  1. If giving up three legit prospects plus two quality big leaguers for Reddick, 21 year old damaged goods, and one time top prospect who would have been traded by now if he really had any significant value, I guess we won't be getting Reddick without giving up Baez, Almora, and Soler, each of whom I'd just as soon keep and try our luck on the free agent market.
  2. If it gets [expletive] on, so it gets [expletive] on: A's get: -Barney -Vogelbach -Marmol: Cubs eat 75% salary -1 of: Szczur/Jackson/Lake -1 of: Alcantara/Amaya/Hernandez/Villanueva/Candelario -Hayden Simpson (throw in) Cubs get Reddick Ian Krol: high ceiling with Hx injury, douchebagery. Michael Taylor ( reclamation)
  3. They wouldn't move them to get rid of an OF, it would be for the sake of the return. Crisp would bring back nothing of value. I can't see Cespedes moving, but Reddick is very possible. In addition to Cespedes, Young, Reddick, and Crisp, they have Seth Smith, and Michael Choice might not be too far away. There's also Michael Taylor if they havnt yet given up on him. With Pennington gone, I'm not sure who they have in mind for SS, so Darwin Barney could be a piece of the package, and I'll stress just a piece. Vogelbach could be as well. I'd love to put together something big for Reddick and one of the As young pitchers.
  4. ARod for Soriano with each team paying off the contract of the guy already on their team. Yankees fans are up in arms about ARod. They hate him. More than I've ever seen. Would Hank pay 119 mill to make him go away? That's a ton of money to send inside of 18 months. Well he's going to be a replacement player in like 3 months, so... That and the fact that he's already 37. If the Yankees are to eat a huge chunk of that, it will require something big in return. I can't think of any contract for contract swap that would be in any way beneficial for the other team.
  5. It's really no surprise, regardless of the team they plan on fielding for 2013. Attendence has been gradually dwindeling along with the qulity of the team on the field. While a good deal of the empty seats were already paid for, empty seats don't but overpriced concessions, and that's a lot of lost revenue right there. Ensuring that those seats are not only paid for but filled is a priority of the Chicago Cubs as a business, which extends well beyond baseball operations. Remember that Crane Kenney guy that everyone hated around this time last year? This is his department. Building a baseball team is Theo, Jed & Co. The payroll may very well not break $100MM, but that would likley be the case regardless of this developement.
  6. Like when he Bucknered the Cards out of the playoffs in '09? Memories.
  7. I was starting to wonder if that was to be swept under the rug along with whatever compensation we may or may not owe the Padres for Hoyer. Wasn't Baker with the Tigers for like 2 weeks? Any fully functioning biped we get in return would be a win.
  8. We had a 3-WAR projection out of CF and nothing out of 1b. Now we have a 3.5 WAR projection out of 1b and nothing out of CF. But you couldn't project 3 WAR from CF going forward, and Jackson was already a hit or miss proposition. It's not like CF being an issue was a shocking new development. It was already an issue. Byrd going (further) to [expletive] and Jackson busting were clear possibilities going in. Why are we already declaring Jackson a bust? When he was called up, it was clear that he was going to struggle. He's 24, and still has time to learn even if he starts the season in AAA or as a platoon mate with Sappelt. 3B is another spot that should be a big X-factor. I think Stewart's due 1.5 via arb, and there's no reason not to pick that up. There really arent any options, and I'd love to give him another chance to prove that he can be at least a league average 3B following the wrist surgery. Have Vitters starting off at AAA and Valbuena on the bench as a backup.
  9. This. I just hope that while Cubs fans kvetch about everything that the Cardinals do, our front office is figuring out how to replicate their success, and for that matter, that of the A's. Once they've produced enough star or at least everyday players that way, then they can start breaking out the checkbook to fill the remaining needs. If we wanted to sign Prince Fielder, CJ Wilson, and Aramis Ramirez, we may as well have let Hendry stick around another year.
  10. Can't wait until the current Cardinals all disperse via huge contracts and become huge busts for their respective teams as the Cardinals assemble another World Series team using guys nobody had heard of 6 months prior.
  11. Yeah, you don't know what you're talking about. WSR ignorantly talking out of his ass? Inconceivable. This ass talking ignoramus is dying to hear your David Wright package which doesn't include any of our core prospects, keeping in mind that if he were available, even under the conditions mentioned by Davell, plenty of teams closer to contention would have the same idea.
  12. My in laws are cardinal fans. They buy my kids cardinal stuff. It gets donated after we open it. You're a saint. I'd probably burn it, or give it to my dog. Animal cruelty will not be tolerated on this board.
  13. I don't know about dying. The entire team testing positive for PEDs and being banned from post season play for the next 5 years would suffice. The worst thing: if the Cardinals win the World Series, and if the Mayans have their way, the Cardinals will be World Champions for all eternity.
  14. Seriously though, how do the Cards do this? How much is luck vs. developement? You see the Rays, Brewers, and Reds bring up players from within in bunches over the past few years, but they're primarily top prospects, many were high draft picks. The Cardinals pull these guys out of nowhere. I'm not even talking about Kozma and Descalso who happened to come up with some big hits. I'm talking Craig, Jay, Carpenter. David Freese, for example may have been a PTBNL for the remains of Jim Edmonds, but it's obvious that they say him as a guy they could really develope.Perhaps if we're looking to pillage other teams FOs, here's where we should be looking at the Cardinals scouting department and player developement..
  15. Next year they'll have Miller, Tavares, and some no name they'll acquire as a PTBNL for Skip Schumaker in the fall that will go on to OPS 1.250. To hell with hiring all of these Assistant-Assistant GMs. We need to capture the demon that's been powering the Cardinals all these years.
  16. LOL Daniel De [expletive] scalso.
  17. So now Gio implodes vs. the bowels of the Cardinals lineup?
  18. Those non-Baez whatevers better include Soler, Almora, and Maples. Then you hang up on them. Exactly. Beyond that and Castro or Rizzo, we'd have no chance at competing in a trade market for David Wright if he were available.
  19. Those non-Baez whatevers better include Soler, Almora, and Maples.
  20. If the Nationals do end up getting knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round, I have to wonder if Rizzo and Johnson will spend the offseason recieiving more criticism over the decision to shut down Strasburg than praise for the greatest season in franchise history. We'll never know if it would have made a difference, but it will always be hanging over their heads all winter, maybe more, especially if The Nats never make it back to the post season between now and 2017 when the Yankees sign Strasburg to baseball's first billion dollar contract. They still have that rotation of Strasburg-Gio-Zimmerman through 2016, but you never know what can happen.
  21. ugga. Really? Why? He'll turn 24 so he won't be that young, but he's only got 1000 professional PA of largely uninspiring performance. If he's got a chance to be a 4th OF why not just wait until 2014 at least so you get the entirety of his prime at dirt cheap prices without the worry of theoretically wasting his performance in the minors (like some may say they did with Rizzo). Much of what the new regime has stressed is player develpement, which I'll assume hinges strongly on not rushing guys who arent quite ready. If Szczur were to be called up at some point this season, my guess is that he'd become a right handed Sam Fuld, and we already have Sappelt, who's a better, right handed Sam Fuld. This isn't to say that he could not continue to develope, but certainly not worth the ticking clock.
  22. http://www.bryantdai...all.aspx?page=5 Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but it's from the day Ben Wells signed and states in a nut shell that we can add Wells to Soler, Szczur, and Concepcion on the list of guys with little to no chance of seeing the big leagues to the 2013 40 man roster. LInk not working, but from Bleacher Nation, and confirmed by Arizona Phil per the poster:
  23. Between Kozma, Jay, Freese, Craig, Carpenter, Lynn, and Garcia, there's 1 appearance in a Top 100 prospects list, which belongs to Garcia when he came in at number 70 in 2007. They currently have 4 guys in the top 50. (Tavares, Miller, Martinez, Wong,) so I really hope Theo and Co.keep racking up top shelfers in the next few years.
  24. I've thought the Royals to be the ideal trade candidate for quite a while. They've sated that they're looking for help for the rotation, but simply don't have the money to outbid the big market guys for the free agents. Perhaps they could land on of Marcum, Sanchez, McCarthy, or Jackson, but they'd still have a very weak rotation. Garza would be a great fit. I wouldn't expect them to part with Odorizzi for 1 year of Garza, especially with his stock being hit by the injury. However, a deal for Montgomery or Lamb, Jeffress and perhaps Cain should be swingable, assuming that we're set on trading Garza.
