chance in saves. You either have to pick up another closer or two or just punt the category and use Wagner as trade bait. I would first try to package Livan with someone to upgrade your offense but I don't think you'll get much for Livan. I also think adding one more good offense hitter will make you very good. I don't believe you need a "top tier power hitter" although I think you have one in Ryan Howard. When you are getting solid power numbers across the board you should be alright. You have 4 of the top 40 or so homerun hitters (Burrell, Lee, Wright, Tejada) and that isn't including Howard, who will probably be in the top 20 or so at least.
  6. Maybe Dunn, Matsui, Sizemore, Beltran, Berkman, Hafner. You can probably find a team that really wants another good closer and won't mind downgrading a little bit on offense to get that closer. I don't know your categories so I can't really tell you who is best to go after, but I'm a big fan of Dunn, Berkman, and Hafner in leagues that count OPS.
  7. Yeah, he had an OPS above 1.000 if I remember correctly.
  8. Okay, its maybe a little optimistic. But he did hit 20 last year. Maybe 15 is more likely.
  9. Hmm...how does he not have enough power? Pudge should hit about 15 which isn't horrible for a catcher. Howard had 22 homers in 312 ABs so he could hit anywhere from 35-45 in my opinion this year. 15 homers or so out of Giles from second base isn't terrible. Tejada will probably lead all shortstops in homers once again with 25-30. David Wright should hit around 30 homers this year. I don't really like his outfield all that much but Burrell and Lee should hit about 30 homers a piece. I think he needs to improve on Winn, Tavares and Ibanez, but Ibanez and Winn will hit about 20 each. So overall I'd say his power is decent. Not great but I dont see it being a problem for him. I completely agree with you on Livan. I'd probably try to package him with Ibanez or Winn and try to upgrade to a better outfielder. I'd also consider punting saves if I were you and trading Wagner for a big bat. Having Wagner alone as your only closer won't really win you anything in the saves category in a 10 team league.
  10. For a 10 team league that's just okay. Your infield is pretty set, but your outfield/utility hitters could use a little upgrade. Your starting pitching is pretty good. You only have one closer so you probably won't be winning saves (its a 10 team league so each team should have 2 or 3 closers). Overall, it's decent, but nothing spectacular for a 10 team league. Definitely able to win with that team if you catch some breaks and make the right moves.
  11. I've never done a roto league only head to head. I'd imagine the strategy is pretty similar though. I like to go with stud hitters the first 3 rounds before even touching a pitcher (unless something crazy happens like Santana falls deep into the first round). Then I like to make sure I secure 3 very good starting pitchers. I put more emphasis on position scarcity than a lot of people do (for instance, I would rather have Chase Utley on my team than Aramis Ramirez). You also have to look at tiers. Its good to divide each position into tiers and if theres a lot of guys left in a tier at a certain position than chose from a position where there is maybe only one or two guys left before a big drop off. There's a lot to it, i hope something I said in there will be useful to you. Good luck!

    Closers

Yes, I agree but saves are a category. I have two strategies on saves. I either get guys who may not have the best secondary numbers (ERA in the low 4s and a WHIP around 1.3) but not horrible numbers (hardly ever does a guy with an ERA around 5 stay in the closer role). I don't like drafting closers high because even the great ones really only help you A LOT in one category. Yes, there are freaks like K-Rod and Gagne (of a few years ago) and Lidge who can get you a ton of K's (as much as a lot of good SP) and also help out your ERA and WHIP, but the majority of them just don't pitch enough innings to help you out enough to warrant a high selection. In some leagues I've even decided to punt saves and just use the picks on players that will help me more and then just pay attention throughout the season for when setup men are thrusted into the closer role and take a chance that they succeed.
  13. Thats really not all that bad of a trade compared to some of the crap I've gotten and trades I've actually seen accepted.
  14. Just skip the 4th quarter. So much different than last year when it was skip the first 3 and watch the Ben Gorden show in the 4th...
  15. I gotcha, makes sense.
  16. Why don't you allow Seth to hook you up?
  17. The tickets are in PDF format, and print on a regular piece of paper. THey take up th whole paper. At least thats how they were last year. I know -- I was just wondering, if for souvenir purposes, I could trade in the printed at home tickets for normal tickets. I believe if you go to Wrigley they could print them out for you. last year i had a few tickets that were supposed to be mailed and some will called. When I went to pick up the Will Called tickets the lady asked if I wanted all of them (meaning the ones that were supposed to be mailed). So i'm sure they could do it.
  18. They are the seats that are right under the roof in the lower deck. They are actually really good seats. My uncle has season seats like about 7-10 rows up and directly behind home plate and they are awesome. You're also protected from rain and in the summer from the heat of the sun.
  19. Everyone's afraid to give me your credit card # or something? I love a block from the stadium (Grace and Clifton), you can come kick my ass if you get weird charges... Yeah i dont really understand why people who are complaining about not getting tickets aren't just going through you. I got the two main games I wanted so I'm good. I don't want to spend too much so maybe it's a good thing I'm not getting in anymore.
  20. Finally got through for my second time and got 6 bleacher tickets to the July night game against the Cards.
  21. This feels like last night when I couldn't get into Juniors cuz im not 21 and the bouncer says to me, "Yeah I'm sorry, but the chicken wings are sooooo good!".
  22. Damn I wanna get in and get 6 bleacher seats for the june 2nd game! GRRR
  23. Saturday White Sox...luckily i got my bleacher seats for that game :P
