  1. If it means that Baez, Bryant, and Soler are already tearing through the big leagues, I'll take it. And you're leaving out the 2-3 top 50 guys some sucker forks over for Hammel and a pile of scraps.
  2. Is he someone worth knowing, or just a guy?
  3. My guess is that his time on the 40 man is borrowed. Beyond that, if nobody claims him, may as well let him play roster filler until somebody at a lower level forces him out.
  4. Either you have no idea what eminent means or you just answered the second half of your own question. And no, none of it is noteworthy. No one is going to pay any mind to Vitters unless he shows that he can field at all and hit at the next level (except for Kyle), and Jackson has been residing in the toilet for a while. With Vitters, his primary issue last was injury more than hitting and even fielding. With Jackson, it must have been an I-Phone autocorrect fail for inevitable, the question being if everyone has completely moved on from him.
  5. Are Josh Vitters early success and Brett Jackson's eminent demise considered noteworthy anymore?
  6. If he were several shades whiter and named Chris or Steve, you probably couldn't walk outside a Wrigleyville bar without being impaled on a Bonafaciorection right about now.
  7. Sounds like a proverbial bitch slap.
  8. Remember when this card was worth $2.00? http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5NufyMo4N2I/SVMFpkOo82I/AAAAAAAAADs/cJw8vJY-nXY/s320/ben%2Bmcdonald%2Brookie%2Bcard.JPG My only memory of Ben McDonald is the Upper Deck error card.
  9. Not a bad flier, and if we can catch lightening in a bottle for a few months, someone could fork over a few lottery tickets or a reclamation.
  10. My basis is not only Soler's "monster tools" if he can stay healthy, but an irrational mistrust of late round picks.
  11. Literal Translation: Japanese stars prefer big market teams. Arguably the third biggest U.S. city might not be a big enough market THE CARDINALS!!! The Japanese desire success unlike lazy Americans and our cooked fish and large breasted women. Should the Cubs bother spending big on a potential ace if his W/L does not reflect his peripherals and the Cubs might be bad anyway? We don't care about W/L as stat for pitchers, but in other countries, it equals bragging rights.
  12. If the season started today, I can't say that I wouldn't like the pitching; Shark Jackson Wood Villanueva Arrieta/Vizcaino?/Grimm Veres Vizcaino? Strop Wright Russell Fujikawa Cabrera/Rosscup
  13. In related news, Matt Garza just pumped his fist.
  14. Maybe I'm completely off here, but wouldn't Detroits return for Fister be the equivalent of Kyle Hendricks, Logan Watkins, and maybe Ben Wells or Zach Cates? If we're trying to get >W's with <$, Fister would have been a sweet acquisition at that price.
  15. Cubs should be able to move Nate Schierholtz for a nice package if the going rate for a corner outfielder, who can hit more than 20 HRs is $18.75M per year. What will Nate earn - $4M? $5M? Nelson Cruz is 33, coming off a suspension, and slightly more likely to get 18.75 MM/year than I am, so I'm not sure I'd call it the going rate.
  16. Unless he's traded soon, this could be a wilder winter roller coaster than Roberts, Peavy, and Garza. You're right, there's been a whole 3 pages on a dying message board about this...it's going to surpass those behemoths in no time. Im referring to the situation, the potential impact on the franchise, and fan base reactions. You're thinking in terms of a message board at a time when fans are nowhere near as enthusiastic as they were between the pre 2008-2009 offseasons or as hopeful for a quick-ish turnaround as pre-2012.
  17. I just heard of the JJ signing. I'd have loved him at that price, but I could also see him preferring the Padres even if there were multiple 1 year offers with higher salary on the table. Great gamble for both sides. He's going to be 30 by opening day, so a big season could land him a 3-4 year deal next winter and the Padres a big haul in the Summer.
  18. Looks like the first round of confirmations and retractions could be rolling in by Thanksgiving.
  19. Unless he's traded soon, this could be a wilder winter roller coaster than Roberts, Peavy, and Garza.
  20. I'm not worried. The way I see it, if he is eligible, he'll be protected. No way they'll let the deadline (midnight?) pass without certainty and risk leaving him unprotected.
  21. Hernandez and Amaya were barely A ready. Maybe some team with a pick burning a hole in their pocket picks one for a short audition, but they'd be home well before Easter. Alcantara is a given. Other than that, I'm more interested in the incoming side of the Rule 5. Anyone worth thinking about?
  22. Didn't realise quite how awful Gamel was at 3rd. Hadn't heard about Vitters being offically name a LF either; I thought he'd been making progress at 3rd. I still like the idea of stocking up on boom or busts, regardless of the likelyhood, or lack there of of them booming.
  23. If by big league ready depth, we're talking bridges to Baez or Bryant that could potentially offer big payoffs in what's likely to be another season focused more upon building than anything else, I'm not sure why anyone would take issue with the terminology. I'd certainly rather cycle through them than another round of Lillibridges and Murphys. But what do I know.
  24. What's great about fliers is that you can take out as many as you want and they don't take up much space, and you can toss them as you please. But I'd love it if he were to have a breakout season and cause Brewer's fans to flip out for two years. Lot of interesting big league ready 3B depth between Olt, Gamel, and Vitters.
