  1. Struck got his arse handed to him today. 6 ER on 11 H through 5.1 IP with 0/1 BB/K.
  2. Because the only thing better than Z for one year at 18 million is Burnett for two years at 18 million. Which is why I said Burnett+cash.
  3. I still think the Indians end up in 3rd place, but bless their hearts for trying. The Tigers may not have a chance at going beyond the 1st round, but I still think they're significantly better than the rest of that division, unless Justin Verlander or Miguel Cabrera end up with significant injuries. ETA: Damn, I knew Thome was good last year, but I didn't realise that he OPSd 1.039.
  4. I'm going to go ahead and throw this out there: Carlos Zambrano and Carlos Pena for A.J. Burnett and cash. We could then have a 2012 rotation of CJ Wilson, Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, AJ Burnett, and hopefully Andrew Cashner but probably Randy Wells. Still wouldn't be as good as the Brewers but would be an improvement over what we have this year.
  5. I don't think anyone was being serious. Were they?
  6. Yeah, Dogfish should be the mass consumed beer at Cubs games. That and Rogue Dead Guy Ale.
  7. Mark Grace also sold himself as a beer drinking, womanizing, everyday Joe, and the general public eats that [expletive] up. Well yeah, if your white.
  8. For the most part, Lee didn't seem to have an issue. Problem is, all of our recent big money dissapointments have been either black or hispanic. If only we'd signed Adam Dunn so we could show the world the equal opportunity hecklers we really are.
  9. .... and now a stolen base !! Maybe The Yankees should hit him leadoff ???? fixed.
  10. As long as there is a white trash segment to cater to, there will be. It's a step above Schlitz and Milwaukees Best.
  11. I thought that was last century. You mean we have another 97 years of this [expletive]?
  12. That's all fine and good if that's what they're thinking. I just pray they're not buying into all this leadership BS. Eh, the person that is gonna make the first base decision next year is likely not even working for the Cubs right now When did Kenney get the boot? I'm guessing that you're insinuating that Crane Kenney will have a hand in deciding our next 1B, which isn't likely.
  13. If were talking about a band-aid if we decide to sit out of the Fielder/Pujols sweepstakes, then yes. Ryan Ludwick, Garrett Jones, and Melvin Mora are a few examples of guys who bloomed in their late 20's, although even they were a few years younger than LaHair and their success was relatively short lived. Still, if were just talking about a short erm band-aid and not a long term answer, than yes, I'd be willing to give LaHair a shot, and maybe see is we can get Votto in 2013, if not, keep changing band-aid until 2015(at the earliest) when Vogelbach will be ready, unless something better makes it's way through our farm system. As I've said, my choices 1A and 1B are Fielder and Pujols, with Cuddyer as a distant backup plan, and even then he could shift to outfield if we were to land Votto in '13. If we can't get them, I have no interest in another year of Pena. Then again, could Aramis to 1st be an option?
  14. I dont give a [expletive] how much I come under fire for this, I want to see Brian LaHair goddamit. Send Pena to the Yankees for whatever. He's of no use to us. If the Cubs decide to sit out of the Fielder/Pujols sweepstakes, it will suck, but it will have nothing to do with LaHair. Yes, if we can't land Fielder, Pujols, or even Cuddyer, I would prefer LaHair, Ridling, or even Colvin over Pena, because it would likely mean they don't plan on building a team to win in 2012. Even if the Cubs do sign C.J. Wilson, and then resign Aramis and Pena, if anything it would probably do nothing more than bump us to a 3rd-4th place team rather than a 5th place team. The fans arent as stupid as they once were and arent going to accept another Jeromy Burnitz, which another season of Pena would basically be.
  15. I'm hearing that both the Yankees and Red Sox have also made claims on Floyd, making any Cubs claim moot if it were to happen.
  16. As much as hearing that the Cubs want to re sign Carlos Pena puts a knot in my stomach, I don't know how they're getting that info. This would be the decision of the GM, and in case Muskat and friends forgot there is no GM. Whether we get one who wants to build an immediate winner or one who has a more long term plan, I can't see Pena being a part of either scenario, unless the GM to be simply wants to build a mediocre baseball team. If the Cubs like Pena so much, just let him go to the Yankees where his final months will mean something. The Yankees must actually wantvhim, there's no reason to have made the claim to block the Red Sox who have A Gon at 1st and Ortiz at DH. Just work something out.
  17. That would be pretty awesome, but I don't think they'd send him our way for a reasonable price. They also waived John Danks, who I'd prefer, but he's only under team control through '13.
  18. If our new GMs 1st order of business is to give Carlos Pena a 3 year extension, I hate him already. I have no faith in a team with Carlos Pena unless he's batting 5th behind a legit major league 3-5 hitters unless we can somehow manage to sign CJ Wilson and trade for Felix Hernandez. Even then I don't want him. He's the epitome of bland mediocrity and offers no upside whatsoever. At least take a chance with someone else, the floor's not likely to be much lower and the ceiling would be higher. Right, he is what he's going to be. Probably closer to 2011 than 2010, but 2007 Carlos Pena isn't coming back, and '08-'09 are very doubtful as well. There's no point in giving any amount of money in a guy who won't make you good enough to compete and is too expensive if you don't plan to.
  20. Depending on when the claim went through, he got past either every other team, or every other team except for the Red Sox. So if 2 teams are tied both make a claim, who wins?
  21. So even after the waiver deadline, teams can still make waiver trades, but the player can't be on the playoff roster, but even then, they can replace an injured, or "injured" player. Am I correct in thinking this?
  22. Its the [expletive] Yankees. Let them have him. What are they going to do with him? Who the hell knows, but let them have him. So he literally made it all the way to the end of the waiver wire.
  23. What? No. Fielder and Pujols are going to ultimately get their money from somebody, and whether or not we hang onto Carlos Pena isn't going to change that. Keep in mind, the GM who would even make such a play hasn't even been interviewed yet.
  24. I'm SO glad that Mr. Soriano doesn't regret signing a bloated contract that will probably keep the next 3 generations of his family very rich while he gave us 2 good seasons, 2 productive seasons, and 1 bad season plus whatever else is to come. And here I was feeling sorry for him. Why feel sorry for him? Because (according to the quote) the team has been a disappointment and Soriano thought hewas signing on with a winner. I was just stating the ridiculousness of anyone even asking him if he regretted the contract to begin with. There are a lot of people who should regret that contract, but Alfonso isn't one of them.
