  1. Definites Soto Patterson Fox Hill Ohman Pignietello Cherry Cedeno Moore Likely Gallagher Hart Petrick Cotts Possible Kroeger Craig Walrond Mathes Dont bet on it, but not out of the question Colvin Samardzjia Holliman Can they even take guys who arent on the 40 man?
  2. Im not talking CY Young, Im not talking Rolaids relief(which he deserves), Im talking MVP. MVP traditionally doesnt need to be the best player in the game, just the guy the team cant do without. Marmols a guy that if it werent for him, with the BP inconsistancy the Cubs would NOT be where they are. Now I know, Jacque Jones has had a great 2nd half, but Marmols done it all season while the likes of Howry, Eyre, Ohman, and Wuertz were taking turns blowing leads or letting close games get out of reach. I woudlnt expect him to win it, especially with Fielder and Pujols likely battling it out, but does anyone think he might get a vote or 2 thrown his way?
  3. With Soto on the fast track and Blanco with a year left, Kendall may be the odd man out, especially with his defensively skills clearly lacking and Sotos un proven, the Cubs will need to keep Blanco around for defense,.
  4. I go with Ryan Braun out of jealousy alone. The Cubs havnt produced a major offensive prospect out of their farm since Mark Grace 20 years ago, and The Brewers seem to strike gold with everyone they bring up. Brauns having the best rookie season since Ryan Braun and the best we have is Theriot who I love, but doesnt come close.
  5. The correct move would have been not to hit poor little Ricky Weeks for the 37th time. As for the call, Its a toss up. Fielder had been held homerless and relatively quiet aside from that double off of Z last night, and while you could argue that Hart has been a lot better this series, you can also argue that Fielder was due to hit a 3 run jack. You really cant say. If Fielder did homer or double in a few runs, Lou would be criticized for not walking him. If Hart had doubled in a few, Lou would have been criticized for loading the bases for the guy who had done the most damage to the Cubs this series. It happened how it happened, and nobody can say this series didnt live up to the hype. Like every great thriller the bad guy has to get up again for one last scare.
  6. what does "swing like a clean-up spot" even mean? I want all of my hitters trying to hit the ball hard somewhere, I hope you're not implying leadoff hitters should be slap hitters. We tried that already, it didn't work so well. I would hope youd know the difference between the job of a leadoff man and a clean up hitter.
  7. Wanna pin point the problem with Soriano-Here gos. He wants to have his cake and eat it to. he wants to bat in the leadoff spot, however, he wants to swing like a clean up spot. Even he cant figure himself out.
  8. Lets send them Soriano and Zambrano as well. You know, to help them in the playoffs.
  9. We're clearly not dealing with the same Soriano here. Remember, a good chunk of that 52-44 was in early summer when everyone was clicking. Soriano admited he isnt at 100% and wont be able to do much base stealing or legging singles into doubles or doubles into triples. Theriot, on the other hand has gotten 2 infield singles(I dont care what the scorers say, that one off Linebrink was an infield single) the past 2 games. Thats what leadoff hitters do. Not swing at everything in site. You need production from your leadoff and clean up hitters, and weve got none of that the past few games. Tuesday, the rest of the team was able to pick up the slack. last night, not so much.
  10. If the Cubs couldnt give Corey Patterson a massive contract, they did the next best thing. I always thought Carlos Lee would have been a better fit for the team. An big time RBI guy rather than an overrated "5 tool player" whose holding the team back by keeping the proper leadoff man out of the leadoff spot. Theriot Jones D Lee C Lee Ram DeRosa Floyd Kendall P Now that looks like a good linup.
  11. I bet Carl Pavano, Pedro Martinez, Jason Schmidt, and Barry Zitos teams felt the same way.
  12. After all the money they've put into Prior, they NEED to get him for at least one more year. Otherwise, its like restoring a '55 Mustang and then leaving it on the side of the road with a FREE sign on the windshield. Either A. he becomes the ace we hoped hed be B. He becomes a serviceable starter C. He tanks, and spends the next few seasons signing minor league deals with spring training invites with various teams.
  13. Unfortunately, the Cubs end up in a lot of close games, and the only reliever the Cubs can count on are Marmol and Howry. If were up or down 8-2, sure, bring on Kerry Wood, Scott Eyre, or Mike Wuertz, but most of our games have been 1-3 run games, and when your in the position the Cubs are in, they cant afford to put in some hack who can blow the game at moments notice. Pignietello has potential, but we havnt had enough blowout games lately in which the kid can get some reps. Eyre is inconsistant at best. Same with Wood, only half the time I expect his arm to come flying off with the ball. As for Wuertz, it seems that its the same story every year. He shuts opponents down with his slider the first few months of the season, then they all remember hes a one trick poney and knock him around until hes mercifully pulled. And then theres Novoa who Im more than content with the fact that we'll probably never see his ugly mug again.
  14. A Red Sox meltdown would be much bigger. Nobody expected the Brewers to get off to the start they did, and haf the baseball world expected them to colapse though, not to the extent that they did. The Red Sox have basically turned themselves into the Yankees in that they basically fill all there holes with cash, only they actually have a pitching staff.
  15. With the Cards playing th DisAstros, theres a pretty good chance that whoever looses this series will end up in 3rd. All you have to do with the Brewers is keep them down for the first few innings. Everyone knows that they go limp after the 5th.
  16. Sad, sad post. Yes, yours is. In all seriousness though, that was a horrible call. You don't try and steal third base when you're down a run in the 9th inning. Ever. It was only "horrible" because it didn't work. If he doesn't send them and Kendall GIDPs all you second guessers would be ripping him for that too. Jesus. Um, no. It was horrible because of not only where in the game it happened, but because of the significance of the game. Im not criticizing the attempted bunt. Its the attempted steal. With Fontenot and Pies speed, and Theriot geting walked, Jones ground out that ended the game could have ended up tying it and brought up Lee and Ramirez. Maybe we would have tied and lost in the 9th, o maybe wed have ended up with a huge inning, but one things for sure, that fat piece of trash closer whats his face wouldnt have had the opportunity to jump up and down like a jack ass and acted like hed just saved game 7 of the WS. Im telling you one thing, had this been a 4 game set, hed have gotten on of his team mates plunked in the first inning of tommorows game.
  17. I wouldnt call Lou the worst manager ever, but that little 9th inning stunt may have been his worst call of the season. Id elaborate, but anyone who wathced the game knows exactly what Im talking about.
  18. The Dodgers DFAd him to make room fo Boomer. Yes, Im well aware that hes a mediocre pitcher and his entir career has been a huge dissapointment. Yes, Im well aware that Hill, Marquis, and Marshall are all coming off multiple steller performances. Im also, however aware that any of those 3 as well as Lilly can crash and burn at a moments notice, and Tomko could be a respectable insurance policy in case one of them does crash or get injured.
  19. If his last name aint Griffey or Dunn, I aint interested.
  20. Pretty solid AAA player DFAd. Any story behind this? Is he to be the Craig Monroe PTBNL? I was hoping theyd take Ohman or Cotts off our hands.
  21. His average is dismal at best, but his 11 Homers are more than th Cubs RF platoon of Floyd, Ward, and Murton combined, and he has more RBI than all Cubs accept for Ramirez, Lee, and DeRosa suggesting he must be pretty good in the clutch.
  22. Please. I remember that game when Koyie Hill got a few big hits and the short lived Koyie Hill Bandwagon was formed. I think we all remember how that turned out.
  23. Its not so much the Brewers going against Webb as us missing him that makes me happy. Hes quickly joining Santana and Peavy, and possibly Chris Young in a few years in the exclusive group of pitchers Id take over Zambrano.
  24. Because they're trying to pad their stats so when their contract year comes they can score obscene contracts from the Mets, Yankees, and Red Sox.
