  1. Sheets would have been good, however, Im hearing that Mark Mulder is ready to go and wants to get started soon. Assuming hes willing to sign for just the remainder of this year, Id be all about taking a flier out on him. Otherwise, I dont feel that starting pitching is that much of a concern at this time, and Id just assume wait until the offseason and re open the Peavy talks, or even the wiaver deadline, assuming were able to make such a deal at that point and hes off the DL.
  2. I wouldn't want Polanco at this point. He's not getting on base (.313 OBP) and he's not slugging at all (.397) and he's 33 - meaning he may not rebound. fair enough, but hes a FA next year, and only making 4.6 mil this year, leaving about 2.3 left over so if we could get him for cheap, would you give him a shot? Id just assume go after a new 2B nex season, so for now, Id accept a slight upgrade over what we have now considering if/when someone like Sanchez or Uggla become available, we probably wont be able to afford them.
  3. 2009: $5 million, 2010: $9 million, 2011: $12 million. Is he worth keeping with all those jumps in pay? I suppose one could say Hendry is a fool for spreading the money like that, but that's another story. Thats whe whole point. We have no choice.
  4. Rich, pitching as he's been pitching, against Albert. I'll be bracing for impact. Theres no reason for Albert to see a pitch unless we have at least a 5 run lead, which isnt likely.
  5. From what I hear, Zell isnt the main obstacle for either Ricketts or Utay, its the bankruptcy court and the MLB owners. they might not like that both bids are relying on a lot of borrowed money and not enough upfront. While Utays bid is larger, Ricketts involves more money upfront. Now If Ricketts and Utay werre serious about putting this team on top, theyd buy the team together and pump a load of money into it.
  6. The weather report calls for 50-60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, all day and all night, on until early saturday so we'll see what happens. Im guessing no game. Would they have back to back double headers saturday and sunday?
  7. Another option that was mentioned earlier is Placido Polanco. I know hes the not having his best season, and hes the starting 2nd baseman on a 1st place team, but the Tigers really like Ramon Santiago, and I think theyd move Polanco for the right price. The fact that they're about ready to give up on Mags means they might be interested in Jake Fox. They could also use some starting pitching over there. Maybe Fox, Kevin Hart, plus a prospect or 2?
  8. Im really hoping the Phillies make with a big offer.
  9. Seriously though, how much would Nomar cost? Couldnt be too expensive. Maybe 1 of Hoffpauir/Hart/Fuld and 1 or 2 lower level prospects? If we werent giving up much, Id give Nomar one more go.
  10. Since Ryan is on contract through 2010(wow, Jays still on the hook for 15 mil) does that mean any team who picks him up pays prorated league min this year and full league min next year, or how does that work? Either way, its a low risk move.
  11. Wrong. Bozos=clowns. Clowns are supposed to make people happy. Cubs arent making me happy.
  12. We have no chance the touch Carpenter or Wainwright, so we better be good against this guy and whatever dreg they throw at us.
  13. I think the fake rally ends when we get the bases loaded no outs, someone hits a single but the guy on third trips and breaks his ankle running home, getting tagged out, then Yunel Escobar robs a home run, then Chipper Jones dives 20 rows in to catch a foul ball. Cubs lose. yeah, that probably wont happen, but I could see a walk, a single, runner to 3rd then a strikeout and a double play. cue Lou:"blah blah, blah, changes, changes, changes"
  14. Remember when we faced a string of crappy Pirates and Brewers pitchers and thought our offense was suddenly good? That was fun.
  15. Hopefully we can have a shut down inning here so we can at least have a fake rally.
  16. Seriosuly, your supposed lefty killer comes to the plate and you have him bunt. brilliant. God we suck.
  17. Good to see the offense has reverted to this again. Right now Id be just as satisfied with Aaron Miles over Fontenot or Baker. I cant wait until Lou channels David Bowie again and promises ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-changes. Of course, it will all amount to something stupid like Mike Fontenot to the 2 hole.
  18. 4 inning to get 2 runs, but I dont feel optimistic. Im just waiting for someone to jump in and defend the Cubs offense saying its OK to completely not show up for 20 innings.
  19. What was the fairly lengthy on field delay on game day about?
