  1. Not if the Houston Astros have any say in the matter. And the Pirates are still the Pirates.
  2. Our offense will maybe score 2-3 runs, and if Braun and Fielder come up against any Cubs reliever whose last name doesnt start with M, were in trouble. Demp better bring his A++ game or we have no chance. Oh yeah, and give Colvin another start. The way I see it, they're paying the same amount of money whether the guy making 20 mil or the guy making league min are playing, so we may as well go with the guy who isnt a complete liability.
  3. Heh, pretty much posted same thing at same time. Shouldnt you throw Grays name in with the Stevens/Paker/Gaub group as well? IIRC Gray has stuff that's probably a touch better, but he doesn't have the results that the other three have put up. He's got some MLB success under his belt though, which is more than the other guys without big K rates can say. Yea the bolded is why I mentioned Gray, besides the fact his stuff is supposed to be pretty damn good. Between Caridad, Berg, Russel, and Shark and Gaub, Stevens, Parker, and Gray, I know which 4sum Id much rather have on this team right now. What about Cashner? Hes a lot more valuable as a late inning reliever to us than as the AA ace.
  4. With respect to our pitching, our oponents only scored 14 runs in the last 5 games though, and I think only 5 of which were on our starters.. But yeah, our offense is jut bad. Good thing we spent all that money on a fancy new hitting coach.
  5. I really wish there was some way to let Soriano go and do something like the Dodgers did with Andruw Jones only with more money involved. Just set it up so he gets 5 mil a year for the rest of his natural life in exchange for going away.
  6. are most of the guys in Iowa even really considered "prospects" so much as spare parts for the big league club?
  7. I wonder how long before Rudy J comes under fire. So far, his 3 mil looks to be about as well spent as Aaron Miles and John Grabow. I know you can only blame a hitting coach so much, but damn, this is brutal.
  8. Nah, they probably could if they just went to them and said that they're simply not going to re-sign them. Benchings would probably help in that department too. It's a scummy move, though (except for Soriano, who just plain deserves it). We may want to keep some of those guys if we want to compete the next few years. I dont know who wed get to replace Lee, unless we want to give up everything on the farm for Adrian Gonzalez, making the future look evn more grim. Same with Ramirez. Id personally like to bring up Castro and give him a chance. As narrow as the window is open for us now, without Lee and Ramirez, we could be really, really bad. Im talking Pirates bad. Im all for not only bringing up Castro, but giving Cashner a shot in the pen. I know a lot of people want to save Castro for the future, but does the future mean when our team starts to look like thoise of the 90's? If they move their bigger contracts or let them expire, what's to stop them from signing FA's? But whats out there? Are we going to be able to get a better 1B and 3B than Lee and Ramirez? If we could get Lee for a 2 year deal and a good price, no reaso to let him go.

  10. I agree with this, but I'm very afraid that we will be close enough that Jim will try and make a trade to save his job. I really don't want him trading away any prospects. Yeah, I'm concerned that they're just going to middle around technically being in contention because of how bad the division is. If they do fall out of it it needs to be big so that both Hendry gets the boot and they wise up and look to move Lee/Aramis/Lilly/etc.. We gave out no trade clauses. We might not be able to move any of them. It's comical. Soriano is the albatross thats going to weigh us down for the next 5 years. Theres no way to trade a guy this bad with that kind of contract. Even is we were willing to eat more than half the money, I dont think theres a team out there who would want the guy for 4 plus years.
  11. Usually, I say _______ is the guy I want up in this situation. Well so far this year, theres really nobody who fits that bill. Maybe Lee.
  12. And whose next in line when Russell inevedibly starts blowing thin leads?
  13. Look around baseball. In no way am I fan of Hendry keeping his job, but look at how many GM's simply are not very good at their jobs. This is true, but a lot of them, dont come close to the payroll that Hendry has had to work with. Also, the fact that Hendry caters way too much to Lous every whim. I know I dont need to bring up the dismanteling of the 2008 team because of 3 bad games.
  14. But c'mon he looked so good in 10 innings of meaningless baseball last September. Of course either him or the lefty that can't get lefties out with the 1.40 career WHIP should be the 8th inning guy. If only we had another lefty whose been consistantly good the past 3 years who we could use in the 8th inning. If only.
  15. Marshall could have pitched this inning I guess.
  16. But, OMG the next gm could be worse.!!!!!!!!!!one!!!!!!!!!!!111 Nobody's said that no matter how many times you pretend that someone has. Yes, in fact, many people have said that the next GM could be worse. You included. Considering the payroll Hendry had the past 3 years and the product it produced, I cant imigine the next one being worse.
  17. The moral of the story is when you have good starting pitching, but an absolutely pathetic offense, you need a good set up man.
  18. Damn your sarcasm. I thought he drove in a run (watching the MLB.TV feed, which is a bit behind) you should have known better. This is Soto were talking about here.
  19. Then again, hes already in the game, but Nady would have been the better choice.
  20. This is the part of the game where a smarter manager would have pinch hit Colvin and left him in as a defensive sub for Soriano.
  21. The lower 6/9 of our lineup is the definition of dead weight.
  22. Caridad, Grabow, Samardzjia, whatever. If we loose this, it goes back to the top of the 1st.
  23. And off walks the most underappreciated man on this team. [expletive] Soriano.
  24. Just under 5 years at 20 mil a pop left of this.
