  1. Yeah. BA's top 50 juniors: http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-college-preview-top-50-by-class-juniors/ Guys who can really fly up if they make improvements - RHP Michael Cederoth (San Diego St), LHP Sean Newcomb (Hartford), C Max Pentecost (Kennesaw St), RHP Jordan Brink (Fresno St) and LHP Andrew Suarez (Miami). RHP Erick Feede (UNLV) and C Grayson Greiner (South Carolina) are personal favorites of mine too but I don't think they can go higher than late first round picks. I should get a BA subscription.
  2. Raisin (and other college ball aficionados), who are some of the guys you think we should be keeping an eye on as a potential draft pick by the Cubs at #4?
  3. Consider me pretty jazzed if he's being fully groomed as the closer. That said, is there any clear idea on where he's set to start the year?
  4. Any spots still available?
  5. Really liked Donte' Stallworth's take on the situation: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/10/donte-stallworth-michael-sam_n_4761724.html
  6. This is going to be a seriously bizarre article to read in 5-10 years (not that it isn't already): http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20140209/michael-sam-draft-stock/
  7. it really sounds like this was about to come out anyway, so it's hard to argue he cost himself money. might as well do it your way if the decision is going to be (unfortunately) forced upon you. also, if peter king's source is right and this guy goes undrafted, i'm going to have a hard time talking myself into sticking with the nfl. i don't know what it says about me that i can abide watching young men destroy their brains but not this. either way, i'd find it awfully crushing if they just blacklisted this guy. I'd be pretty [expletive] disgusted with the NFL if that happened. That would be one of the most cowardly things I can think of.
  8. I love you, Kyle Long
  9. Feeling really good about the 2008 draft, you guys.
  10. Fun Update: He's spent some time on Indy teams and most recently signed a minor league deal with the Padres.
  11. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10397789/projecting-keith-law-top-100-prospects-mlb With Arismendy at 13!
  12. RELEVANT: http://cdn.ksk.uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/jay-catler-felines.jpg
  13. Until he doesn't see the ball coming and it detaches his retina...unless...is it like a cartoon? Can't see straight, ball hits you In the eye, bam 20/20 Maybe he could a career out of being like that one time Ron Santo saw three balls at once due to super low blood sugar and just guessed the right ball?
  14. Olt and Hendricks in that order for me.
  15. That last bit sounds promising... I remember us discussing that bit from before...like way before. Last spring/summer. Odd that Kaplan would see that when he earlier said that he thinks this contract looks good for the rooftops. Obviously he's going back on that now. and lol at his subtle brag about having gotten into law school and his dad having been a successful attorney. Somebody tell that bald doof that 1. everyone gets into law school and 2. "getting into law school" correlates about 0% with being able to read and understand a contract. I can confirm this.
  16. Is it March 11 yet? :(
  17. Cubs just applied for a permit for the right field bleachers sign. Here we go, apparently. Should be fun. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/21043/reports-cubs-apply-for-permit-for-sign
  18. Nothing new or earth-shattering, but Rosenthal seems to think that the DBacks may revisit Shark: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/which-teams-are-willing-to-lose-draft-picks-for-free-agents-012614
  19. The Brewers and White Sox had nobody, unless I missed it. I think everyone else got at least 1 I did miss the Brewers having none, but the White Sox thing is a type. They're listed twice and had 2, Erik Johnson and Matt Davidson. Ah, go it. The Brewers system is a dumpster fire. I think any of our top 12ish guys would be considered their #1 prospect. Having none in the top 101 is pretty damn rough. They better pray they stay healthy this year.

  21. Figured I'd put this here - 7 Cubs in BP's Top 101: 4.) Javier Baez 17.) Kris Bryant 25.) Albert Almora 45.) Jorge Soler 81.) C.J. Edwards 83.) Arismendy Alcantara 91.) Pierce Johnson 7 is tied for second most with the Rangers, Pirates, and Royals. Trails only the Twins at 8. Everyone's favorite team the Yankees had the worst showing, with Gary Sanchez being their only representative one the list coming it at 85. EDIT: The Brewers actually have none. Woof. Also interesting is that there was only one (!) first baseman on the entire list, that being Jonathan Singleton of the Astros at 57. The List: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22670 The Breakdown: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22664#positions
  22. Pretty much this. Candelario then Olt for me.
