Did you really just try and show the team was slumping over the past 5 games by removing the 3 highest scoring innings from those games? I didn't say they were in a slump, I said they could be slumping, and with a horrible pitcher going today we should be able to tell. I know that was a completely faulty argument, I couldn't find a better way to express my gut feeling (which being a pessimist I should probably never rely on). In the admittedly small 5 game sample size I am referring to the team is hitting .239 .356 .377 .733. The ability to be patient is what separates us from other offenses (because all teams have peaks and valleys) which is why we've been able to have a couple of big innings to mask a potential slump. Just like with the Pirates, Astros, and Marlins series, the offense gets to take 1 day off as long as they dominate the other 2.

It seems haes been at his best since becoming the official #4. I never really bought him as a #2, and he was a solid #3, but as #4, hes the best the NL has. -

I hear the new rule is that if you cant score 10 runs off Josh Fogg its an automatic loss. As long as Zambrano hasnt pulled a Ben Sheets and decided that since theres a new ace in town he doesnt have to win games anymore we'll be OK here.

In a way, its a good thing that every little loss promotes that kind of reaction. It shows that winning is expected, not just a pleasant surprise. a few years ago, wed have been happy not to get blown out and that Dusty didnt shorten anyones career.

Lou should castrate one player. That would send that message that he means business. They way most of em looked during the game, he did that before it started.

Theres usually a lot of anger after a loss, not usually quite this much carnage and civil war. I guess the feeling of being pushed down to an unsurmountable 5 games in first really hit home with some people.

Clearly the only answer is promoting Hoffpauir, cloning him and having him play every position.

What can be said about tonights game. Not a crushing blow, but definitely 2.5 hours of my life down the drain. Lilly didnt deserve the loss, but the Cubs didnt deserve to win. It seems that ever series lately aside from the Braves one we have that 1 game that we just cant put the damn bat on the ball when it counts. The Cubs and Reds had very similar offensive games, the difference being, they were able to cash in when they got RISP. A Cubs/Reds series at Wrigley and no home runs so far. anythig less of a 12-1 win tommorow will be a dissapointment.

Tommorow is Zambrano vs. Fogg, and then The Nationals come to town, so Id say taking 5 is still a huge possibility, even if the offense has already chosen to concede this one.

Looks like this game will be decided by a wild pitch, a lack of communication in the outfield, and of course, a complete lack of offense.
