  1. To step away from the ledge for a moment, assuming that this deal happens, I'm wondering if Vizcaino becomes an option for closer.
  2. Assuming that the Haren deal goes down, Dempster on a team friendly contract becomes all the more appealing. Garza-Haren-Demp-Shark-Wood would be a very nice short term rotation.
  3. Must every Cubs trade rumor play out like the end of a Friday the 13th movie?
  4. Any interest in Nyjer Morgan and his multiple personality disorder? He always seems to be great his first season with a new team.
  5. What does make sense is if it's due mostly to Sisk not having any existing big league service time.
  6. We're looking for two quality starting pitchers. If Demp wants to come back on something along the lines of a 2/20something deal, I'd take it over Marcum, McCarthy, or Jackson on a 5/60something deal. However the fans respond, if he pitches well, I'm sure they'll get over it.
  7. I wonder if the Cubs were requiring the Angels pay more of Santana's salary than what the Royals were? My thoughts exactly. The Angels actually end up paying the same $ amount they would have if they'd declined the option. The reliever is basically gravy. The Angels only end up paying 1MM of the salary, which was the same as Santana's buyout. 12MM is pretty steep for a reclamation, and I can't imagine that Theo would have been willing to take on that much for him. Haren's a different story. He's owed 15.5MM with a 3.5MM buyout. Perhaps we could swing a similar deal in which we end up paying around 12MM for him plus someone like Russell.
  8. Yeah, I thought I read that KC was only sending the Angels $1MM. Didn't realize that Santana's option was that much either. $12MM is a lot for Ervin Santana when you're the Kansas City Royals. I'd still take the one year $15MM risk on Haren though.
  9. I don't know about anything else, but I'd have happily sent the Angels $1MM+one of our junk relief prospect for Santana.
  10. Cubs fans were blowing up Twitter about this so much that you'd think that people actually cared about the Gold Glove. Until I saw the Tweets this morning, I didn't even know that the Gold Glove Award Show was a thing. Apparently this guy did
  11. If we could fill it with someone like Price or Bauer, that would be great. The FA options will likely be overpriced due to the market, so if it came down to it, would would rather fill that 5th spot with Santana or something along the lines of Socolovich or Germano?
  12. If cash is the main return for the Angels, why not? I'll take both Haren and Santana for the right price. If our offseason is going to consist primarily of reclamations, may as well aim high. If they'll take cash and scraps, go for it. Garza/Shark/Haren/Wood/Santana could end up quite a formidable rotation. If not, it all comes off the books after 2013. Even if Haren or Santana end up a solid 3-4 starter and we tank again, they could net us a quality prospect or two in the summer.
  13. The thing about the Melky 1 year deal is that a lot of teams would likely take him up on it, and the ready made contender would be more attractive to him assuming that there were multiple, similar offers on the table. Another thing about Melky is that it's going to be a rough go for him as far as the fans go. If he gets off to a slow start, he's going to hear about it more so than your average player. One thing that he, or at least his agent could take into consideration is avoiding teams with fans that can be extra tough on players, the Cubs being one such.
  14. While we're on the subject of medium risk/huge reward acquisitions, would anyone be terribly opposed to Jason Bay, assuming that the Mets were willing to move as a salary dump? He's owed $17 MM for 2013 with a vesting option for 2014. If the Mets would trade him for 50-60% salary relief and a some combination of fringe prospects/big league scraps, would he be worth the risk? Even if he puts up another sub .600 OPS, the 8-10 MM isn't going to hurt, and the market isn't exactly loaded with sensible options for a team in our situation.
  15. At least he won't be in jail, which helps his cause.
  16. As long as we're still still dumpster diving, it may as well be for former 1st rounders.
  17. Somebody might hire Guillen for something, but I'm guessing that Major League Baseball has seen the last of Bobby V.
  18. May as well have something entertaining next season.
  19. They're ready for you Anubis. Now send them back from whence they came.
  20. It's been a good year for the over paid alumni of the 2006-2007 free agent class.
  21. Time to wrap this thing up and cut to the part where the camera pans over the sad faces of the Cardinals.
  22. Personally, I agree, but people were suggestion a "Gio Gonzalez" like package for Reddick.
  23. Did they really call in a loogy for Daniel [expletive] DeScalso with an 8 run lead and 2 out?
