  1. And in perhaps bigger news than Starlins debut, Chris Carpenter and the Cardinals were able to due what we couldnt and solve the mighty Pirates.
  2. Miles, and it's not even close. Miles was at least coming off a career season, and at least at a 1 year/1 mil deal he would have made sense at the time. Grabow was basically your run of the mill middle releiver, and for some reason, Lou and Jim decided he was a top of the line set up man despite the fact that hed never done anything in his career to lead them to believe so. Grabows job could have been filled just as adaquately by John Gaub and 100X better by Sean Marshall.
  3. They were equally dumb. 2 positions we could have filled just as easily from the farm or late spring training scrap heapers.
  4. Theres a part of me who would LOVE to see Grabow blow a 10 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th.
  5. Yeah, we may end up seeing Fontenot at 3rd fairly often.
  6. I guess Aramis already got his hit for the week.
  7. If Castro keeps hitting like he is, we'll end up thanking the Cubs for their putrid performance at Pittsburgh.
  8. Knowing Lou, hed give the job to someone else out of principle, and it wouldnt be Jax or Cashner or even Diamond, it would be someone stupid like Atkins, Mathes, or dare I say...Samardzjia
  9. Dammit Kosuke, this is supposed to be Starlins night.
  10. If Castro can be even slightly productive and Aramis ever pulls out of it, this could be one hell of a lineup, especially when Good Sorianos with the club.
  11. If nothing else, it will be a fun little distraction from the fact that out would be best hitter/RBI producer has been slightly more productive than Aaron Miles. The move kind of reminds me of Gordon Beckhams seemingly rush to the big leagues. I guess it worked out pretty well for him last year. This year, not so much.
  12. Spencers catching my interest as well. Id like to see what he can do in Iowa sooner than later. Im getting sick of all the AAAAers over there anyway. The only way I can see Cashner or Jax in the bigs this year is if there is an injury, theyre brought up as relievers, which we dont want or we become sellers and trade Lilly.
  13. Id happily trade any 3 of those guys for Adrian, assuming an extension was in the plans. Cashner and Jacksons ceilings are probably as 2-3 starters, and Castro will most likely be a .280/.800s type of hitter. Adrian is one of baseballs elite, and someone we could really build a team around. Id make the deal. If the want to throw in Bell too, super. However, before this pipe dream can even be considered, we have to ignore the fact that the Padres are an above .600 team and The Cubs cant get over the .500 line to save their collective lives.
  14. win and few, lose a few, win a few, lose a few. repeat process, end result, at or around .500 when the season comes to an end. Basically, this team isnt much better or worse than the 2007 team, the difference being the the '07 team wasnt in a division with a clear cut favorite.
  15. Final line on Jax, 6IP, 3H 1ER 1BB 2K and will end up with an ND. Between Castro, Cashner, and Jackson, at least we have some bright spots despite the Cubs performance the past 3 days. Caridad now in to pitch. Hopefully hes ready to come back soon because I dont know how much more of Jeff Gray I can stomach.
  16. Cashners done after 5.2 due to a PC of 98. final line, 0ER 2H 3BB 8K. Studtastic. I just thought Id add that the new Bay Bears pitcher is named Rogue Mercedes, which may be the coolest name ever.
  17. So when was the last time we were swept by the Pirates anyway?
  18. What funtastic week of baseball. Try to suck a bit less this weekend Cobs.
  19. On an evening where your big league club looks abslutely inept, its good to see the future looking bright So far: J Jax 5IP 0ER 1H 1BB 2K Ca$h 5IP 0ER 1H 3BB 6K Keep it up boys.
  20. Noice to see Starlin catching fire again, 2-3 with a triple to add to yesterdays 3-5. The newly intriguing Matt Spencer is also red hot.
  21. Wow, I hope these guys have the decency to crawl into a hole and not show their faces again for a long, long time after this one.
  22. The good thing about being a big money team is that the rebuilding process is a lot faster. Basically, we'll be building something around Soriano, Soto, and maybe Aramis. With Lilly and Lee more than likely gone after the year, thats a nice chunk of change to work with, although If prefer wait another year for Fielder or Adrian Gonzalez to become available.
  23. So I guess merely bad pitching isnt enough anymore. We have to face absolutely horrendous pitching to stand a chance. Cant wait to see pitcher TBD throw 8 shut out innings tomorrow.
  24. I vote the 7 spot with Soto 5 and Fontenot 8. I know, or at least like to think he'll snap out of it, but for now, we wont be able to make it with a guy this bad in the 5 spot.
