  1. This offseason is kind of like sitting at the kid's table for Christmas dinner.
  2. We waiting until the decent players are gone to go dumpster diving.
  3. I’m in for this. Or something like Schwarber and Q for an Indians pitcher or those two for Jon Gray How about Scwarber and Quintana for Camargo and Teheran. Gives the Braves the slugger they want, gives us another versatile player. Opens up possibility of trading Zobrist, Russell, and/or Happ and makes room for signing Harper.
  4. The Cubs didn't realize that $40million was per year not over 7 years.
  5. Which would be the bigger shock: Bryce signing with the Cubs or Baines making the HOF?
  6. I love all of this CYA reporting - "The Cubs don't have the money for Harper, but you never know." LOL
  7. Apparently you didn't hear that Schwarber isn't on the trade block, so we'll have to lure a team to take on Heywards contract by using Chatwood, Russell, Duensing, Kintzler, Bote, or Caratini. It's funny how you disappeared when the cubs were on top of the world and now you're back with a vengeance at the slightest hint of trouble. I never disappeared as you keep claiming, but what is this trouble that you talk about? I see posters claiming we're a 95 win team without making any moves. We just need Harper to put the cherry on top of the cupcake.

  9. I have a hunch the overwhelming majority of Cub fans would love to trade Quintana for Jimenez & Cease. As a trade chip I'd take him back, sure. As a big league player, he is a DH or a bad corner outfielder. Sounds like my description of Schwarber two years ago.
  10. I have a hunch the overwhelming majority of Cub fans would love to trade Quintana for Jimenez & Cease.
  11. That's true, but hearing and seeing Bryce Harper and Eloy Jimenez all over the daily media would be frustrating, especially if the Cubs struggle.
  12. Kevin Negandhi ✔ @KNegandhiESPN Top 3 teams in the Bryce Harper Sweepstakes according to @kurkjian_ESPN 1. Phillies 2. Dodgers 3. White Sox 3,350 5:54 PM - Dec 7, 2018 It would be bad enough losing out on Harper, but it would really be bad knowing we lost out on him to the White Sox.
  13. Professional hitter? I didn't think he was going to sign an amateur.
  14. He already has cut down on his HR swing.
  15. Jordan Bastian ✔ @MLBastian Theo Epstein: "No one hitter, especially in the seas where we're fishing, is going to transform the offense. It's going to be a continued evolution of what I think is a group of really, really talented position players that stumbled badly in the second half of last year."
  16. if you wanna do wishful thinking, just pretend that we have the budget for harper and he wants to be here, but we're trying to move other pieces so we can sign both he and machado. harper wants to be here strongly enough that he's delaying his signing and the terms of his contract until we're further along with machado. As long as we're doing wishful thinking, don't forget the trade of Chatwood, Duensing, Russell, Kintzler and Heyward for Trout so that we can clear some contracts.
  17. Theo quote from today's Tribune: "And there will be winters when we do acquire a big name, and there will be winters that we don't acquire a big name. I don't know what category this winter will fall into yet, but there's a chance there's going to be a winter where we don't acquire a big name from outside the organization. That does not represent failure." That sounds to me like he's preparing us for some unpleasant news.
  18. He would really have to want to play for the Cubs to take that deal. If other teams are offering him $35 million plus for every year, would he accept $20 million per year for the first two years waiting for a huge payday after that. Also, if he wants to play for a winner, there wouldn't be much of a guarantee that the Cubs would be competitive with big pay raises/extensions to Baez, Contreras, Bryant, Hendricks, etc. in addition to his huge bump of $30 million.
  19. Has he thrown any ML innings since his surgery? Actually I'm worried about what we can expect out of Darvish and whether Bryant's shoulder is okay with rest or will he have more pain.
  20. What was Rosenthal saying again? He tweeted something like “Theo watch is on” in response to Mooney’s article the other day asking are the Cubs “laying in the weeds” on Harper and then he was on MLBN last night saying he expects the Cubs to make moves and it could be big. That clip is like a page or two back I think. That's really going out on a limb "saying he expects the Cubs to make moves and it could be big". Does any really think the Cubs aren't going to make any moves this offseason? "It could be big" or maybe not.
  21. yeah, but he's gonna have no shortage of teams that'll pay him what he wants. i think they'd have to blow teams out of the water to get him, given the overall picture. and reinsdorf's history makes it really hard to see them blowing the field out of the water, so by extension, i consider the idea pretty bonkers. also did you edit that reinsdorf stuff in after i thought of my response or am i going nuts? Disagree strongly that there's going to be a ton of teams willing to pay him what he wants. And no I did not. I also think the market for Harper will be pretty limited. The buyers have already made some big deals and the sellers are having fire sales for their big name players.
  22. So managers can't position players where he wants them? I think batters ought to learn how to hit to the opposite field or lay down a bunt to the opposite side.
  23. Especially if you live near Wrigleyville.
  24. If Bryant is as much of a plus for the Cubs' chances of getting Harper as we assume he is, then the Sox playing in the same metro has to count for something, right? If the wives are that close to each other I could see that being something that counts to at least be in the same city but different teams. But for KB and Bryce even if they’re in the same city but on different teams I doubt KB and Bryce would get a ton of chances to get together in season with different team schedules. They’d maybe see each other nominally more than when he was with the Nats and they don’t live in Chicago in the offseason anyways. Hell if he's getting $400 million, he can build his buddy a house next door to his in any city.
  25. Maybe they said we'l give you $40,000,000 per year while you wait for the young core to gel.
