  1. Value date? I doubt that because it would be an add-on to a prime series.
  2. LOL, Brian Anderson is the best defensive CF in baseball? Come on! Guillen definitely had a brain cramp leaving Podsednick in the game with that terrible arm and poor catching skills... I wonder if his head hurts. :P Did you see the play he made in the 6th inning? He's very very good in CF, maybe the best. Theres really no reason he should be on the bench. Anyway, go A's...gotta hold on for another 3 innings. EDIT: 2 innings after Podsednik gets a hold of a bat. Yes, I saw it. That does not make him the best defensive CF in baseball. Did you see the ball he misplayed earlier in the game when he didn't cleanly pick it from the wall? That was a routine play!
  3. Worse news: the Cardinals just won and are in first place in the division after sweeping the Pirates. Nah, that's not worse. I would have like the Cardinals to lose but it's too early to really be concerned about their 5-4 record.
  4. Cubs Rain out policy You had to figure refunds would be issued. July 12th is a prime date and today's game would not have been.
  5. LOL, that's a good point. Technically, Hill becomes the number two starter with this new alignment. However, it's probably short lived because the other starters are going to be constantly juggled so that Zambrano can stay on normal rest (at least that was the plan. They might not do it going forward if they get the desired results from this reshuffling). Throughout the course of the year it shouldn't matter but right now, 1s and 2s are still matching up in series (Harang vs Zambrano (again), etc).
  6. Hmm, Lilly and Hill back to back huh? I thought they separated them earlier because they didn't want two lefties back to back? RLRLR was the rationale for the construction of the rotation but Piniella is smart; He would rather have Hill and Lilly against a team in the division instead of pushing Hill back to the Padres series.
  7. Was this a national game? I didn't notice. Teams postpone games on one day's notice all the time. I don't think that's an issue. This was a WGN game. The issue isn't the postponement but the rescheduling. The Cubs have hundreds of affiliate stations that carry their broadcasts so allowing for the reshuffling of programming is important. Think about it, stations set their programming schedules weeks in advance (including guest interviews) it's not just a matter of the Cubs are playing so they carry the game... An ancillary benefit is this allows the Cubs to add a Summer night game to the schedule. This is the first season that they have been allowed up to 30 night games. I believe that the addition of this game and the option to change two future Sunday night games brings the total to 29. I do know they gave up a night game to add a second night for the Police concert. Well what are they going to show now today with the Cubs game canceled on such short notice? That's not what I'm saying... Filler programming is easy the add on is more taxing (especially for the radio stations).
  8. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. My guess is they will look to issue refunds. I doubt they will allow too many value tickets on what would normally be a prime Summer night game (the other 3 games in the series are prime). BTW, I just heard that Z will pitch Friday (as scheduled) and Hill on Saturday. Lilly will pitch the final game of the series.

  10. The game came down to Jason Bay, stupidly, throwing the ball to third base (instead of second base) which allowed the tying run to score on a single. There was a double play in the 9th inning that would have ended the game in regulation if the runner had not been allowed to advance.
  11. The weather tomorrow is sketchy but that isn't the primary reason for the postponement. There is a big issue with short notice for fans and TV and radio programming for a national audience (including all of the affiliate stations that would have to change programming to accommodate the broadcast).
  12. That's a good question, I was thinking the same thing. The Cubs.com headline gives the impression that Hill will miss a start--not that he will be moved up to Friday. I wish that were the case.
  13. Tribune This change also makes that Astros series 4 games right after the AllStar Break.

  16. The game has officially been postponed. Rescheduled for July 12th.

  18. I agree with the first part of your statement; Lou was referring to his fly ball team. However, I don't think he was being critical of Hendry or the makeup of the team (just speaking frankly about its makeup) because Lou had something to do with the new player acquisitions and the retention of players who were on the team last season.
  19. Seriously, this is all being taken out of context. Comcast Sports Net showed the entire interview in yesterday's postgame show. The reporters were offering him excuses (probably hoping he'd latch on to one) for why the team isn't clicking offensively. He refused to accept an excuse but he did say that it isn't easy to play in 40 degree weather. He also flatly said that there was no excuse because both teams play in the same environment. He was visibly upset about the path the reporters were trying to take him down which is why he made it a point to clarify. I see this as nothing more than some writers running with isolated quotes rather than giving the full context of the discussion and the followup.
  20. Before people start jumping to conclusions, it's also important to add these quotes from Lou: Cubs.com Also:
  21. That Brewers game was suspended after, at least, two delays. The Brewers tied it in the 9th then it started raining again in the 10th.
  22. Ask and you shall receive. :D
  23. YAY! Ask and receive; the Reds just lost to AZ on a double off the wall to score the runner from 1B. SWEET
  24. Yeah, that bonk on the head had to hurt. lol Now, we just need AZ to finish the Reds. The game is tied at 4 in the bottom of the 11th.
