  1. So if camp were to end today, Id expect the pen to look something like Marmol Grabow Marshall Caridad Berg Samardzjia Gaub or Russell May as well run with it, and if it looks bad early on, there will be available replacement candidates.
  2. http://muskat.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/03/321_silva_leaves_with_tight_qu.html lol All is lost.
  3. Whenever Josh Vitters is ready to take over.
  4. I'd predict Nady starts on the DL, with Fuld/Colvin/whomever as 4th OF. Fine by me either way. If Nady does start on the DL, we have Fuld/Colvin as our 4th outfielder, with Tracy as IF/5th OF and Millar as backup corner IF. If either one of them proves that they cant cut it, then send them on their way when Nady is activated. If they do well, option Fuld/Colvin, unless they prove to be too good, and then you have Nady as your 4th IF and Tracy as the 5th OF. Remember, Fukudome can also spell Byrd in CF from time to time with Nady or Tracy in RF. It would be pretty much what it was in 2007 when we had Ward and Floyd in similar positions.
  5. I guess Im accepting the fact that Millar has earned a spot on the team at this point. Hes had a super spring, and if he hasnt earned a spot, there was no reason for him to be here to begin with. Theres room for both him and Tracy to fill the final 2 bench spots behind Nady, Hill, and Font/Baker, and if someone gets hurt, we have Hoffpauir, Fuld, and Colvin waiting in the wings, This gives us some very nice deopth off the bench, which we were sorely lacking last year. It was nice to have Blancos glove off the bench last year, but I think that Lou will chose offense over defense for the bench and hope that Font can play a respectable enough SS to spell Theirot every now and then. Nady is our 4th outfilelder. Tracy can play all corner positions Millar can play corner infield. If anything comes up, we have a host of AAAAers waiting in Iowa to come up.
  6. Holy wife beatings Batman, the Royals are beating the D Backs 17-0 in the 4th inning. The 4th inning. The Royals.

  8. OK, Ill admit that ever since the disaster that was Corey Patterson, who I was SURE would be the next Rickey Henderson, Ive been waiting for something great to come out of our system, and gotten over excited over a lot of them. However, Tyler isnt some random guy having a good spring. Hes a former 1st round pick and top prospect coming off what looks to have been a succesful TJS, and I say give him a chance.
  9. He has bounced back nicely from his dismal Cubs debut, but hes been so bad for so many years that I dont trust that he'll be anything more than long inning mop up man for when Z gets booted after 3 innings because a hot dog vendor looked at him funny.
  10. Seriously, make room. At 24 years old, he is rapidly approaching his expiration date as a "prospect". I know the past 2 years, weve seen spring training phenoms in Hoffpauir and Fox, but Tyler Colvin is not Micah Hoffpauir or Jake Fox. Hes actually serviceble in the outfield. And unlike the other 2, hes not some guy who decided to wait until his late 20's to come into his own. he was on his way to a successful professional career before being sidelined by Tommy John. There is room for him on the bench, especially with Nady likely to start the season on the DL. Hill has 1 bench spot. Font/Baker have another. Other than that, Tracy and Millar are abttling it out for a utility role. While Millar is having a better spring, Id prefer Tracy because of his age and the fact that he could be useful past this year if he does well. Back to Tyler, theres little reason not to give him a bench spot other than he has oprions. If we have Tracy or Millar as backup 1B, theres little reason to keep Hoff around. Fuld is fun to watch fly around the outfield, but hes a very one dimensional player. Colvin has a bright future, and it would be nice to see it start now.
  11. Im nit even going to put Starlin on the list, because hed win in a landslide, and its been all but confirmed that he'll start in Iowa. I wont add Chad Tracy either because I think hes in unless he get hurt. Hes too valuable if Lee or Ramirez need an off day or get hurt.
  12. For those last few innings, the Cubs must have had the most white guys on the field at one time since sometime in the mid 50's.
  13. Just turned the big 30, his joints are starting to creak I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that hes very unlikely to make the team. Seriously. With all the competiton, youd think it would make him step up his game, but between Nady, Fontenot, and Hill pretty much having 3 of the 5 bench spots locked down, theres only 2 left, and Chad Tracy has the inside track on another. Hoff may have some power in the bat, but all and all, Blanco, Colvin and Fuld are probably more valuable than him due to their defense. Thats got to get in your head, when you finally make the big show after all that time in the minors, and then they startlining up replacements for you.
  14. I didn't either. I'm going off the article that was posted from mlbtraderumors. Him, Bell or Downs would be the guys I'd focus on if I were Hendry. If were going to deal with the Pads, just go after Mike Adams. Id love Heath Bell, but at what cost? Hes a closer at the top of his game and the Pads are going to want a lot back for him. In fact I cant see the Pads sending him to us without at least Cashner in the deal. I wouldnt mind Smoltz or Weathers for cheap either. Heck, throw Smoltz in the mix for the 5th starter job.
  15. He played yesterday for a little bit but got injured. He's out 10-14 days with a knee sprain I think that Tracys a sure thing to make the big league roster unless hes awful or gets hurt. he may be auditioning for the 2011 full time 3B job if Aramis opts out and isnt resigned and Vitters is still a few years away. You need a backup SS, so Blancos probably in, unless they decide to start Castro on the 25 man, which I dont see happeneing this year. Millar, Hoffpauir, and Fuld are the ones competing for the final bench spot, and that could just be a temp job while Nadys on the DL.
  16. Theres Mike Adams of the Padres. Hes always been quietly consistant.
  17. Like what I see from Russell. With a lot of available pen spots, he could be in the mix. Didnt realise he was Jeff Russells kid. He was pretty good as I recall.
  18. Updated Fukudome RF Theriot SS Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Byrd CF Soriano LF Soto C Baker 2B Zambrano SP Dempster SP Wells SP Marshall SP Gorzolanny SP Marmol RP(CL) Grabow RP Samardzjia RP Gaub RP Stevens RP Caridad RP Berg RP Hill C Tracy IF/OF Fuld OF Fontenot IF Blanco IF Lilly DL Nady DL Guzman DL Silva bye bye
  19. If he looks this bad for the remainder of ST, I could see them eating whatever they owe him and letting him walk. Id rather give the kids a chance than keeping someone that bad around. I dont want to base a decision on a guy off of 1 cactus league game, but the guy looked flat out awful out there.
  20. I know its just been 2 long innings of cactus league ball, but Ive already seen enough of Mr. Silva for one lifetime. Next.
  21. Hes definitely getting the first crack to prove himself. Hard to blame them. With the money hes getting, you have to at least give him the chance before making him baseballs highest paid mop up man.
  22. Why? If they're available now and for cheap it's because they suck. What is the point of shelling out that money, relatively little as it may be, to take a chance on a pile of crap just because he's a veteran? There are no truly quality veterans available on the cheap for the bullpen right now. None. Anyone you're getting that little at this time of the year is nothing but a gamble. Might as well take that gamble on the bevy of arms in the system already that won't cost anything extra. It's false hope to think there's a sure thing reliever just sitting out there right now waiting to be signed. Were not looking for a sure thing. Just a vet. At this point, you're right, theres really nothing out there, but when Calero was available, at that price Hendry should have jumped at it. Maybe he was just confused by the concept of offering a middle releiver less than a 3 year deal.
