    So assuming that Glaus comes back, their lineup could be Rasmus CF DeRosa 2B Pujols 1B Holliday LF Ludwick RF Glaus 3B Molina C Lugo SS Damn, Tony wont have to mess around batting the pitcher 8th anymore. This could easily make them the best team in the NL.

    Hendry had the money to finance that fire last year. Now, we need to hope it lights a fire under our players. And if Troy Glaus returns that is going to be a scary team.

    Fukudome>Schumaker Theriot Lee Aramis=Holliday-a lot of X factors between these 2 Bradley Soriano>DeRosa Soto>Molina, and thats if Soto comes back healthy and productive Fontenot/Baker=Ryan/Lugu, who cares, they all suck The Cards really seem to have a bit of an edge here. Again, If Bradley, Soriano, and Soto are producing, they're well better than the Cards guys. If Ramirez was fully healthy, hed be better than non Coors Holliday, but we all see him grimacing after every swing, and while hes still great to have in the lineup, I dont see the power coming back this season.

    Everything I've heard says the Brewers are not willing to part with what it's going to take to get Halladay. So at least there's that. From what Ive heard, the Phillies are the favorite, and The Brewers are their biggest threat with the Cardinals still very much in it. The reason its not smart for teh Brewers is a team like the Phillies can trade top prospects and then be able to afford to go out and buy more players, while smaller market teams the Brewers rely on those propects for the future. If the Cards get Holliday and Halladay, crap. I know, its almost impossible, but, but if they did, crap. They won't have a farm system after that should it happen, but it would be worth it to them. They would almost certainly have to give up Rasmus after trading Wallace for Holliday It might almost be worth it to give them the division and then let Holliday and Halladay walk in '10 and '11 respectively. Pujols contract is up in the next few years and then theyd be forced to chose between resigning him or putting an actual team together.

    I wouldnt go that far. Its doubtful that Holliday will retrn too the Cards next year because he'll be one of the more sought after free agents of the off season. I dont see any other teams in the division making any huge off season moves, and as has been pointed out, after next year, we'll have a nice amount of payroll off the books and hopefully Ricketts or whoever gets the team gives us a payroll increase.

    Guess I'm just wondering if someone else sees something I don't. Wouldn't be the first time. We need more production from Soriano and Bradley as well as Soto when he returns. Lee needs to keep up what hes doing. I really wish there was a way to get Fox in the lineup regularly, but that will be hard. Of course, the pitching needs to stat strong as well.

    Its not even slowly. He is a well rounded hitter. I just wish he could stop making those pesky fielding and base running mistakes.

    Correction here, it should say Shane Robinson instead of Peterson according to one of the sports radio shows down here. I hope so. 3 guys. I guess now we can only hope that Wallace eclipses all expectation and then some. Of course, he'll be on the A's, so it wont matter.

    I have no problem with Reed being here. He's a solid defender and hits lefties very well. He might be a tad overpaid, but I don't think he's anything to complain about. The point IM making is that Hendry knew that ownsership was going to change and money would be tight. When you have the seemingly limetless payroll he enjoyed for the majority of his CUbs time, then yes, you can overpay on a guy like Johnson, but when your short on finances you shouldnt go throwing money around like that.

    If we get more of our guys to wake the hell up, wre just as good, but weve been waiting all season on some of these guys and its not happening.

    It would be nice if some of his team mates would join him in 2008 form. Soriano, Fontenot, and Bradley, Im looking in your directions.

    The Cardinals lineup is going to come dangerously close to looking better than that from the '04-'06 era. I guess theres always the wld card and the hope that DeRosa and Holliday skip town as free agents in the offseason.

    I know the Cubs have had their share of flops, but Im fairly confident that if you were to talk to fans of most teams with knowledge of their farm system, theyd be able to produce a similar list of flops.

    Why did we sign Gathright when we had Fuld? Why did we sign Miles when we had Scales and Blanco? Why did we sign Bako when we had Hill? 2 of those guys are long gone. I wouldnt be surprised if Miles(not Bruce) is too by the end of the month. Between those 3 wastes of money, thats over 6 million dollars that we could have really used right about now. Also, look at Reed Johnson. Dont get me wrong, hes a nice little role player/4th outfielder, but that 3 million could have gone a long way, especially along with the 6+ mil wasted on those other 3 jokers. Its not like Hendry didnt know what was going on with the ownership and was low on money. Its almost like he wanted to spend every available penny right then and there. As for Bradley, even if we did feel that he could put up similar to his 2008 numbers, it might have been smarter to go after Bobby Abreu for cheaper, and wed probably still have DeRosa.

    They're doing what it takes to get their foot in the door, but I dont know about a deep run. The Dodgers and Phillies are still the teams to beat, and while a deal for Holliday could cement the Cards as the division favorite, thats really all it does for them.
