  1. Mark Prior is the only MiL'er who can make news suitable for the front page of MLB.com :P
  2. I'd be surprised if Z were in the same rotation as Veal and Samardzija.
  3. When is the Trib finally going to put a different reporter on the Cubs beat? They used to rotate them regularly, but we've been saddled with him for a heck of a long time. Sullivan was off the beat for a short time last season. He was never removed, I think, to quiet the idea that the Cubs didn't like him. Last season, there was a big brouhaha about MacPhail cornering Sullivan to confront him about some of his stories on the Cubs. Dan McGrath, Sullivan's editor, also got into the feud. Obviously, MacPhail was foolish to tell him what to write about but I suppose the team would have been within its rights to ask for a new writer. Link Since that time, I'm convinced that Sullivan takes great joy in writing nasty stories about the team.
  4. Paul Sullivan is using The Score as his source... On another note, this proves a point I tried to make a few weeks ago; the Chicago baseball writers are swayed by what is said on local sports talk radio. Wittenmyer in the Suntimes wrote today about talk radio comments (about Lou). Why are these guys getting news from the radio when they are team beat writers????!!!!
  5. So after seeing that clip I must ask, did Zell really make his bones on real estate or has he just always been wealthy thanks to his pot of gold? LOL, I think he's distantly related to the Kiblers.
  6. I have a Prior home jersey; I'm embarrassed to be seen in the thing!
  7. Oh dear. I'm done paying attention to this for good now, or at least until the Thread Headline that reads, "Prior recalled from AAA". I agree completely. I'm no longer on Prior watch.
  8. I'm becoming increasingly skeptical about the Cubs signing Zambrano. Steve Stone keeps inferring that they aren't going to do it ( Today he said that the Cubs will over work Zambrano this year to get as much out of their investment as possible--about 36 starts). Zell, in his own sarcastic way, is also causing doubt. I hope I'm wrong. Zell In other news, Zambrano is no longer talking to Tribune writers or Comcast SportsNet because he claims they misinterpreted/misquoted his words about the Brewers vs Reds...
  9. Steve Stone (on the Mike Murphy Show) just said that Prior, who was scheduled to pitch 3 innings at Fitch Park today, could only go 2 innings. He had reduced velocity and came out of the game complaining of "side pain." Anyway... Stone also thinks Guzman will be the fifth starter sooner rather than later (even though he sees Miller getting at least one more start).
  10. I can understand your position. All I'm saying is we can't deny that people with an inside perspective, on the type of owner that is likely to be approved, say that Cuban has no shot.
  11. I guess you don't understand the business of baseball then. Just because all of you think Cuban is the solution and want him to buy to Cubs, it doesn't mean that MLB and the owners agree. He has no chance. Do you have inside information? If so please share. If not, your post is very presumptive. To be fair, Ken Rosenthal has insider MLB information and he has also said, to paraphrase, that there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that Cuban will be allowed to own the Cubs.
  12. Leave it to Sox fan Sam Zell to cause doubt in the minds of Cubs fans. Checkout this WGN Sports clip :P Zell on Z
  13. MIL won the suspended game earlier today and are leading FLA, in today's scheduled game, 5-2 in the top of the ninth. If the Brewers win they will be tied with the Cards at 5-4.
  14. Yeah, I forgot about Grady. I didn't say Hunter because sometimes he takes some unnecessary chances and, as a result, balls get away but he's also better than Anderson overall.
  15. And now the Twins bust out for 4 more runs!
  16. yanks lead by one. Twins offense has been nonexistent All the more reason not to play for only one run. Sometimes you have to do something unconventional. He's a good manager. Perhaps, he feels that his players will be a bit more relaxed, in this game, if they aren't trailing. They haven't been scoring a lot of runs period; 1 run yesterday, 2 the day before, 3 runs on Sunday, and a shutout last Saturday.
  17. yanks lead by one. Twins offense has been nonexistent so they are desperately hoping to tie the game.
  18. I have to admit, the constant Matsuzaka hype makes me wish bad things for him. I know it's mostly Boston's marketing but I'm tired of him already--and ESPN eats and sleeps Yankees and Red Sox coverage... If he's great, his season will be successful. I certainly don't need to hear about it relentlessly. I'm glad Felix stole the spotlight.
  19. Felix no-no'ing through 7
  20. Are you kidding? I'm looking at it objectively. I watch just as many sox games as I do Cubs games and I remember Anderson misjudging a number of routine plays last year. Typical rookie/inexperienced player who can make the spectacular plays but has brain freeze on some of the routine outs. Heck, I remember Harrelson chiding him for his bad jumps in one particular game last season... He took a bad line in today's game then had trouble picking up the ball near the wall. While I realize anyone can have a bad day in the field, someone dubbed "the best CF in baseball" shouldn't have those problems. He is a nice defensive player but his abilities are grossly overstated. In truth, Anderson's defense might be on par with Felix Pie. Among current MLB CF'ers, I'd say Cameron is better right off the top of my head.
  21. Oliver Perez just had a meltdown in the Mets/Phillies game. He walked in two consecutive runs and hit a batter with the bases loaded. Now he's headed to the showers.
  22. Ken Rosenthal says Mark Cuban would be good for MLB but doesn't think he has a realistic chance of owning the Cubs. He outlines some of the reasons in his latest article.
  23. Lidge isn't happy (which you would expect) but I'm surprised he voiced his displeasure. He hasn't pitched well consistently for quite some time so the demotion shouldn't have come as a surprise. ESPN
  24. Z needs to step up and out duel Harang. Get it done!
