  1. Totally reasonable. The Angels are reportedly looking for pitching. White Sox too, though they don't have anything of use.
  2. Better yet, announce a deal with the Dodgers, and when he's all psyched and ready to go, pull the plug on it at the last minute. That outta learn him.
  3. Even Slide Castro Slide? Sure, use 'ole WSR to take the heat off yourself.
  4. I think that with the Cubs willing to take on over 90% Of his salary, they're asking for something unreasonable in return. If not, I can't imagine them not being able to move him.
  5. Take away his 1st 2 starts, and Maholm is 8-4 with a 3.32 ERA and 26/65 BB/K in 97.2 IP. And that doesn't include today's gem. If we don't trade him, that 6.5 mil team option will be quite a value.
  6. Or maybe you're the one stomping his feet like a 6 year old on Christmas morning who didn't get the shiny new toy he had automatically felt he was getting because some guy told him so.
  7. And the Nationals were waiting in the grassy knoll. Good God. Dempster will be traded. Maybe it will be to LA for Gould tomorrow. Maybe it will be for Delgado this weekend. Maybe it will be to another team all together for a guy we woudln't even think of Tuesday afternoon. When August 1st rolls around, Ryan Dempster will not be a Cub, and the general population will be satisfied with the return. That's why we put together the front office that we did.
  8. Yeah, shocking stuff. Feared that from the moment this started to drag out. The upside is that Demp has been really good and the Cubs are probably willing to eat the remainder of his salary. The other upiside is that their are only three available pitchers who would be better or comparable to Dempster, each of which would be far more costly than Dempster, in terms of prospects.
  9. Obligatory show up on Dempster's doorstep with a forehead needle full of heroin post, although I still don't get the reference.
  10. If Dempster is creating a situation where the Dodgers are the only bidders for his services, I don't see why they would give up Eovaldi ... or much of anything, for that matter. Because if it comes down to it, we could just offer him arby and get anoother year of him or the comp pick (s) rather than saying gee Ned, thanks for Juan Uribe and that bag of balls. Assuming that Garza's soreness is just that, and I'm sure that there're medical records readily available, I wonder if they have something on the backburner with the Braves for Garza if this falls through. Kind of coincidental that at the same time as the Dempster deal was buzzing, there was talk that Garza for Lee was also in talks, which evaporated pretty much the minute the Dempster deal hit that snag.
  11. Shortly means August 20th. He's reportedly a Canadian defector and must first establish residency in the Dominican Republic before any trade can be made official.
  12. Could it be that he's not so much blocking the trade but asking our guys to give the Dodgers a chance to match the offer, and if not, he'll accept? He's known a trade was very likely for weeks, and I can't imagine him flat out [expletive] us over by handing the Dodgers all the leverage on a silver platter. If I were the Braves, I'd be annoyed but the fact is that Greinke and Garza both need a few starts to prove their health and even if Hamels isn't extended he'll be a hell of a lot more costly than Demp. There's really nothing else comparable on the market.
  13. Agreed. Maybe it's because I have seen maybe 1 Mariners game in the last 5 years and they are never interviewing Ichiro for anything anymore, but he looks so different than what I was remembering. I was thinking that same thing. Granted, he looks old but I don't think I've really seen a picture of him in years.
  14. allegedly the pirates are looking at billy butler, if that falls through, could lahair be on their radar? Maybe in the same sense that if Matt Garza falls through for the Dodgers, Casey Coleman could be on their radar?
  15. The fact that he snuck in the word "official" suggests that it's very close. Or else it's just a dig at those who reported it long before it was official.
  16. Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood were both approached about accepting trades, and each declined. Disappointing, but that's just how it works. Dempster supposedly said he would accept a trade, with the Braves as choice 2 behind the Dodgers. If he blocks it, which I still don't think he will, not only is it not cool but it pretty much suggests that he either won't accept a trade period, or only one to the Dodgers, giving them a [expletive] load of leverage. Of course if it's all about the move to a city, Chicago does have another team, one in contention no less. Too bad they don't possess anything resembling a prospect.
  17. I think it's reasonable to assume that a FO consisting of Jed and Theo talked to Ryan prior to beginning any trade discussions. Even if they didn't discuss this particular trade at this particular time there have been rumors flying everywhere, so he must have been pretty well aware that sometime between now and the 31st something was going to go down. He knew that The Dodgers and Braves were front runners. How much of a difference could it make whether it was yesterday or 8 days later? He's said multiple times the past few weeks that he knows how this stuff works and expects to be traded.
  18. Blindsided? He's been on the block for over a month. This was his 2nd choice. Just 3-4 days ago a trade with The Dodgers was supposedly near completion. How much less blindsided could he have possibly been?
  19. http://col.stb01.s-msn.com/i/46/241791594C122F77CF3C3D474D637.jpg Havnt seen it yet. But it is odd seeing him in a different uni.
  20. You HONESTLY think that one of those guys would be the difference between the Braves giving up Delgado and not? Minor league filler? The difference between the Braves giving up Delgado is Dempster. That's what they want. That's the big piece. However, he's obviously a 2 month rental, and if they feel that he won't sign an extension, they may simply want a little something else thrown in. Unless they throw in something else to balance it out, it certainly shouldn't be one of our top prospects. One of our veterans plus a fringe prospect should suffice. And there's a difference between minor league filler and fringe prospects. I'm not suggesting that we send them James Adduci and Justin Berg.
  21. http://forums.prosportsdaily.com/showthread.php?p=23070391#post23070391 Total random prediction: Maybe this is where we move Brett Jackson to help get a young pitcher, as we were rumored to want to do last winter. If we're talking about the Braves, they've been seeking a replacement for Chipper, so Vitters could make more sense. While I'm a believer in Vitters, a lot of people are not and depending on what he could add to our return, it could be viewed as selling high. If that happened, we could then try and work a Garza/Olt deal.
  22. No, Reed Johnson would not be holding them up. However, settling on a prospect could. Assuming that Dempster has approved the trade but not the extension part they could be discussing prospects to close the deal. Won't be a top 10-15 but won't be a Rebel Ridling or Casey Coleman type either. My guess is something along the lines of a Brooks Raley, Dallas Beeler, Erik Jokisch, Logan Watkins, Arismendy Alcantara type. And if they end up with more of a prospect than our side planned to give up, then our side could be asking for an upgrade as our extra piece.
  23. If teams are interested in LaHair, but not Soriano with 90+% of his salary covered, we must be asking for way to much in return for Soriano.
  24. http://forums.prosportsdaily.com/showthread.php?p=23070391#post23070391 if it really was about Atlanta wanting to give an extension, and him not wanting to they could have settled it by throwing in Baker or Johnson and a fringe prospect, with us still getting something to offset money.
