  1. While you're here, is their any indication that anyone will be moved by the waiver deadline? In addition to Pena and Johnson, Grabow and DeWitt are both quite expendable. Will anyone want them? That's another question.
  2. If Dempster were to hit the open market, would he not be the 2nd best SP option behind C.J. Wilson?
  3. explain quoting your favorite chris rock comedy routine Whose more racist, white people or black people? Black people, cause everything white people hate about black people, black people reallly hate about black people.
  4. I agree about Marwin. To be honest, due to his age, and that he seems to have had a breakout offensive season I think someone would take him and unless he was compeltely awful keep him around as a backup SS, but due to our middle infield depth, it wouldn't be a massive loss unless he turned into Roberto Alomar, which isn't likely. Jay on the other hand, I know he hasn't been great the past 2 years, but he has shown flashes and he's only 23, and considering our lack of starting pitching depth, he's a guy I'd really like to see protected rather than cycle through another round of retreads, especially with Z likely gone, Demp after this year, and Randy Wells lack of consistancy.
  5. but if we're talking about the 3rd catcher on the depth chart, and we only have so many available spots on the 40 man, Clevenger is the guy I'd rather risk losing between him, Marwin, and Jackson. Soto and Castillo would be the top to Cs, and if absolutley needed, how much worse can Chris Robinson be than Koyie Hill? Remember, with a backup C, he'd be likely to play every 5th or 6th game and rarely used as a PH anyway. And I'd feel a lot better if you were to change "if" Koyie Hill is let go to "when" Koyie Hill is let go. If the organization loves the guy so much, offer him a minor league coaching gig assuming he can't latch on with another team.
  6. After last nights game, the E# is officially in the single digits. Go Cubs!
  7. What the hell is this crap? You know, like if a black guy cuts you off.
  8. So I'll assume a trade isn't happening. So now that he's been waived and pulled back, we can waive him again, but this time it would be irrevocable, does that sound about right?
  9. To be honest, I don't know how much of a must Steve Clevenger really is. Assuming that Geo is around for several years to come, Castillo can be the backup, and, Mike Brenley and Chris Robinson can have Iowa and Micah Gibbs Tennessee and see what happens with some of the catching prospects we drafted this year. Luis Flores was looking pretty good too until his little incident. The only way I'd put Clevenger as a must is if we were to trade Castillo.
  10. Great game from Jay Jackson too. 7 IP 1 ER 6 H 1/5 BB/K. I'd really like to see him get a few big league starts in September. However, thanks to John Gaub and Kyle Smit, things got real ugly, real fast for the I Cubs in the 8th.
  11. Wait, what? Can't Marlon Byrd or somebody that we're already paying "groom" Brett Jackson?
  12. Eh, but they also choose PBR over any other cheap beer. And if you are ever in a "hipster" bar you will find the PBR marked up over other cheap beer, and they choose it still. Also I have a totally different view of hipsters as far as being broke goes. Sure some might be legitimately broke, but others are "broke" even though their parents are paying their rent and they buy expensive Ray Bans to go with their thrift store shirt and designer jeans. So its a mixed bag. Anyways this is off topic and I should probably just start a thread in Rants. If I ever find myself in a true hipster bar, I assure you I won't stick around long enough to figure out what they're drinking. Bloody hipsters. Am I the only one who roots for Benny in Rent?
  13. Quade just plugs the replacement in wherever the regular would be.
  14. Why this guy of all people? Because he's minor league filler and they didn't want to jerk around any real prospects. Yeah, but don't we have our own organizational guys who would be better to reward than this flotsam?
  15. I copied this list from the 2012 Rule 5 thread. I figure at this point, there are different priorities than there were this time last year. I've underlined the must keeps, and bolded other guys I'd like to keep. It's a tough call with Rhee and Lake, as both are so young, but I'd just as soon not risk them. I've crossed out guys who no longer belong on the list for one reason or another. Jeffry Antigua Jeff Beliveau Michael Brenly Justin Bristow Kyler Burke David Cales Tony Campana-big league Chris Carpenter-big league Ryan Flaherty Marwin Gonzalez Jay Jackson Junior Lake Craig Muschko Blake Parker Dae Eun Rhee Rebel Ridling Aaron Shafer-gone Marquez Smith Luke Sommer Matt Spencer Tony Thomas-traded Josh Vitters Ty Wright Isn't Szczur also need to be added to the 40 man do to the weirdness in his revised contract? Of the remaining guys, Blake Parker and Marquez Smith are the only 2 I could see another team taking a chance on, although nobody pulled Smith last year when he was younger and coming off a better season. Maybe someone could take a flier out on Matt Spencer or Ty Wright. As for the 40 man roster, there are currently 2 open spots, andspots that should be opening up are: Lou Montanez Reed Johnson Koyie Hill Rodrigo Lopez Ramon Ortiz John Grabow Kerry Wood(unless re signed for cheap) Also, theres the Big situation, however that unfolds. A few others that could be opened up without losing too much sleep over losing the players are: John Maine Kyle Smit Justin Berg Esmailen Caridad take away 1 spot for adding Cashner back off the 60 day DL.
  16. Why this guy of all people?
  17. I really would like to see them do away with Lopez and give Jay Jackson a few big league starts despite his dreadful season. Keep in mind, he's Rule 5 eligible in the offseason, so they'll have to either put him on the 40 man or risk losing him, and I think somebody would pluck him and if nothing else, stash him at the end of their bullpen.
  18. There's a new one I see for $2.99 a sixer every time I walk into a Walgreens, but I can;t think of the name. I'm actually surprised that bums aren't flocking to it every time they manage to rack up $3 and change in nickels and dimes.
  19. While that's a more desirable list than mine, don't they usually favor guys who are already on the 40 man, which is why I chose Montanez and Maine? Also, they've already said that there's a good chance that LaHair gets a call up as a reward for his season, although I think that might have been Hendry who said it.
  20. I really don't think Johnson would clear waivers. I'm sure somebody will translate this as me saying we'll get a top prospect for him, but all I'm saying is as cheap as Reed is and as productive as he's been, he'd probably be plucked by one of the first NL contenders on the wire.
  21. Some combination of: Brett Jackson Lou Montanez Wellington Castillo Brian LaHair Scott Maine Justin Berg(if off DL) Chrs Carpenter(if off DL) D.J. LeMahieu John Gaub Brad Snyder Ryan Flaherty Marwin Gonzalez Jay Jackson I highly doubt that they call up more than 5-6 guys, so my moneys on LaHair, Jackson, Montanez, Castillo, LaMahieu, and Maine, and again, Berg and Carpenter if they're healthy. I'll be somewhat surprised if Johnson hasn't been moved by the deadline.
  22. Ever hear of Steel Reserve? If not, you're better off.
  23. IMHO, our biggest threat in the Fielder sweepstakes is our own organization. If they do decide to go that direction, I think he's ours. If not, then it will be on the new management and ownership, not whichever team does sign him.
  24. Rhee with a very nice outing. 6.1 IP, 1 ER 6 H 1/8 BB/K. Szczur 0-5 Watkins 2-5
