  1. Bruce Miles just posted an article about a regime change it was a good read, I'd post a link but for some reason I can't copy the link from the tweet on my iPad. Hiring Schurholtz as president was an idea I really liked.
  2. I agree, and the Ricketts family hasn't done squat that would make the fan base believe they give a rats butt about winning. Hendry should have been fired during last offseason honestly. I dont have much faith they would have the brains to hire someone who would do a better job though so maybe it doesn't even matter.
  3. the quality of the posters here has gone down pretty hard in recent years. Maybe people just became grumpier as the quality of the team suffered I don't know. these days if you post anything that differs from the opinion of 2 or 3 people you get a page of response about how much of an idiot you are. most of the friendly knowledgeable fans have been run off by A-holes. it's no surprise that new folks have no disire to post here. The only good entertaining discussion that goes on around here anymore is in the minor league and draft forums and that's because there are still knowledgable intelligent posters providing some great info on prospects and links to articles and info that would otherwise be alot harder to track down. the hard truth is that there are few friendly people left here, which is sad it used to be quite different.
  4. The guy is batting .314 with 24 RBI. He's been one of the most solid offensive players on the team. I think his numbers speak for themselves. I don't know why I keep getting drawn into these threads. Gotta stop reading the crap from people who think they know everything.
  5. scramble! scramble for a witty retort to your poor player predictions. lol w/e
  6. He's like that Darwin Barney, he'll never hit in the majors right?
  7. It seems like first round high school position picks never work out for us.
  8. Who's to say he wont just have the same issue over and over. I dont really understand why keep running him out there if its just going to keep doing the same thing. Seems like their would have to be a reason structurally for the tightness. Did he see Andrews?
  9. Well, that sucks. That almost guarantees that, even if he does come back healthy, it will not be as a starter. Actually from what I've read today, I think it was on the official site Quade has been quoted as saying they are still committed to Cashner as a starter and when he's healthy he will take his place in the rotation again. What's the point of another MRI really? what will it show that the one they took 3 weeks ago didn't?
  10. Sadly, mediocre, boring teams dont get top 10 draft picks, rather somewhere between 15-20, which are used on guys like Hayden Simpson. mediocre, boring teams also dont have a July fire sale to beef up their farm systems. You speak the truth man. Sadly.
  11. Well you made me spew soda all over the place, that truely made me laugh.
  12. I wasnt happy about the Vitters pick at the time still dont like it. I guess Im still disgruntled about Simpson, who was on no one's radar and it seems like we havent really caught a break with any of our top picks as far as having someone that paned out to be a star prospect in the last 5 years. There are plenty of teams in that boat though. Vitters is still young but it just seems to be coming along very slowly for him.
  13. We'll probably take some guy that no one has ever heard of again and he'll be awful *sigh* Wilken... Has he ever taken anyone that someone on this board had on their radar with our first pick?
  14. Since Tim Wilken took over as scouting director in December of 2005 our top picks have been: 2006: Tyler Colvin 2007: Josh Vitters 2008: Andrew Cashner 2009: Brett Jackson 2010: Hayden Simpson Two of those have reached the majors, one is generally considered our top prospect (Jackson), one is still ranked in the top 5 of the Cubs' system (Vitters) and one has been slowed by illnesses and it's still far too early to tell (Simpson). Opinions on these guys vary, but to call them "terrible" is a bit of an overstatement. At what point do you write off Vitters? He's been pretty bad as far as I can tell. Hayden who is in low A has been pretty bad so far. Cashner shows some promise if he can stay healthy and Colvin is quickly burying himself as any kind of a prospect. Brett Jackson maybe the one lone ray of hope in that list. I gotta start avoiding these threads everyone left here is drinking the blue koolaid. Good luck with your delusions of grandeur I'll just stick to reading post in the minor league forums for news that's about all these forums are good for these days.
  15. Wow you guys are awesome, this is the reason these boards are a ghost town and there are like 8 people that post here on a regular basis. I never said Barney is the 2b of the future I said I liked what I saw from him so far. Christ learn to read and stop talking for other people. If you run off everyone with an opinion sooner or later you'll be the only ones here left to listen to yours, of course that may be the way you want it and maybe its better that way.
  16. No I meant the team overall is performing as I expected. Your not making much sense there buddy.
  17. Thats because so many people on these boards are busy eating the Darwin Barney crow. lol There was a tremendous amount of complaining about how he had never hit in the minors and how he'd never be a productive bat in the majors. Guess its still early but I like what Ive seen from the guy so far.
  18. He still sucks.
  19. and I thought if anything pitching would be our strength this year. Its still early but it looks as bad as I thought it would, perhaps worse.
  20. Our top picks have been pretty terrible for years now. I'd really like to see management and scouts turned over in the next couple years. We have done terrible things with our higher picks.
  21. Anyone remember Yorkis Perez? lol I thought that guy was going to be an awesome reliever he had some K the side outings his first few appearances and I still remember the guy to this day. I think he wound up pitching in Japan or something.
  22. Looks like Whitenack doing well so far. 1h, 1r, 3bb, 3K through 6 with a 12-1 groud/fly ratio
  23. When he's promoted to Chicago will he bump Byrd to right or play right?
  24. Did they send Simpson to Peoria because of the mono? I mean it's a little unusual to send 1st round starters out of college to low A isn't it? I think he's going to quickly prove he belongs in Daytona/Tenn.
