  1. You know the Phillies wont beat the Cards in the NLCS. Where do the Cubs fit into all this? Hopefully beating the White Sox in the WS, but wouldnt it be the ultimate kick in the sack by the Baseball Gods if there were to be a White Sox/Cards WS in the 100th year since the last Cubs championship? The year that was suppoed to be "The Year"?
  2. I dont know if anyone really wants the most over hyped 5th round pick in history anymore. We might have to replace him with Veal.
  3. You know the Phillies wont beat the Cards in the NLCS.
  4. Looks like Teixera is the only one of there guys whose had much of a look at Lilly, and he hasnt faired out so well. On the other hand, Alfunso, Adolpho or whatever you want to call him and Aramis have owned Glavine.
  5. Why would we give up Colvin for a guy we dont really need? If we could get a top of the line starter, than go all out, but Betencort really isnt any better than what we have.
  6. I wouldnt be opposed to mortgaging the farm system for someone like CC, although I dont trust Harden to stay healthy if they planned on signing him to a long term deal. 5 years with a 1-2 Zambrano-Sabathia combo would be very fun to watch, dont you think? The question is, what do we have that theyd want? Grady Sizemore has the center field porition locked up, so Felix and Colvin wont be that appealing to them. Wed have to throw them some arms, maybe Veal, Ceda, also Hill/Marshall if they still have any value. Even at age 21 or 22, I dont know if Pawelek is still of any value. Cedeno could be mildly appealing to them, maybe even Hoffpauir if he can put together some good numbers if given the chance in the bigs.
  7. This just in: The White Sox have forgotten how to lose.
  8. Bingo. When Bay or Lee homers off us, it sucks, but were expecting it, but when someone like Makowiak or Miles keeps picking up bloops singles and RBI against us, its more frusterating.
  9. During the Cubs 9 game streak, I left my Cubs hat in the rally position next to the TV the entire time, in the same spot I left it when we beat Saito in that game. When we were cleaning the house a few days later, and my wife tried to move it, I made a Jim Edmondsesque move to stop her. Did that have any bearing on the games? probably not. Does mentioning streaks or injuries have any effect on whether or not that will happen? Probably not, but why tempt fate if you dont have to.
  10. I had this kind of discussion with someone in another thread recently. There are "Cub Killers" who have the stats to prove it, and guys like Makowiak, Ojeda, Bill Hall, Demon Troll Aaron Miles etc. who dont have the stats, but just seem to come up with that big hit every time they face us. If Jason Bay, Adam Dunn, and Carlos Lee are rotweilers to us, this other group is like Chiuahas. They're not nealry as dangerous, but they can sure make you want to kick them.
  11. With Bannister and Hoocehever, I wonder if the Royals would consider moving Greinke for the right price.
  12. What about Penny? Yes, hes been putrid for a while now, but will he really keep that up forever?
  13. And do what with him? Hold back Murton and Hoffpauir, who are capable of doing the same as he is just to keep him away from some other team?
  14. Z actually had some help blowing the game yesterday--or I should say lack of help in the field. But you're correct about Marquis, very nice job tonight. Could he be turning the corner? I dont know about turning any corners. Id be willing to accept a few more decent starts before he traditionally becomes completely worthless come July.
  15. Our bullpen as a whole may very well be the best in the game, certainly in the NL, especially if Neal Cotts keeps thinking its 2005 like the rest of his former team.
  16. Probably. From what I've seen, Lou has taken him out when the pitcher and Soriano both bat in the 8th inning. If they don't, he stays in. Good winning road trip by the Cubs. Now let's go take 2 out of 3 from the Braves before the interleague games. With interleague coming, and our opponents doing much better than they're supposed to, were gonne need all 3 of those bad boys.
  17. Yes. yes we do. While Wood may not be the best closer in the game, the 1-2 combination is the best there is.
  18. In bizarro world, Carlos Zambrano falls apart horribly, but Jason Marquis is there to pick up the pieces. In all seriousness, its nice to see a winning road series with little to no production from Lee, Ramirez, and Soto, the keys to our early season success. Needless to say, Id much rather see them produce and not have to bite my nails to the bone.
  19. For the love of GOD, just end this quick, and DONT HIT ANYONE!
  20. ive never seen anyone argue over blatent strike calls as much as Ronny.
