  1. Id like Granderson as well, but Cameron is a hell of a lot cheaper both money and prospect wise. Again, it hinges on how much money we can get back from the Bradley contract. The 1.7 we get from Miles is a step in the right direction, however, I hope Grabows 3.5 mil or however much he gets in 2010 doesnt come back to haunt us.
  2. No. I actually remember hearing a rumor that he had an attitude and was diffiult to coach, but I think it was debunked.
  3. Id like Victorino, but I wouldnt give up Z, Lilly, or Dempster for him, and Im guessing they're looking for a better return than Marshall, Gorzalanny, or Samardjzia
  4. Was the DJ Elias Koblentz? haha, you kidding... that dude was pissed when Aaron Miles signed with the Cubs... he'd HATE this I would love to watch that again. I almost peed myself when watching that the first time. Is that guy still posting? He actually had a goodbye video. I remember he had 2 little bothers that started making videos, and people were attacking them as well. I kind of felt bad for them, because the big bro was obviously putting them up to it. His video when we signed Edmonds was an absolute classic.
  5. I agree that this move opens the door for Baker to move into the super sub role with the team but I have this funny feeling that this trade isn't going to open the door for Theriot move to 2B, but the opening to close the Castillo to the Cubs, Burrell to the Mets, Bradley to the Rays trade we've heard so much about. I hope I am wrong, tho. well it is better than us getting GMJ Sadly, I wouldnt count it out.
  6. It stillmakes me wonder what were going to do about a righty off the bench or 4th outfielder. Fuld,Colvin, and Hoffpauir are all leftyies, and the closet thing we have to a major league ready bat in Iowa is Brad Snyder, also left handed. Any chance we re sign Reed?
  7. Thank you Bruce. Hear anything juicy or is it basically calm, besides the trade? Sorry for the delay. Was a little busy. It's calm on the surface, but underneath, there's a whole lot of talk going on. I think we'll see some action at the winter meetings. I drive down to Indy Sunday and will be blogging all day every day there. Should be fun. Any hints as to what we can be expecting? Will we end up happy, pissed, perplexed, or indifferent?
  8. Rather than start a new thread, might I suggest David DeJesus as an alternative? I know hes been brought up in years past, but not this year. That way, Lou gets his lefty. I know hes not the type of guy whose going to put us over the top, but hed be a solid 5-6 hitter, which is really what were looking for. I dont know much about his defense, but hed be a lot cheaper than Granderson prospect wise and Cameron money wise.
  9. I nominate our starting right fielder, Garrett Anderson. "I was part of the minority that wasn't in a hurry to get rid of Fox... so I'm not too thrilled about that... but the fact that we got rid of Miles in the process makes everything okay. I'll sleep better knowing he's gone." I was a fan of Fox as well, but just look at it as giving up Jake Fox and $1,000,000 for a decent middle reliever, 2 respectable prospects and the departure of Aaron Miles.
  10. Id love Lackey or Sheets, but my thinking is that if there was that kind of money in the budget, they would have at least offerd Harden arbitration. Im full expecting to start the season with a rotation of Z/Demp/Wells/2 of Samarshallanny. It aint pretty, but I guess it could be worse, especially considering were not exactly in a pitching rich division.
  11. Are there actually rumors of us pursuing Lackey? no, but if hendry is going to throw down money for a starter, it might as well be for a good one we really need one of those on this staff, and hendry does too if he wants to *save* his job We have plenty of "good" starters, but what we dont have is a legit ace. As far as Im concerned, The only aces in the division are both on the Cardinals. Zambranos just isnt an ace, and its looking less and less like he ever will be. Oswalt looks as though his ace days are behing him. Cueto and Gallardo both have the potential, but it remains to be seen.
  12. I think so. Im glad Fox will go somewhere where he has a chance to play. Also, Fox is one of those guys that a lot of teams would be intrigued by, but hes not proven enough for them to give up anything of value. However, if the season were to start today, and assuming Baker was our starting 2B, we have 0 righty pop on the bench. Yeah, Blanco and Hill are switch hitters, but they dont exactly qualify as "pop"
  13. If anyones interested, heres what they had to say on the A's fan site about the trade. While some seem intriqued by Fox, for the most part they seem perplexed and indifferent. They dont seem to care either way about any of the guys they sending us. http://www.athleticsnation.com/2009/12/3/1184608/as-trade-for-jake-fox-aaron-miles
  14. If we sign Padilla for more than we could have kept Harden for, Im going to have to find something to kick.
  15. Im sure it will be back in full force when we trade Milton Bradley for Luis Castillo and sign Rick Ankiel to a 3/20 deal.
  16. Im interested in him, but not if Castro or Vitters are necessary to make the trade work. Id also rather keep Cashner and Jackson, but if one of them are needed to make the deal, Id be OK with it. Detroit reportedly want major league ready players. Between Fox, Fuld, Colvin, Marshall, Gorzalanny, Samardzjia, and StevensI really think we can make something happen, and wed also probably have to kick them a solid prospect like Burke, Lee, Carpenter, Castillo, Archer, or Dolis. I don't think there is much of a chance the Cubs can get Granderson without giving up any of Castro/Vitters/Cashner/Jackson . Grandersons decent, but fairly expensive, and the Tigers want to cut costs. Id offer: Jake Fox 1 of Fuld or Colvin 1 of Gorzalanny/Marshall/Shark any 1 prospect besides Vitters, Castro, Jackson, or Cashner Thats a major league ready platoon or 4th outfielder, a DH, a #4 or 5 starter and solid prospect. If they accept, good. if not, we move on. This is bat [expletive] crazy. Then we move on and Jim Hendry does what Jim Hendry does best and throw money at Mike Cameron.
  17. If Fox can learn to hit a slider, he can be a quailty major league DH. He must offer Jobu rum.

  19. They also signed Takashi Saito for a 1 year 3 mil deal, so I guess Gonzalez and Soriano will be leaving.
  20. maybe the same team that was hoodwinked into giving John Grabow more than run of the mill lefty middle reliever money?
  21. Ive always been a fan of Polanco and his oddly shaped cranium, but 3/18mil? Even if he wasnt 34 years old, that would sound like a lot for him. I guess Ibanez worked out for them so who knows. All I know is if This were the Cubs, there would be people with torches and pitchforks outside Hednrys door.
  22. Unless we trade for Granderson, thats probably whats going to happen be it Ankiel, Byrd, or whoever. Unless we get decent money back for Bradley, I dont see us having enough money to sign Cameron. I think we had something like 11-12 mil in available pay roll at the start of the offseason, and Grabow just got 3.5 of that.
  23. I think Milton Bradley and the way the situation was handled broke Hendry, and the only thing that can save him now is a rabbit.
