  1. Nice poll question, haha. How many votes will the 1938 Homer in the Gloamin' get? I don't think too many 80-year-olds will be texting.
  2. THIS is what I get to see when the video is finally fixed??? Crap.
  3. Home runs: CUBS: none This is my favorite part of the box score thus far. 7 runs with no bombs = nice. Kosuke is going to bankrupt Walgreens one walk at a time.
  4. I have. I got my tickets for 5/1 and 5/29 last week.
  5. I love the word "schmootz". Although I thought it was "schmutz". Either way, I'm sure there's nothing suspicious about a bunch of goop on the thumb, forefinger and middle finger of a pitcher's throwing hand. :-s
  6. My choices: 3rd rotation - Marquis (until he's traded) 5th rotation - Lieber long relief/spot start - Dempster (until Marquis is traded) closer - Wood 7th inning - Marmol 8th inning - Howry lefty arm - Pignatiello (until Eyre's elbow pain is addressed or subsides)
  7. SO TO !
  8. I never think of gum when I hear "Wrigley Field". In fact, when I hear "Wrigley", even in a gum commercial, I think of the Cubs. So should the Cubs pay them for the free subliminal advertising? :D You've never had Wrigleys Old Fashioned flavored gum? Sure I have, but if I see or hear the name Wrigley I think "Field" and not "gum". I guess I'm more of a Cub fan than a gum man. :D
  9. It shouldn't be inevitable, but it is in Wrigley's case. Those other owners must have more respect for the tradition and history of their ballparks than Zell does for the Cubs and Wrigley Field. He's just treating the park and the team as what they are to him - pieces of a larger acquisition that he has to unload if he wants to keep his White Sox ownership stake. They don't mean anything to him beyond the money they can fetch. It's his right to sell the name, whether we like it or not. I sure don't like it.

  11. I wouldn't mind if the Cubs played at US Cellular Field for a season. I've never felt unsafe in the area around the park, day or night. I could certainly catch more games at USCF than I could in Milwaukee. Oh, and Miller Park is a dump. A dark warehouse with a leaky roof. No, thanks.
  12. Unfortunately, selling the venue's name is the way of the sporting world now. I don't like it, but it ain't going away any time soon. I just can't imagine Wrigley Field by any other name - I know most people get used to the new names over time, but Wrigley Field is one of those places (like Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park) that have become more than just a sporting venue. It's very shady of Zell to try to put the heat on the Wrigley Co. to purchase "what they've been getting for free". They haven't been getting anything "for free" - that was the name of the park because it was the name of the Cubs' owner. Zell does seem to be having fun getting under Cubs fans' skin.
  13. Thinking about it, although I'm not a big fan of Miller Park. Feels like a warehouse when the roof is closed.
  14. This would be an awesome Sunday uniform at home. Maybe add a Wrigley Field patch or something on the shoulder.
  15. Perfection. Names should only appear on road jerseys - home fans should know their players' names. Or buy a program.
  16. Maybe White Sox fans going to show their Aaron Rowand love? :D
  17. I picked up a solo ticket for the value date 5/1 vs. the Brewers. 10th row outfield club box seat - not bad at all! Also grabbed 3 for the 5/29 Rockies game. Good times!!
  18. The Sox fans I talked to are not so much upset at getting Swisher, but the fact that they have 1 and 1/2 pitchers in their rotation, no bullpen beyond Jenks and (maybe) Thornton, and Swisher is a pretty similar player to a lot of guys they have already (although he walks more than anyone except Thome). Kenny Williams talks everyone's ear off about the value of pitching, then proceeds to deal pitchers away left and right. It's to the point where Sox fans want the team to acquire broken-armed question marks like Bartolo Colon or Freddy Garcia again. I think it's going to be another really long year for them. Everything would have to fall into place for them to even finish third.
  19. It's going to be interesting to watch the White Sox on this. They've had a lousy off season thus far coming off a lousy year with an owner, who loves sticking it to the Cubs. I think they're a legitimate threat. I think they're at the point this offseason where they might feel desperate to sign someone, just to try to offset the failed Hunter and Cabrera attempts. They don't normally do 5-year deals, although they offered one to Hunter, so it'll be interesting to see if the Hunter offer was an abberation or a shift in their policy. If the Cubs land Fukudome, do you think Pie becomes trade bait, or will Fukudome play right field?
  20. Wow, this trade makes no sense. They spend 5 million to pick up Uribe's option, then trade a middle-rotation starter for a 33-year-old with a 9 million contract for this year. Looks like another 4th-place finish for them this year.
  21. Yep, that's the guy. My opinion holds - if the Cubs didn't have Ramirez and Crede's back was healthy, I'd love to see him at 3B for the Cubs. The worst thing about Joe Crede is Scott Boras. Hmm, maybe my link isn't working on your computer. Try these instead: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6411 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6411 http://www.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=150317 Thanks, those links all worked great, as did the last one you provided. I know Crede doesn't measure up to all the fantastic third basemen the Cubs have had historically, but I still liked what I saw of him before his back went out. He was progressing and developing in the year and a half before his back problems limited him in 2007, much the way Aramis has developed as a defensive player since his Pittsburgh years. Some people still say that Aramis sucks defensively, too, and they're wrong. It's obvious that the Cubs won't acquire Crede, but there's a big difference between sucking and being a servicable major-league ballplayer, and that's the point I'm trying to make. He's not the best all-around 3B in the world, but in no way would I say he sucks. He falls between the "suck" end of the spectrum and the "OMG" end of it.

  23. Crede doesn't suck. Far from it. He unfortunately has a creaky back and an inconsistent bat. He's well above average defensively (or was, anyway - we'll see how he plays coming back from the long back-related layoff) and he doesn't make ridiculous money (although Boras wants to change that). He's a very solid player when healthy. If the Cubs didn't have Aramis, I'd love a healthy Joe Crede in Cubbie blue.
  24. I could be way off, but the way I took that comment was that he wants guys who offer more than one thing. Not just a speed guy, not just a power guy, but a guy who can bring more than one aspect of the offensive game. And of course, those guys grow on trees, are as cheap as they come, and no other team would want someone like that.
  25. I heard Lou on the radio this morning and he said he's happy with Soriano in the leadoff spot and he has no plans to move him down. He said the challenge the Cubs face in the offseason is to get faster and more versatile in other spots in the order.
