  1. they brought back Kruger again?
  2. are there even any free agents still worth signing?
  3. One of the Misty-May Treanor / Kerri Walsh combo had children before winning one of their Olympic gold
  4. But they already have to do that at least once next week. W/O Chatwood you need 2.
  5. They are seeing 13 games in 12 days following the ASB and only 4 other credible starters on the roster, and one of those starters is starting to wear down. They don't have much of a choice, considering they already have to pull a name out of a hat in a week.
  6. Hendricks is pitching Saturday so normal rest would put him at the Thursday start. If they stick with that then Lester would be in line for Friday. But that would leave Quintana on 10 days rest for one of the Saturday DH and then Montgomery and/or Chatwood in the other game. My guess is they don't want either of those guys pitching in the doubleheader, since they are bound to get pulled early and tax the bullpen in at least one game. Then Monday the 23rd becomes an issue, since none of the current 5 would be on normal rest. Maybe they come back from the break with Quintana and Montgomery each coming off 8 days rest, then let Hendricks and Lester handle the DH with the hopes of saving the bullpen. Then it is all hands on deck for the Sunday game. They have to be ready to dial back Montgomery's innings. Maybe they'd be better off using Chatwood/Montgomery as a piggyback situation and calling up Underwood. Then again, we could be due for a Casey Coleman "take one for the team" start in this series. Anyway, this is a long way of saying that the 5 game series in 4 days coupled with 2 guys who can't be counted on for 6 innings means there are about a million combinations that can happen before we get to July 25/26. It depends on how they deal with the DH and who does/does not make it through 5 innings.
  7. WHY IS HOERNER NOT IN THE LINEUP MADDON???
  8. There's two different ways of counting LOB. Most people just do it at the end of the inning. Sometimes some weirdos count it by PA, so that if there's runners on 1st and 2nd and no out, and three straight guys strike out, it counts as 6 LOB. weirdo is too nice a term for somebody doing that
  9. I’m sure he’s been getting a lot of the twitter idiots telling him how bad and awful Q is all year so I don’t blame him for tweeting that. His mentions have to be a cesspool Regardless, it's super odd how personally this guy takes criticism of Cubs players I'm not sure what the problem is. All of his followers tend to make hyperbolic complaints Great players get criticized for the littlest infraction Really it's a surprise he doesn't lash out more. Everybody gets a little testy when their favorites players are taunted. Even level headed types are prone to goofy comments.
  10. The Cubs had to give Tyler Chatwood 3/38 and hope that spin rate was meaningful while Quintana $30m over the same time, plus the half season they got him at 3.5m that propelled them back into the playoffs. Competent pitching is freaking expensive.
  11. Ehhhhh...I think given what who they traded to get him, and given the type of pitcher Quintana is, I'm pretty confident they were thinking/hoping they were basically trading for a young Lester. They talked openly about the team friendly contract. They had to give up quality prospects because of how team friendly that contract was. I wasn't exactly ecstatic about the trade when it happened, because I didn't think of him as particularly great, like a young Jon Lester. But the value is in being able to pitch competently 30 times a year.
  12. So there is roughly 2.5 pitchers per team who have pitched enough to qualify on each team. That kind of says a lot on its own. The Cubs got him to give them a lot of quality innings at an affordable price, not be a shutdown ace.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] I recognize this pattern...
  14. at least have the manager remove his 17 sticks of gum from his mouth before talking
  15. I'm not going to lament the loss of ground ball outs.
  16. Doesn’t make sense from a roster standpoint. Wouldn’t be shocked if Adam Jones didn’t make sense from a luxury tax standpoint too. It was bad enough when these jabronis invented the term super utility player, and got away with it. But now we're making judgments on whether or not a player is a "true bench player"? F this.
  17. I mean, when the Cubs were a perennial 85 loss team, every couple inning stretch of suckiness threatened to set me off. But I literally cannot get the least bit worked up for a couple inning stretches of suckiness now, because of context.
  18. the ghost of kris bryant? i love kris bryant but think how cool a bizarro kris bryant would be. black atheist who loves to get drunk and occasionally gets extra base hits an atheist isn't the opposite of mormon, a bachelor is the opposite of mormon. Because a mormon marries lots of ladies and a bachelor marries none.
  19. the ghost of kris bryant?
