  1. I still maintain that The Cubs arent the ONLY option. I know Peavy has a full NTC, and not only do they need to move him, but he probably doesnt want to be on such a sinking ship. I bet that while the Cubs are Peavys top choice, Towers probably told him if hed waive his NTC, hed do everything in his power to send him to the Cubs, but if it doesnt work out, he'll need to make a deal with another team. Thats probably what the Thursday deadline was about. Id hate to see him end up with the Brewers, Astros, or Cards.
  2. Due to Hendrys track record, I still have faith that it will happen.
  3. Don't be too confident. Has years of Cubs fandom taught you nothing? Never believe this team is going to do anything--- make the playoffs, acquire a player, win a game-- until it actually happens. Its not even 7:00 there. Hendry is probably just now waking up and noticng hes lying between a show girl and a half eaten rib eye.
  4. So about what time do the festivities begin? Rule 5? Check out for the GMs?
  5. The top two are starters who are probably better than Fontenot. Plus they would never sign to be a backup. Obviously, either of them would start, with Font and Theriot taking turns starting. Most of the others would be as backups, with the possible exceptions of Durham and Punto who would platoon. Ah I took it as these are the possible backups for Fontenot. I would say Grudz is at least a platoon as well and probably a starter if signed. I would never ever ever want to see Craig Counsell bat for the Cubs. I would turn the channel every time he came up to bat. Not just because of his batting stance but also because I know it would result in an out. The thing about Counsell is, while his stats suck, he one of those guys that every time you turn around, he seems to come up with tsome kind of clutch hit. Maybe its just us, or maybe Im just imagining it because Ive seen it happen a handful of times.

Most of the others would be as backups, with the possible exceptions of Durham and Punto who would platoon. OK, same is pretty much true for a lot of these guys. I guess I should have said additional infielder of some sort.
  7. If we do move DeRosa in this deal, I would like to see Font start at second, however, we will need another middle infielder as a back up, as nobody on the current roster can play it, and theres really nobody down on the farm. Heres a list of possibles -Rafeal Furcal-if we land Peavy, and that LH outfielder, theres no way wed be able to afford him -Orlando Hudson-see above -Ray Durham-old, injury prone, but productive -Grudz-aging, but still usefull -Omar Vizquel-at the age of 67, hes still one of the better defenisive short stops in the game, but his once mediocre offensive skills are now putrid at best. -Damian Easley-if hed be cheap, hed be worth a look see -Juan Uribe-the best that can be said about him is that he might be slightly better than Neifi. -Alex Cintron-been there, done that. Maybe it will work this time -Craig Counsell-see Grudz, plus can play all 3 IF spots -David Eckstein-again, oldy but can still play. kind of. -Nick Punto-I didnt even realise he was a FA, but if he was cheap, Id be all over him.
  8. I did. Yankees have been losing patience with Melky, and Cameron just doesnt fit in with the Brewers, who are all of the sudden likely to become a rebuilding team.
  9. Heres the latest rotoworld snip. I know its just a re phrase of what weve been hearing all night, but still
  10. But everyone knew Santana was going somewhere, the question was where. With Peavy its Chi Town or bust.
  11. Yay it's Brian Roberts all over again Randy Johnson here we come? Seriously, screw Johnson. Why does everyone forget that we didnt need a starter to begin with, and we only went after this deal is because Peavy is a special kind of pitcher, and it wasnt an opportunity to pas up. Theres no point going after a consolation prize that nobody wants or needs. Just count your losses and go after a bat. I'm worried about the rotation Why? Johnson would be injured half the time anyway. Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Dempster, Marquis is still the best in the division, maybe the NL. I know that even if Harden goes injury free, they'll keep him in a glass case half the time, and Marshall can sub for him. CC, Lowe, and Burnett are all but spoken for, and aside from Peavy, theres nothing else out there that would be considered an upgrade over what we already have. unless...no...Sheets? Only if we really want to relive the Wood/Prior saga with 2 oft injured aces.

  13. You really need to stop blaming Hendry if he can't pull off a trade because another team is asking too much. Because you would be the first one to bash him if he gets ripped off in a deal. Why would I bash Hendry for making a deal that Ive already expected? Theres nobody who would be invloved in this trade that would surprise me. Maybe if Soto or Marmol were invloved, but they wont be. As for Towers, as of now, hes saying that the Cubs are the only possible destination, but you never know, things could change, especially if Peavy really wants off of a go nowhere team, and teams like the Brewers, Cards, Reds, and Astros would probably be chomping at the bit to go after him, and the have the resources to do it.
  14. I know Hendry theoretically has leverage, but I really hope he doesnt screw this up. After the October let down, we need something big this off season, and an outfield bat that may or may not be an upgrade over what we already have plus an aged, broken down mulleted pitcher arent going to cut it.
  15. Hey, remember the time when everyone thought the Cubs were going to get Jake Peavy?
  16. Ive already told myself that whatever I hear or read tonight, I wont believe any of it until the press conference. Granted, it would be better to stay away from the sources, but we all know that wont be happening.
  17. Are we sure this even comes from a sports writer? I doubt this is the only 3 way going on in Vegas right about now.
  18. because the Marlins' asking price is higher than that Their initial asking price was two good pitching prospects. The DRays disengaged after balking at the initial offer, and no one has jumped in with an appropriate offer. I think they'll lower their demands, but only a little bit, and they'll end up keeping him. Florida is one of those teams that overvalues its players. Remember how they held the line on what they wanted for Pierre? They got three good pitching prospects for him. Maybe Rich Hill and Mark Pawalek are considered good pitching prospects
  19. I wonder if everyones sentiments will change if it comes down to game 7 of the World Series, Cubs @ Cleveland(we all know the AL will win the ASG), top of the 9th and down by a pair of runs.
  20. I wonder whats next for Melly Melvin and the Brew Crew? With CC, and probably Lowe and Burnett out of the picture, they're either left risking it again with Sheets, or signing someone like Oliver Perez who wont begin to fill the voids of CC and Sheets. Their best bet is to move Fielder for a solid pitcher.
  21. Even lowe level guys like Oliver Perez and Jamie Moyer are going to want close to 8-10 mil, so getting Marquis for <5 mil should be a bargain of sorts, especially for teams who arent looking for a long term commitmant and want a guy for 1 year.
  22. So by the sound of things, it's going to happen, the questions are how, when, and with who?
  23. So doea anyoen out there have an idea at this point of what the chances are that this actually happens?
  24. You do realize that we slapped CC around when we faced him dont you? 2.78 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 15/3 K/BB against the Cubs last year Didnt we chase him after like 6 innings both times we faced him?
