  1. Of course they do, and why would you still want them to trade Garza? If they don't plan on opening the check book in the next year or 2, we almost have to trade Garza as long as he'd bring back 3 guys who could help in the next 2 years. Again, that's if they don't plan on spending. Yeah, if they don't plan on spending on good players, our best course of action is to trade away our good players. [expletive] This is correct. If they don't spend, we don't have enough big league ready prospects who could make an impact or other trade chips to contend in the next 3 years or so, so may as well trade what few good players we have for players that could help us when we are ready to compete again.
  2. No, but it looks like he might have landed on Starlin Castro.

  4. I'm not one of those guys who's going to jump down other's throats for speaking(or typing) their minds, but you know damn well that's just a stupid thing to say. Yeah, it's just frustrating that it happens against the Astros, and with distinction... this isn't exactly the first of Garza's string of bad starts either It really is though. This was an exceptionally bad one, but it's only the 2nd in which he gave up more than 2 runs this season. The other was vs. the Marlins in which he went 5 innings and gave up 6 runs but struck also out 7.

  6. Oh hey, our best pitcher is getting his ass handed to him by a minor league team, so there's that.
  7. To this day I don't know why Walker, a career .289/.348/.435 hitter in 10+ years w.as drummed out of the league after a rough start to the 2007 season, especially in a world with no shortage of work for Aaron Miles.
  8. Shark::Raley=Sczcur::Sappelt. One has the potential to be a star, the other a serviceable role player.
  9. None for me thank you. I'm sure someone will pick him on the cheap as a "workhorse"/"innings eater".

  11. I prefer Cabrera a whole lot more as future closer. I prefer them and Hatley to all the retreads that occupy the bulk of the AAA pen.
  12. Speaking of promotions, what's the over/under on Cabrera, Rhoderick, and Hatley to Iowa. That pen is loaded with expendable junk ballers in their mid 30's.
  13. @ESPNChicago: Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum plans to make lineup changes http://t.co/yvMXnLCH I want to like Sveum, and have for the most part, but if he really thinks that the top 3 spots in the lineup have been the main problem, it could make it difficult.
  14. FTFY A 30 year old lefty power bat 1st baseman who in theory could play left, but it's not recommended. Last I checked, we already have him.
  15. He's pretty much to AA what Koyie Hill is to the big leagues. A backup catcher to keep around until his roster spot is needed for a better option.
  16. I don't know what you mean by " decent prospects" but no team is taking Soriano on, even for free, for two more years after this one, and give up anything that resembles value whatsoever. A team looking for an OF would probably rather get an actual upgrade, instead of Soriano. Yeah, the numbers you posted look decent, but that's him in his hot streak at this point. We can deal him, pay all his salary, and my honest guess is we wouldn't even get one guy back that would slide into our own top 30 lists. I'm talking a DeRosa package. 2 intriguing arms and a high ceiling A baller that's not quite on someone's top 10. I don't think it's unreasonable.
  17. This is argueably the most important series of the year. It's about fan pride, and in a season in which the best case scenerio is getting decent trade return in July, that means more than the standings. The Cardinals may by more our natural rival than the Sox, but while you might run into the occasional Cards fan here and there you run into Sox fans almost daily. I expect better in the next round, and then I don't care what these guys do the rest of the season.
  18. I just hope that when we go 5-4 vs. the Astros, Pirates, and Padres next week, we don't make with the maybe these guys aren't so bad after all talk.
  19. I can safely say that this has been the most embarrassing 3 game series for the Cubs and their fans since October of 2008.
  20. It's all I have and it's a nightmare Yeah, I think I'll go for a run soon and bring Pat and Keith with me. No CSN? No, no cable for me. Did we really just do a hit and run with LaHair on the bases and Soriano at the plate? I believe they call that move LaHitandrun.
  21. Was that last pitch to Soriano as far from te strike zone as Gameday made it appear?
  22. To anyone who was dying to know, Blake Lalli's replacement in Iowa is a 33 year old journeyman by the name of Brian Esposito who's the proud owner of a .216/.254/.304 slash line in 12 minor league seasons between 6 organizations. As a great man once said, "Where do they find them, and why do they keep sending them to me"?
  23. I mentioned this in another thread, but in May, Soriano's hitting .310/.365/.569 with 3 HR. I'm not sure what they mean by "odd man out", but he's showing that he can still be productive so if we were to pick up 90-95% of his salary, we could land 2-3 decent prospects. If nothing else something similar to the DeRosa package, which I'd take and run as fast I can at this point. Yankees, Rays, Indians, Tigers, Dodgers, Nats, and Philles are a few teams that I could see having interest at the right price.
  24. Don't look now, but in the month of May, Soriano's hitting .310/.365/.569 with 3 HR, and it's 2/3 through the month. That's not going to trick anyone into emptying out their farm system no matter how much salary we pick up, but he's proving that he can still be a productive player and if we were to pick up some 90-95% oh his salary we could get 2-3 decent prospects.
  25. Personally, I'd like to see if we could get something like Travis Snider or Michael Taylor for LaHair. Nobody is going to be fooled into giving up top prospects or young players for LaHair, but a guy who's team seems about done with them but for us could possibly be a LF solution would be a respectable return.
