Baker wasn't terrible, statistically speaking. 3.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K Pierce piggy backed and was ok. Struck out a ton but got knocked around a bit. 4 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7K
ANOTHER fun fact: With 27 HRs, Javy already has more this year than Anthony Rizzo ever hit in any one season in the minors. He has one less than Mike Olt's personal best of 28.
So I just did a quick run through of all the minor leagues. With the caveat that I didn't check for players who may have moved up a league and added to their total like Javy has, his 27 HRs puts him at second overall in the minors. 1st is Ryan Rua of the Rangers with 28. I would note that he is 23 and in A-Ball (Sally League) 2nd is Javy with his combined 27. 3rd is Josh Fields at 26. He is a 27 year old in AA in the Texas league. While the K rate is currently horrifying, holy [expletive] [expletive].
I guess I'll leave this here. Maybe one of my favorite Deadspin comments ever (not a high bar) from a video today of some 6 year old hitting HRs in six straight ABs:
I really think you're pulling that assumption out of thin air. Just because the big rumor guys needed something to throw at a wall and heard Towers called the Cubs again about Shark doesn't mean there's any doubts or concern about Shark.
Almost-Cub Randall Delgado almost Maddux'd the Padres today. Missed by one pitch. (CG Shutout under 100 pitches) He has a 2.83 ERA If only Dempster had been as professional about [expletive] as Soriano was.
Or Sweeney. Or they plan on getting Ellsbury and moving DeJesus to LF. Any number of things really. This does make it easy to give Lake an extended run though. Yeah, I sincerely doubt this was at all prompted by Junior.
