  1. Joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Rob Dibble, Mario Soto and now Dusty. I'm really not sure how it can be any easier to dislike the Reds.
  2. I'd say there's a lot of very good QB's that owe their "very goodness" to being in a very good situation. In any case, I don't think it's worth splitting the hairs here. Lets just reword it. Kyle Orton has exceeded the expectations that many had for him when he went to Denver. Cutler, whether he's a "better QB" than Orton or not, has not met the expectations that many had for him when he came to Chicago. The two had vastly different expectations, no doubt. But it's where the perception is coming from that Orton is better than Cutler. If that's a perception out there then it's coming from idiocy, not expectations.
  3. Orton is a very good QB. I think saying he's "not that good" is disingenous. He's not the same style of QB as Cutler. Comparing them is fruitless. Cutler may throw longer, but he throws a lot more picks too. Which QB would personally I rather have? Cutler. But that's more about what I think works better in the Mike Martz offense. Orton has been a very good QB for the style of offense that is run in Denver. Kyle Orton is not a very good NFL QB. He's very good in comparison to all other people who have played the position of quarterback in the history of the sport of american football. But he is not a "very good" NFL QB. He's in a very good situation.
  4. Twins fans are Vikings fans and Minny isn't the tiny little hamlet people want to pretend it is. I guess I'd lean to the Rays, but in reality I don't care about any of them.
  5. This game is currently off as people await word on Cutler, but the Bears were initially 3 point favorites. I'm scared to see this team start a game with a backup QB. I'd expect a lot of punts.
  6. 8 years 1 90+ win season It's mind boggling.
  7. You probably can. That team won more games than the '03 team. The problem is people were delusional with how good they thought it could and should have been. I think the thing that makes this season sucks more than most is we're well past the point where the ownership question is playing a role and the new owner should have realized by now that Hendry is part of the problem. Yet he's going to return and get a chance to hire his 4th freaking manager while blaming everything but his [expletive] philosophies for the problems. I think it's a little misleading to say he gets to hire his fourth manager. Interim guys shouldn't really count for the point you're making. I don't know why I was adding Don Baylor to the list, although he was assistant GM at the time. His third.

  9. I'm beginning to think offensive line might be a need
  10. I'm not so sure how simple it is, since 3 month stretches of really bad production are the norm it's going to be tough to stop hoping for a hot streak.
  11. I'm not really worried about Soriano's numbers vs retired pitchers, I'm more concerned with his crappy 2009, his terrible 2nd half 2010 and overall disappointing numbers, most specifically that pitiful OBP.
  12. Who have they beaten? They've squeeked out 2 of 3 from SDP. And they lost 2 of 3 to SF. Who are all these other contenders? STL? They are a mediocre team and the Cubs went 4-2 against them late in the season, and are 9-6 for the season. There havent' been any other contenders on the schedule. I'm not sure what there is to be impressed about. Beating the Mets, Florida and Milwaukee?
  13. They didn't discuss the 2003 postseason?
  14. How many world series titles?
  15. All meaningless.
  16. I read the kissingsuzykolber FJM of King every week, and since Simmons is the most popular sports columnist in the country it's next to impossible to not hear what he's said. If I post something in response to something stupid they have said, I'm not trying to be cool, I'm expressing my annoyance at two of the most popular people in sports journalism repeatedly making asinine assertions. Is there something wrong with that? We have threads dedicated to the stupid things the media says.
  17. heads or balls?
  18. I read that as "I don't understand that wins are a team statistic, and mean almost nothing at all for individuals." Carlos Zambrano was our best starter last season. And given what the rest of the rotation has done this year, he would have been #1 again this season if the front office hadn't bungled things so awfully. Oh really? Then why does Jim Hendry keep telling me that Zambrano had a bad season last year since he only won 9 games?
  19. If he was in the Chicago market he could see it over the air. I assume GB had the same thing. When a NY team plays on ESPN it's shown on the WB channel 9 around here.
  20. They've played a number of games against teams still fighting for the playoffs. Are you impressed though?
  21. i know it's cool to hate on simmons, but when it comes to basketball he knows what he's talking about, and he actually does get good info. hopefully the bulls stand pat, because that's way too much to give up for melo imo It's not that it's cool to hate on Simmons, it's just that he's a completely delusional idiot.
  22. Even then I'm not sure what players expect to hear. These guys aren't going to admit their weaknesses, so if a coach tells them what they have failed to do, that player isn't going to relay it to the media unless he can translate it into a way to cause a rift that results in him becoming a free agent. If you are a WR in a group of 5 WR and you get skipped over for a game or two, the reason is most likely the coaches think the other WR are better than you. What sort of explanation do you need?
  23. I think at this point in his career it's pretty clear 3-ish ERA is a bit overly aggressive for his upside. He's probably got a 4-ish WAR upside.
  24. http://deadspin.com/5651459/the-tenth+and+one+third-inning-the-documentary-ken-burns-shouldve-made He's already making the next 1/3rd of an inning.
