  1. Holy cow. Oh wait, no. It's glass cow. Good to see you. Thank you sir. I spend most of my time lurking instead of posting these days. I was hoping to start a thread like this and get some positivity vibes flowing. Didn't work. Let's hope Z can shut them down today. It worked for the board. For the team, not so much.
  2. I guess were not completely pennyless. Hows about we leave the bullpen be and focus on what we really need. Does Freddy Sanchez count as a "mid level" player?
  3. Lets just lose the game, get it over with, and go home and take it out on Dusty Baker and his Reds.
  4. If only they could get Ron and Hawk to do a broadcast together. It would be as priceless as it would be maddening.
  5. They have 1 more solid starterthan the Brewers, and while the Brewers have one of the better 3-4 hitters in the league, the rest of that offense isnt getting it done. It seems like the league has figured out JJ Hardy and Corey Hart and the rest is nothing to write home about. Id put them at 3rd.
  6. I know the Reds would charge us an in division premium, and I know hes a fairly large contract, but its not that bad of a deal. This year, hes owed the remainder of 4.75 mil 2010-6.75 mil, which we can afford hes owed 11 mil in 2011, but we should have some decent payroll cleared out by then, and in 2012, he owed 12 mil with a 1 mil club buyout option. I think thats pretty good deal considering a middle infielder who can hit and field is exactly what we need. Of course, we wont tell Lou that hes a righty.
  7. Maybe The Cubs, Cards, and Brewers should start worrying about the Astros. Their offense is just as good as all 3. They have better starting pirching than the Brewers. They're 1 solid starter away from having better starting pitching than the Cardinals. With Sampson, Hawkins, and Valverde, the back end of their pen is up there as well. So why do people keep saying its just the Astros? Is Bourn, Tejada, Pence, Lee, Berkman, Pudge not just as good as any offense in the division? This is a team that should recognize that this could be their chance and go out and get those last puzzle pieces.
  8. I don't think a fire sale will happen. But this offseason some major changes need to take place, starting with the General Manager, and working down to the offense. But how many changes can we really make? -Were stuck with the unholy trinity in the outfield. They aint going nowhere. -3rd base is solid. 1st base is solid, at least for another year. catcher as well. -Theriot will stay, but will he be a SS or 2B -This basically leaves us with an offensive upgrade in the middle infielder, unlsess they really plan on taking a huge bath on Bradley. Its happened before, but I have to assume he at least gets 1 more year before hes dumped.
  9. that might not even be true Bill Hall is the best 3B in baseball... ever to be benched in favor of Casey McGhee.
  10. How about Carlos Perez? I bet hed take a job. Soomeone needs to out crazy Jose Valverde.
  11. We need to accept that there is no one player out there that can come in and right the offense. Its too inconsistant. OK, I take that back, there are guys who can do that, but I dont think that Pujols, A Rod, or Han Ram will be on the market any time soon.
  12. The Nats hadn't been swept at home in 2 months, with serieses against the Braves, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Reds, Mets, Giants, and Orioles in that span. Good teams get good records by beating the crap out of the awful ones. Winning 1 out of 3 at Philadelphia is what should have been expected. Philly is one of the top teams in the NL, if you're winning serieses on the road against the best teams in your league then you are the best team in the league. Tonight [expletive] blew, but to say oh look the Cubs are awful cause they can only beat [expletive] teams...I wasn't aware Philly's been steamrolling the Dodgers every night. Idiots make these arguments every [expletive] year, "oh yeah we can beat up on the Pirates, come back to me when we sweep an 11 game series in Yankee Stadium!!" The fact is, with a team like the Phillies, even if you lose, you can still score. There pitching is not good. Not by any means. Losing 9-6 or 7-5 is one thing, but weve only scored 2 runs in 22 innings vs. these guys. Besides, whichever NL Central team manages to backdoor their way into October will likely face the Phillies or Giants, at which point winning 1 game wont do.
  13. Mark DeRosa was great for us, but I wouldnt call trading him dismantling the team. Other than him and Edmonds, we have the same basic core, and they're not getting the job done unless were facing really bad pitchers. Edmonds and DeRosa combined for like 140 RBI last year. Nobodys ever denied that trading DeRosa was stupid, but thats no excuse for the crap and inconsistancy weve gotten from the rest of these guys.
  14. Thanks Jim Hendry for having a $140 mill payroll that still has Shark on the major league roster. wasn't Stevens the only one left in the pen at that time. Sure, why not put all the blame on Shark. The 13 innings of offensive ineptitude was all his fault.
  15. If only we could just fire hitters until someone gets it right.
  16. Don't be silly. It's gonna be Tug McGraw that comes back for Philly's stretch run. Tug McGraws dead, so yeah, hed fit in perfectly with this lifeless bunch.
  17. To be fair getting to down on the team because they get beat on the road against the hottest team in baseball is not smart either. Although that kind of defends the point that they are average. When you get beat by the Phillies, its understandable to be pounded by their offense, but when your offense gets shut down by guys like Lopez, Blanton, and Park, thats your own problem. We shut that offense down for the most part, but our guys looked as worthless as they did all through May and June.
  18. He hit 2 home runs today, so thats 1 more run than the Cubs sad sack offense.
  19. I bet his 20 MPH fastball will fool everyone in our line-up. Yeah but he's really smart and stuff. We got shot down by Joe Blanton, Chan Ho Park, and Ive already forgotten who yesterday. Why waste Moyer? just bring up someone from AA. Maybe Hideo Nomo needs work.
  20. Lets make Chan Ho Park look like an ace for the first time since like 1993.
  21. I hope they do creep up and take the division. Right now, we have 3 teams with no real interest in winning it, and the Astros really want to win.
