  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/A-jolly-old-Super-Bowl-NFL-considers-a-Super-Bo?urn=nfl,158834 I'll boycott.
  2. ARam after hitting the game winner -- "Get the F--- outta here" I love it
  3. Not much to take from this game. We got beat, we got held down by a pitcher that normally owns us in his ball park, and Dempster pitched reasonably well. That's about it. Overall, I don't like the fact that we've only scored 6 runs in two games at a ball park normally pretty easy to score runs in, but we did go up against Oswalt and Wandy, who does very well against us at home. 161-1 still looks good anyway.
  4. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/01/cubs-rumors-bak.html If we can't get Peavy (which I don't see happening after sending off Olson), I'd MUCH rather have Wolf than Looper. Please no Looper.
  5. Andre Dawson desktop wallpapers?
  6. When does Lee become a FA? Could we sign Dunn with the assumption that he replaces Lee after he's a FA? I know this has been discussed, but I'm too lazy to look for it.
  7. I'm fairly certain he won't be ready any time soon, if at all. I think he's probably closer to retirement than pitching again. Plus, would he really go somewhere other than the Braves? He doesn't seem like a paycheck chaser to me. I would assume he'd stay with the Braves too, but he wouldn't be chasing a paycheck to come to us, he'd be chasing another chance at the WS.
  8. Why not take a chance with him. He's still a top ten pitcher when healthy, and if we could get him for cheap because of his injury, we wouldn't have to give up anything.
  9. This is a sad day for Cubs fans as a whole, but especially those of us that fell in love with the Cubs in the 90's. Although his Hall of Fame chances are slim barring a great career as a closer, Wood will be seen by many in the same light as Sandberg, Banks, Santo and all other Cubs greats. He was the face of the organization hurt or not, and from what I understand poured his heart and sole into the city of Chicago. Kerry you will be missed by all and good luck with your new team as long as you aren't playing the Cubs... Hendry, this is the WORST move you've made as a GM. Kerry, meet Grace... you guys will live on in the hearts of fans no matter how much you hate our disfunctional organization.
  10. Sad to here, hopefully he saved some money from his playing days and his family is taken care of.
  11. Yes, because good contact hitters like Mark Grace average 160-170 RBI a year. Hmm. Wait. You know someone who makes good contact and doesn't strike out much? Miguel Tejada. 32 GIDP's this year. What do you hate more, a strike out or a GIDP? Ryan Howard hit into 11 GIDP's. Ryan Howard= 475 outs this year Miggy Tejada= 496 outs this year Very good point... I regress.
  12. I just hate strikeouts. Just imagine how many more RBI's Ryan Howard would have had this year if he made contact on half of his K's. He'd probably drive in 160 to 170 runs a year. I don't see a player as a asset if when he is up in late innings with guys on, you can figure he's probably going to K.
  13. gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Strikeouts are not the issue. How do you figure... take a look at the first inning of game 2, we have a guy at 2nd with nobody out and what happens? We K right away. We don't move him over, nothing, just K. I really hope we don't pick up Dunn or any other Ryan Howard look a like. I get tired of having the bases loaded with nobody out and not scoring because we strike out. We were 6th in the NL in K's.
  14. I think that our biggest need is a left handed bat that is next to impossible to K. I'd take a Mark Grace wanna be in a second. I'm not so sure that we need a power hitter, but a guy with doubles ability that hardly ever K's. One of our biggest weaknesses is that we can get a lead off double and then have the next two guys strike out.
  15. I actually feel like the turning point in the series was when Soriano actually got a hit to start game 2, and then we didn't drive him in after he went to second on the wild pitch. If he'd of scored, then maybe we don't feel so much pressure in the top of the 2nd and we get the job done.
  16. How did the rest of the league do against these guys though, I'd be willing to bet we did about as well as most of the other teams.
  17. You need to learn to share... close your fireplace and throw a bag in there and light them up.
  18. Harden will shut down the Dodgers tonight and our offense will show up for once, then all the pressure will shift to the Dodgers, because the Dodgers will feel like they have to win game 4 to avoid coming back to Chi-town and facing Z in game 5. Because of the pressure, the Dodgers will play tight and Lilly will have his way with them, then they come back to Chicago and Z shuts them down. Mark my words.
  19. about us not playing the Brewers as hard as we could to end the season. Whenever we didn't put out the full effort I told my co-workers that we did ourselves a disservice by not beating the Brewers and allowing them into the play-offs. I was scared of the Dodgers and sure enough, it looks like my fear is going to be realized. I'm so tired of waiting on these guys to show up in the play-offs and I'm only 27. By the way, I hope that Fukudome goes back to Japan.
  20. Yeah, that's the way I feel about it too. Andre Dawson was my favorite player, so I took to the Cubs and couldn't quit rooting for them if I wanted to. I've been called a band wagoner because of my like for the Lakers/Redskins, but I grew up watching the Lakers w/my dad who is from Cali and my first football game I ever watched was the '87 Super Bowl as a six year old and did jump on the Skins bandwagon then, but have stuck with them ever since. What I can't tolerate is the love of college sports teams that are from nowhere around your area, ie. Ark/Okla people that love NC, USC, Mich, Ohio St. Makes me sick. Where I'm from the closest professional teams are six + hours away (except for the Thunder (Sonics) that just moved in), but college teams are right down the road.
  21. I'm curious if the Chicago area Cubs fans look down on Cubs fans from out of the area that have no ties to the area. WGN has brought the Cubs to the US, and people like myself from Ark/Okla have become die hard fans. I equated it to Middle Eastern Muslims not recognizing black muslims.
  22. Fully agreed, that could have been one of the great threads of all time. :cray:
  23. I've also thought about something like that. I'd hate to see us win tomorrow and then have Mil. lose. We'd clinch without even being on the field. I want us to do whatever the Brewers do tomorrow and then win on Saturday. It would be perfect.
