  1. BTW, Franklin is from the town right next to my home town. Spiro, OK
  2. He'll join the list of pitchers to give up a homer in their first major league at bat against.
  3. Damn, that ump is squeezing Motte... regardless, I see an A-Ram bomb in our future.
  4. Why half ass pitch around a guy only to groove 3-0 and 3-1 pitches?
  5. If I remember correctly, Boston was looking at him before E.Patt fell in their laps.
  6. I'm not saying move him just to move him, but I wouldn't be against moving him if we got something of value for him. Obviously, if we traded Theriot, then more than likely keep Fonzy. I'm just saying, he isn't untouchable for any reason.
  7. I agree with selling anyone that we know we won't offer arbitration to. I also agree with selling tweeners like Theriot or Fontenot, who we still have under contract, but anyone like Lilly that we know we'll offer arbitration to, I'd assume keep and enjoy the loaded 2011 draft, unless someone really knocks our socks off with an offer.
  8. If we know for a fact that Lilly will be a type A, I think I'd rather keep him and see what we can do.
  9. Anyone wonder why it's held in June while college baseball is still going strong? It seems that an appropriate time for the draft would be the day after the all star game. It's a boring down time anyway, and it would allow college coaches to manage their players not worrying quite as much about, "This guy just got drafted #13, I can't ruin his arm."
  10. Aramis *has* started hitting... Sorry, should have said keep hitting. DLee is looking better too. A hot Soriano to go with those two starting to hit could put us on a roll. Especially with 6 of our next 12-13 games against Houston.
  11. Well, if ARam and DLee start hitting the ball, we could make a run for sure. We do need to start taking more walks though. We aren't going to get 13 hits every game. Regardless, great game tonight, and we are by no means as out of it as we should be. Go Cubs!
  12. All in all, I don't question two many of the Braves moves. They typically make the right move as far as prospects go. Of course they moved Wainwright who I'm sure they'd love to have back, but over the past several years, they've been very good about moving the guys that eventually fizzle and keeping the stars.
  13. I'm pretty sure that the Cubs should get a committee of guys from NSBB to both GM and manage. I'm pretty sure the Cubs would be the worst team in the league, but at least it would show all these guys they don't know everything about baseball.
  14. I'm beginning to think that this whole "NBA is in financial trouble" stuff is a sham... there are some below quality players getting a TON of money.
  15. http://rationallythinkingoutloud.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/bagdad_bob_large.gif EL OH EL
  16. Any chance that Lee would give them any type of discount? Even discounted, they probably couldn't afford him, but with Lee being from Benton, AR, there's a descent chance that he grew up a Cards fan (seems like everyone from Arkansas is a Cards fan), and maybe he would love to pitch for them.
  17. Obviously you don't want your highest paid pitcher in the pen, especially when he's not a closer, but he's been awful for the past... long freaking time. Gorzelanny didn't deserve to go to the pen, although, I think some time in Iowa wouldn't hurt Wells. Regardless, if you're going to keep Wells in the majors, Z can go to the pen. Pay him to be a middle reliever, I don't care, I'm tired of his act.
  18. I agree, but guys like Lee and Ramirez can get it going, not saying they will, but they are capable.
  19. I can agree with getting rid of salary and hopefully getting some prospects, but the problem is, we don't have anyone except for Lilly that really looks tradeable at this point.
  20. So after the Zambrano/Barrett fight in 2007, I believe the team went 63-47 afterward and make the playoffs. Any chance this gets a shitty team going? We were just 22-30 after the fight in 07 and started winning a nice clip. I don't expect this team to take off, but they obviously need something to get them going. We've now removed our worst starter from the rotation and might need to let Wells spend some time in the minors. We need to get the bats to start rattling, but if anything was going to make or break this team, it might have been yesterday. I expect a major upswing or a ridiculous slide that puts us 20 under.
  21. MLB has loaned them 20 mil thus far and owners are screaming to not let them take on any more salary.
  22. If the Cubs could trade Zambrano, he would have been gone earlier this season. If the Cubs pay 50% of his contract ($23 million) at the deadline, they might find a taker. Rangers could be buyers at that price. Z is at the the point where he has to be willing to waive his no-trade clause. He isn't a changed man and his daughter's request not to act like a child was obviously not enough to change him. I don't think the Rangers can take on ANY salary.
