  1. I think the guy was asking for trouble. The article mentioned that he is a talk show host and longtime "critic" of Manuel... It isn't fair to compare him to another manager in a postgame show (especially following a tough loss). The guy is in there to ask questions and record responses not to tell him how to motivate his players. He's talking like a fan which is uncalled for and unprofessional. A beat writer could never get away with such behavior. It sounds like typical sports radio nonsense. I'm sure he has enough on-air material to last a month.
  2. I don't think Soriano's willingness to change positions is pushing anyone out of the starting lineup. As it stands, Soriano is the CF (Pie is a substitute at this point), Murton is the RF, and there is a rotation in LF. The example you gave is a little different because Aramis is the established third baseman. Besides, let's keep in mind that Soriano was merely answering the question about, possibly, moving from CF if Pie stays with the ML team. I think his answer was more about doing whatever is best for the team/what Lou suggests.
  3. The way I heard this story, on the radio, the reporter asked Manuel why he didn't 'get angry like Lou Piniella.' LOL, if that's the case, I think his blowup is understandable. That's a ridiculous question to ask a manager. His demeanor shouldn't be openly compared to another manager's... According to what I heard, Manuel asked the guy into his office where a shouting match ensued.
  4. Murton must be sitting on the bench thinking Soriano considers him chopped liver. I like the fact that he's taking to and looking after felix. He shouldn't be treating other teammates like they're nothing in order to do it though. Let the coach figure out who plays where and when, quit trying to play coach yourself, Sori. You're a newb on this team and you haven't done jack to earn your pay here yet, so in the mean time, sit down and shut up. It's been said already, but I echo those that see your comments as an overreaction. Soriano being amiable to changing his position is not a slight to Matt Murton nor is he trying to play the role of manager. In fact, some would say that the Cubs moving Murton to RF is an attempt to get him into the OF on a consistent basis: Phil Rogers / Tribune Gordon Wittenmyer / Suntimes
  5. Is this the 8th or 9th game this year where the ump had a bad strikezone? Without a doubt, it's Wade second bad umpire experience. Those 6ER in MIL were flukey...
  6. yeah, and there's a reason why he's catching.
  7. Not the losses-just this loss. The offense Sunday and the offense yesterday were two completely different things. That's what happens when you construct a roster as poorly as Jim Hendry. It's a feast or famine offense. They will look completely different from day to day, but more often than not, they will look bad. The Cubs were lucky that game even went into extra innings. They had a terrible pitching performance but remained in the game. Maddux pitched poorly as well. The Padres bullpen allowed them to win the game.
  8. I have a favorite player, I'm going to continue to cheer for him. Get over it. Seriously. Sammy Sosa rules. Ruled. Sammy Sosa ruled. I have to agree, but I was happy to see him make Gullien look stupid tonight.
  9. Blanco, and his new 2 year deal, isn't going anywhere. This just sets up a logjam at catcher and in the OF (by considering Barrett in LF).
  10. He's too fragile. The Cubs have enough pitchers with injury histories.
  11. Well, they have played 13 games so I'm not entirely sure... I think the offense will be fine and the "questionable" pitching has been solid, overall, thus far. To answer your question, I believe the Cubs longest winning streak last year was 4 games so it was at least 2 seasons ago...
  12. I'm disapointed about today's game, and the overall record, but I think they will start scoring more runs soon. If they are still doing this when the temperature heats up, then worry. The Cubs absolutely crushed some balls today that would have been homers on an average day (minus any wind). The strong wind blowing in changed the game. Last night, they scored 12 runs and the wind wasn't blowing out... I'm certainly not suggesting that they will score that many per game but I do believe that some of the hitters have been robbed on this homestand.
  13. The thing I don't get is platooning Barrett in LF (as described in Transactions) If the Cubs were to acquire another catcher, it would seem to signal that Barrett will be allowed to leave via free agency. It would cause a log jam at catcher and the OF.
  14. He sucks! If the Cubs can't get at least 6 innings out of their 5th starter, the bullpen is going to be seriously overtaxed. Zambrano, Lilly, and Marquis also tend to use a lot of pitches early in the game so the 'pen doesn't have a chance to rest.
  15. Hahaha! He just killed the Sox for that IBB before him...
  16. Because if the game is tied there's no one to pay SS. Izturis PH earlier. Marquis, Pie, Zambrano across the outfield Ramirez, Theriot, DeRosa, Jones across the infield. I don't see Marquis playing OF You don't? What do you think was going to happen if we tied the game? Marquis, Pie, Jones Ramirez, Cedeno, Theriot, DeRosa Marquis at 1B-- maybe Pretty sure Jones has played 1B before. I think that Marquis would've went out in LF. Needless to say, we'll never know. FWIW: Tribune
  17. I heard that snippet on ESPN AM 1000's Sports Center. Lou didn't sound too happy about it... I think he wants Ohman out but it isn't his call. I'm still awaiting The Score's tape of the post game son of a.... they never played it! Now Sox pregame :x
  18. These callers are hysterical! A guy just called to say the Cubs are snake bitten then he said they will win the division. Now, some how it's Rothschild's fault.
  19. yeah, that guy was a winner... Beware, some of these idiots are Sox fans stirring the pot. They are awaiting the sox pregame show.
  20. I'm waiting to hear Lou's comments. I'll post when I know...
