I'm not being obtuse. You guys are misestimating one of two factors: Either you think Castro's agent is dumb and doesn't realize how much Castro will be in line for if he continues to develop, or you are considering the risk of him not living up to such a contract to be negligible. If Castro were a free agent this offseason, and you had a choice between 7/$55 guaranteed or 5/$25 non-guaranteed, it'd be absurd not to choose the latter. You are absolutely being obtuse. You are asking what's in it for him and then when that is explained you are acting as though nobody has explained what's in it for him. Castro is not a free agent this offseason and so it is downright stupid to bring that up in the discussion.

That risk is real. The Cubs currently have him under team control with no guaranteed money for the next five seasons. I'm in no hurry to assume that risk when there's no need to do so, for speculative gains in seasons six through ?. Why are you being so obtuse? What's in it for the Cubs is getting him at a reduced rate over the next several years and what's in it for him is security. There's a mutually beneficial point in there that makes sense.

I'm not sure I would be that pissed. The AL West isn't exactly led by the greatest run organizations in the league. They've been an after thought in the NL central for a while now. Now they can have a somewhat local rivalry and get to go to California and Seattle instead of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri and Wisconsin when road tripping. -
Because I wanted to see other peoples' answers. What's in it for him is a lifetime of financial security without the risk of injury or decline ruining that opportunity.

Why was the Zambrano/Epstein lunch thread locked? This thread is about trading Zambrano (a dumb move) and it doesn't appear for now like the Cubs are going to do that. The more appropriate line of discussion relates to that lunch, and is very much a Cubs discussion, since it is about a Cubs pitcher and the Cubs boss man.

Yeah, but Norv Turner coaches this team. Plus they aren't good. Say what you want about their theoretical talent level, but sd finished second last year in a weak division and are as mediocre as their record suggests. They may not be terrible but they sure as he'll aren't good. If Chicago loses it's a letdown on their end. Agree. The Bears should win this game, all things considered. Better team, at home, west coast team travelling to central time zone. But the extra time off (after 3 games in 16 days) and the desperation scares me. I get the desperation talk but I'm not sure it applies to San Diego. They've started slow in previous years before turning it on, but they've also completely crapped the bed midseason and ruined their chances. People have been talking about the unbelievable talent on that team for 6-7 years, but I think the talent has declined and they are just another AFC West team, albeit with a quarterback who may not be a joke. -
of course he did. i can't believe people actually thought he really just saw it and walked away, allowing it to continue. i assumed he either stopped it or sandusky saw him and stopped. The report is that McQueary sent an email to his former teammates saying he made sure it was over before he turn and ran away. He didn't tell the grand jury that, and the most likely scenario is that when they locked eyes, everybody froze. But if all the old man did was pull out before McQueary ran, he has no way of knowing if it stopped. He didn't break up anything, he merely interrupted.

In 2006 and 2007 his PR/KR numbers were 47/20 and 42/43, in 2008 it was 32/31 and 2009 was 24/7. His receptions/rushes went from 0/0, 20/7, 51/6. He was returning less often and doing a worse job of it as his nonreturn duties increased. In 2010 his non-return touches declined, his returns increased, and his success increased. I think it's a pretty simple explanation.

Randomly? I thought it was common knowledge that he was putting more effort into being a receiver in those years. He didn't return as often, and when he did he was partially worn down by playing every down as a receiver.

I think assistant to the GM and assistant GM are different things. I thought so too. I thought the Assistant GM would do more of the working side by side with the GM and the Assistant to the GM was the bitch boy to get Jed his coffee. Hearing what Shiraz is going to be doing though it sounds like Randy Bush is going to become the bitch boy. I'm curious what role he has and if soon he will just end up resigning. Maybe they should just send him to work in Mesa and be "Assistant GM in charge of special projects". It sounds like Rehman is going to have a narrowly defined role, whereas Bush is more of an advisor. He's also being kept on as a reward for how well he performed his duties during the turnover and could leave whenever he wanted if he desired. He could always use this as a terrific opportunity to work with very smart people who are the polar opposite of the people he used to work for. -
