  1. Closers: Ryan Franklin (37) - $2.75MM club option with a $250K buyout Mike Gonzalez (32) Trevor Hoffman (42) Fernando Rodney (33) Rafael Soriano (30) Jose Valverde (30) Billy Wagner (38) - $8MM club option with a $1MM buyout J.J. Putz (33) - $9.15MM club option with a $1MM buyout --- Valverdes the only one Id really be interested in, maybe Soriano. Franklins tempting to piss off Cardinal fans, but I dont think LaRussa allows players to take the pixie dust with them.
  2. my guesses: not necessarily in this order Josh Vitters Andrew Cashner Jay Jackson Chris Carpenter Hak Ju Lee Starlin Castro Brett Jackson Dae Eun Rhee David LaMehieu Tyler Colvin
  3. * 60 Mitch Atkins * 64 Justin Berg * 48 Neal Cotts 46 Ryan Dempster * 44 Chad Fox * -- Tom Gorzelanny 43 John Grabow 63 Kevin Gregg 37 Angel Guzman 40 Rich Harden 47 Aaron Heilman * 30 Ted Lilly 49 Carlos Marmol 45 Sean Marshall * 62 Marcos Mateo * 54 David Patton 29 Jeff Samardzija R 52 Jeff Stevens * 43 Jason Waddell 36 Randy Wells 38 Carlos Zambrano Catchers B/T Ht Wt DOB 55 Koyie Hill * 18 Geovany Soto Infielders B/T Ht Wt DOB 28 Jeff Baker 13 Andres Blanco 17 Mike Fontenot 5 Jake Fox 6 Micah Hoffpauir 25 Derrek Lee * 7 Aaron Miles 16 Aramis Ramirez * 24 Bobby Scales 2 Ryan Theriot Outfielders B/T Ht Wt DOB 21 Milton Bradley 1 Kosuke Fukudome 27 Sam Fuld * 9 Reed Johnson 12 Alfonso Soriano Above is the current 40 man. The names in bold I can pretty much guarantee arent on it next year for 1 reason or another. Others, like Gregg and Harden are questionable. I figure that of the 9 bolded, 4 of them could be filled with Parker, Gaub, Colvin, and 1 or 2 more.
  4. I'm not really sure Chris can net that much in return. That said, hey, a low A kid with some upside might be better, with Castillo/Clevenger likely slated for AAA duty if both guys are around. I just hate losing Robinson for nothing. He'd be a great Rule 5 pick since he's probably already ready to be a backup C in the big leagues but you already have Clevenger whose bat I trust more. I'm definitely not as high on Papelbon as you guys are. I dont know much about Robinsons defense, but if its good, Id say give him a shot at the backup role next year. His numbers would probably be around your average backup catcher with an avg. in the low .200s and maybe a home run or 2 mixed in.
  5. I just found it interesting. On a team with mashers like Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano that Theriot is the one that drives them nuts.
  6. And once again, Tyler with a late season surge to give some hope ... -Is it me, or is Tyler Colvin the Alfonso Soriano of our farm system? It seems that since we drafted him, he'll go through these massive hot streaks, and then out of nowhere, he'll completely shut down. -So when does Marquez Smith get the bump to Iowa? I think weve firgured out exactly what he is in AA, and its time to give him the push, especially considering his age and that the I Cubs dont seem to have an actual 3B. -John Gaub belongs in the big leagues. that is all.
  7. I was in Kenosha visiting some people, and when it came to baseball talk, the Brewer fans view Ryan Theriot as the devil. Sounds a lot how Cub fans used to view David Eckstein when he was a Cardinal. Basically, they want him out of the division ASAP. From the way they sounded, its pretty universal amongst Brewers fans.
  8. True dat The funny thing is, between the 2 losses, Jake Fox was 3/4 of the offense. Could he really be much worse than Milton Bradley in right? Im not going to stress though,at least we get out of that hell hole with 1 win. If a hurricane could sweep through and take that stadium with it, that would be super, but at least we dont have to go back until next year.
  9. So hows BJ Ryan looking? The numbers look good early on, but any word on the velocity?
  10. Id definitely protect Gaub, Parker, Clevenger, and Wellington Castillo. As for Colvin Id wait and see what he does the remainder of the year and decide then.
  11. Whats the word on this Bud Norris character? Is he a top or highly touted prospect, or is he just some guy they brought up whose doing well for himself?
  12. Im very perplexed by the Cardinals team. In its current configuration, youd expect an offensive juggernaught, but it really hasnt been for the most part. Instead, theyve been nickel and diming the other team to death.
  13. Aram expected back tomorrow and Z expected to make his next start.
  14. this isnt a serious question is it? not really, i mean i know he's not owed anything. but he's only making the minimum, so you think one of the 8 figure guys or the organization could throw him a little extra. I give Hill credit and respect him for being out there every single day, but his production is barely worthy of the league minimum salary and I'm sure he is happy to be making that. so your saying that a player making league minimum should be given compensation for getting playing time? Ryan Theriots making near minumum. Randy Wells too.
  15. this isnt a serious question is it?
  16. These were both posted in the game thread, so Im not too worried
  17. Obligatory "how many game-winners will he hit against the Cubs?" post. Yeah, he'll terrorize those Iowa Cubs.
  18. If Aramis is D2D, we need Fox in he lineup be it at 3rd or C.
  19. I think hes out of options. Either way, I dont think that thats the answer. The answer might be to put him into some lower pressure situations and put Guz in the set up role for a while.
  20. I cant help but notice that Zs early exit is on every sports related website, such as MLB, ESPN, Rotoworld, as is Hanley Ramirez, but Aramises is mentioned nowhere. Does this mean its relatively minor or they just dont know anything?
  21. I sure hope you feel better after flexing your message board muscles. It must be nice sitting back on a keyboard singling people out like you are "all that". Being "all that" on a message board in the grand scheme of things is the equivalent of playing solitaire at the kitchen table. You are the man. If you are going to be allowed to flap your mouth on here about others than I'll flap mine back. I could say the same about the triumvirate of you, Dextermorgan & derwood. A trio of message board hero's. Wrigley23 - honestly I can't really say I see the similarity in the behavior and/or posting tendencies of those 3 people you mention. I would have to agree with the iceman. these 3 are not at all alike.
  22. It looks like the White Sox will be a very pitching oriented team in the near future, with Peavy, Buerhle, Danks, and Floyd making a very nice rotation. Its almost certain that Thome and Dye are gone after this year, with Konerko following the next and they'll be building an offense around Quentin, Beckham, and Alexei Ramirez.
  23. The package itself is very believable, but the financial part is what I find hard to believe.
  24. If anyone other than Shark goes down, I will be both shocked and appalled. Shark has done nothing to prove he belongs in the major leagues this season, and Id rather have Berg, Ryan, Gaub, or Parker up than him.
  25. So I take it that we wont be hearing any Ramirez news until tomorrow. And if he does need to be DLd, we all know who comes up in his place. Plaese, please, please dont let this happen.
