Pads: no Peavy, Young Rox:no Hawpe, Holliday, Tulo Dodgers: no Jones, Furcal Braves: no Smoltz, Jones, at least for a few games. Rays will likely be without someone due to the Red Sox battle royal. The Baseball Gods seem to want this to be the year. The question is, do the Cubs?

Penny hasnt won since May 2, and the Dodgers have only won 1 of those games, so I guess we have that going for us.

If the "dream team" wants to keep hope alive, they're going to have to go after some pitching. The offense will eventually do its job consistantly, but the pitching staff, not so great. -
Hoffpauir is not eligible to come up until Friday. which is when interleague starts, and that probably exactly what will happen.

The Difference between the '08 Cubs and the '07 Brewers, and '07 Reds is that none of them were expected to do anything and those stretches proved to be flukes, where as the '08 Cubs have been labeled one of the best teams in the NL since pre season. Hopefully the '08 Cards can join the '07 Reds and Brewers. I have no clue what you just said there. '07 Reds/Brewers=Not much expected of them, got hot, nothing became of it '08 Cubs=doing what they're expected to do. More likely to stay hot '08 Cards=not expected to do much. currently hot. hopefully, less likely to stay hot

I honestly think Lee is on the down-side of his career. He will be 33 in September and it isn't just his offense that has taken a hit this year. He is still an above average defensive player, but he is making a lot more errors than he has in the past. doesnt go from being the offensive star of the team hitting .330 with an OPS over 1.000 to a .220 hitter all of the sudden. Umm, 2005 was 3 years ago. Yeah, but earlier this season was a month ago. Yeah, because no player in MLB history has ever started off the season red hot and then come back to earth. coming back to earth and being on the downside of ones career are completely different things.

Umm, 2005 was 3 years ago. Yeah, but earlier this season was a month ago. You have to remember, traditionally, Lee has been a .280/.400/.450 30 HR type of player. 2005 was an oddity for him.

Funny thing about the 2007 Brewers...they built up their record on a heavy home schedule with lots of sub .500 teams. Wonder if a similar thing will happen to this years Cubs if they prove that they can't win on the road consistantly like they have so far. as they were sayin last night, the majority of the NL has been having road troubles, and the Cubs actually have the 3rd best road record in the NL. As for the '07 Brewers vs. the '08 Cubs, the Brewers had early hot streaks from Hardy, Hall, Weeks, and Estrada, but in the end, they fell off and Braun, Fielder, and Hart were the only ons who could out the bat on the ball. We have a lot of established stars on this team. We should be OK in the long run.

Im not going to lie, while Id rather the Cards lose, I dont mind if they want to keep the Astros downword spiral going strong. I do believe they will com down to Earth, but it may not be the massive collapse that we're expecting. They may be on our tail for the rest of the season, and the Brewers may also get hot and then stabalize. Running away with the division would be nice, but it might not be in the cards(unintentional pun). If the Cubs want to make it happen, the baseball Gods are going to make them work for it.

Now that the offense is clicking, watch out for these guys. I want to say it wont last, and this team isnt built to be a contender, but I thought the same thing all through 2005. I just hope we're ready for them when they come to Wrigley in 2 weeks.

Thats one of the dumbest things Ive heard in a while, and Ive been known to say some dumb things. A player "on the down side of his career" doesnt go from being the offensive star of the team hitting .330 with an OPS over 1.000 to a .220 hitter all of the sudden. A player in a slump, or a player with an injury he doesnt want to tell anyone about does.

How a few days and a change of scenery changes everything. a few days ago, The Cubs and Brewers were the hottest teams in baseball, while the Dodgers and Rockies were struggling to do anything. Still, with some guy named Greg Reynolds whose 0-3 and an ERA pushing 6 on the mound for the Rockies, that games far from over, especially with the all mighty Russell Branyan on a tear.

Im not too worried about the long run, as were clearly the best overall team in the division, but I get the sick feeling were in for an ugly stretch.

D Lee was not the story today. The story was Z meltling down like he hasnt in a long time.

So now we rely on Marquis to avoid our first 3 game losing streak. At least we go back to Wrigley monday. And we all know the Brewers and Cards will be winning this evening.

Yep, Lowe had thrown 5 of the first 6 pitches out of the zone and left one up for the first hit. With a LH hitter at the plate, who Lowe has bad splits against. He was as hittable right there for Fontenot as he will probably be all day. So Fontenot would have grounded out, Johnson could have hit the same weak grounder with a guy on 2nd, and Z would have struck out? I'll happily take the run and hope Z continues his domination of Dodger stadium.
