  1. Remember when Manny threatened to retire if he didnt get what he though was the right offer? yeah.
  2. While I myself am not quite ready to give up on Kosuke, the thought of trading him for Bedard is quite intriguing. The guy had one bad, injury plagued year, and Id be all about him. Even if Johjima would have been involved as a backup catcher, and they then could have gotten Cedeno in the same deal. As for Washburn, Id just assume take back Traschle or Lieber, but Kosuke, Cedeno, and Olson(asuming the Pie/Olson trade happenes) for Bedard, Johjima, and Heilman doesnt sound half bad. Then, we could have re signed Edmonds for cheap and platooned him with Johnson.
  3. Or we could get Nomar for probably less than what we paid for Neifi Soap Dropping Perez 3 years ago.
  4. With Orlando Cabrera, Nomar, and Hudson out there for cheap, I wouldnt be surprised if we added one of them. I would definitely welcome Nomar back as a super sub. Keep Hoff and let Miles and Gathright battle it out for the last spot. With Hoff, the bench may not be as good as last year, but it could be worse. Hoff and Johnson are pretty nice to have. Gathright would be to if he could get the damn bat on the ball. Miles could potentially give us the same as Theriot. As for Bako, from an offensive standpoint, it's like having a pitcher on the bench. Also, with the lack of middle infield depth, I wonder if Andres Blanco will be given a serious look at ST. It could be the start of the Andy White era.
  5. If Fukudome does what we got him to do, he'd be ideal as a number 2 guy, with Theriot as the leadoff. However, at this point, Im more worried about the number 3 spot, which is supposed to be your overall best hitter. Sorry, D Lee doesnt fit the bill anymore. Im not saying Lees washed up, hed be a great 5 or 6 hitter for any team, but number 3 should be Bradley or Ramirez.
  6. Jesse should indicate Selig himself. IN A STEEL CAGE!
  7. It's no secret that I've been a fan of Hoffpauirs, but my thinking is that if there werent plans for Gathright to be on the opening day roster, he wouldnt have been given a major league contract. As with Hoff, a spot on the opening day roster is his to win or loose. I dont know what they'll do about the backup middle infield situation, but I guess that brisge will be crossed when they get to it.
  8. While we dont have a leadoff man in the traditiional sense of the word, Theriot, Fontenot, or Kosuke at leadoff would be worth it to have Theriot/Font/Fuku Theriot/Font/Fuku Bradley Ramirez Soriano Lee Soto Theriot Font/Fuku Now thats purdy. Of course, it wont happen, and Soriano will be back at leadoff. Soriano Theriot/Font Lee Ramirez Bradley Soto Theriot/Font Fuku Is the more likely opening day lineup.
  9. Before we start taking up a collection to help him feed his family, keep in mind, worse case scenerio is he signs a 1 year deal for more than most people will make in their lives.
  10. Any chance of him being our Josh Hamilton/Carlos Quentin? Of course first, wed have to ignore the fact that theres no room on the roste for him.
  11. Anyone else remember when Jim Palmer attempted a come back after being elected into the HOF? Didnt work out. Neither will Dennis'.
  12. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=435562 Ive never heard of the guy, yet hes quietly made his way onto the teams active roster. Not even non roster invitee, the active roster. Is this a Willie Mays Hayes case in which even they've never heard of him, and they'll move his bed out of the camp in the middle of the night? I guess he'll join Brad Snyder and So Taguchi on the list of guys about as likely as I am to make the team out of Spring Training.
  13. Another thing is that I wouldnt be sholced if Heilman got the spot, and Marshall was given loogy duty simply because Lou, much like the rest of the baseball world doesnt trust Cotts as the only lefty in the pen. As Ive said numerous times, the answer to that is simple. Pick up Joe Beimal. At this point he'll be cheap. Real cheap. Probably around what we're paying Cotts now. Also I hope that the established veteran Vizcaino doesn end up booting Guzman back to AAA simply because he is an established veteran.
  14. After the last few years, the spot should be Marshalls to win or lose. If someone like Heilman or Shark wow Lou in ST, then by all means, they should earn it, but if the all look similar, it should go to Marshall.

  16. Please, Sosa and McGwire saved the game of baseball. They made people start watching again when theyd tired off it and the NBA was rising in poularity andtaking over. Selig has known what was going on for years. Tejada, Juan Gonzalez, Clemens, Ivan Rodriguez, Palmeiro, Giambi, these were some of the defining players of an era. These are the guys responsible for Seligs obscene salary. If they go, he should go. It only right for the captain to go down with the ship.
  17. The problems with that idea being A. Cubs fans will beat them to the tickets B. Once Brewers fans realize that their team will go back to sucking, they'll go back to not caring about them.
  18. If there was any remnance of a bridge left between Sheets and Milwaukee, its offically burned now.
  19. hat's wrong with the unit? i'd have loved him on a one year deal if i knew we weren't get the peavster Not for $8M with incentives. I wouldn't give him that either (althrough he was def. worth that last season), but still..... it's not like Sabean was saving us from some awful player We already have one pitcher in our rotation who we can pretty much guarantee misses significant playing time. Why have another? Because they are good pitchers? So if someone said you could have another Rich Harden (I'm not saying Johnson is Harden, just giving an example), you wouldn't want it because you already have one? Plus even though Johnson would be a health risk, I don't understand how you can pretty much guarantee he's miss significant time, considering he made 30 starts last season and has made less than that only one time in the last 5 seasons. I mean, really, would 20-25 starts of an ERA around 4 on a one year deal be an awful thing? If we had the money we did with the Trib, then sure, but as is now, we really couldnt afford to take a chance on such a thing.

  21. First Howry, then Johnson now Aurillia. Sabeans been our guardian angel this off season.
  22. LOL, it's funny because that is the team that made me fall in love with the Cubs. Looking back at that roster, they shouldn't have been a playoff team. PS: Henry Rodriguez was my favorite player and I used to emulate his stance when I hit. I think that between Woody and Sammy, a lot of Cub fans were born in that ERA.
  23. We did not have a very good team.
  24. A Rod, Griffey, Martinez, and Buhner must have been one hell of a gauntlet for a pitcher to go through.
  25. Yeah, but if it makes you feel any better, whoever we picked would probably still be in Peoria.
