  1. Shark: $"@&@ @&"$& &@"!& Theo: so. Um. Would this be a bad time to. Um. Discuss an. Um. Extension? Shark: $&"@! &$"!? &$!? Theo: yeah. Maybe tomorrow would be better
  2. And over the past 2 games, Cubs hitters have 2/20 BB/K. There must be somebody in the organization that recognizes this as a bigger problem than a few bum relievers who will be gone next season if not sooner. Isn't there somebody whose job it is to, I don't know, coach the hitters?
  3. The Castro-Rizzo connection is making me very sad lately.
  4. Good question. I'll take the less popular of the two, in Geiger. He's younger than Rock, has a lesser K rate and is playing at the higher level. So what is Rock's ceiling? He was fairly well touted when he was drafted, and a lot of people were very pleased when he signed. Could he be at least, say Russ Branyan or Carlos Pena with the bat?
  5. Hmm, I wonder if that's a we made the wrong move and now we have to save face type of injury and they bring back Bowden or if they just bring in the guy from the Cards.
  6. Yeah. He hasn't pitched since the 14th, so I'm not sure what they were saving him for. Meanwhile, they still had 3 competent guys in Russell, Fujikawa, and Gregg for the end game. The 6th inning with a 3 run lead is exactly when you bring in a guy like Villanueva who can give you multiple innings if needed. There was no reason to go with the dregs at that point. But the bigger offense was Dale again using his best overall reliever as a LOOGY.
  7. To me, it's more about the nature of the situation. Epstein's been preaching the youth movement from day one. With this in mind, when choosing between two guys who fill similar roles, the younger one who could contribute long term should be a no brainer. As for Bowden himself, there are several guys between AA-AAA who could step in and offer what he does, so it's more the principle of the matter than fretting about Bowden. If we do hang on to Bowden, maybe we should give him a look as a starter in AAA. Weren't they thinking about it in the offseason?
  8. Is 27 innings enough to warrant a promotion? Admittedly, I don't know much about the guy. He's got 60 total innings at A+ now, including last year in the Red Sox organization. He is 24 already and has over 500 pro innings, including 400 across the three A ball levels. And he missed all of 2011 to injury, which is probably why he's still in A+
  9. Does the manager have some degree of impact on these decisions? I'd have to assume that he's at least consulted. I know Lou did.
  10. Granted, Shawn Camp and Hector Rondon were largely responsible for taking a big, steaming [expletive] in Cubs fans and Matt Garza's cornflakes last night, but the 1/9 BB/K from Cubs hitters is far more disturbing. Camp can be cut anytime, and if nothing else, he'll be gone next season. The pen can be revamped if necessary. However the lack of plate discipline is something that plagues the entire organization from top to bottom.
  11. Because he's not good. So he's a perfect fit for the Cubs pen.
  12. So that would be 1 BB/9 K for Cubs hitters, 6 BB/5 K for Pirates hitters. Pretty much sums it up.
  13. Bowden was bad, and Gregg is probably bad but hasn't had enough innings to show it. But we'll probably see the fellow we claimed from the Cards pretty soon.
  14. Because Russel is just a LOOGY. Duh. And to be honestl, I don't even remember if he faced a righty or lefty. It seems like too long ago.
  15. That was just the bullpen's way of saying welcome back.
  16. Shawn Camp has officially wore out his welcome.
  17. 23 years old, nice K rates up until 2012 anyway, and was really good for the Cards 2 years ago. Sure, why not.
  18. For what it's worth, Brooks Raley was pulled for a pinch hitter after 3 IP and 45 pitches.
  19. FWIW, weather app says between 12-2 there's a 40-50% chance of rain and then nothing until 9 when it's 30%.
  20. Almora. Vogelbach. Shoulders. Candelerio. Contreres. Amaya. Hernandez. Johnson. Maples. Pena. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Too bad they're off today.
  21. I actually found that ridiculously comforting.
  22. Kyle is like magic. But all magic comes with a price. :(
  23. They should start giving Geiger as much time at 3rd as humanly possible. The more time he spends at first, the closer he gets to becoming Greg Rohan.
  24. 2 DL stints. Knee I think. The problem with the minor leagues is that when guys get hurt it's not really announced. It just happens.
  25. Any chance that Dunston or Baez make their way to Kane County or will they start at Boise? And where is Michael Jensen? No - Albert Almora should be coming up in a week and plugging the hole in CF. Jensen must be too hurt to get into live games. @CCHodgy: Good luck to my boy @albertalmora movin on up to Kane county!!! #cubs While Daytona still has the best 1-2 punch, Kane County is officially stacked when it comes to depth.
