  1. How many more chances will this sack of horsefeathers get? He horsefeathering sucks.
  2. Who’s (supposed to be) our closer anyway? Better not be Fulmer.
  3. Any realistic option for a dude willing to drink and pony up, but with a teenage son coming along who obviously doesn't drink? Would any of these places allow underage patrons? Otherwise, care to give me a good recommendation on a "family friendly" joint close by? Landed here yesterday. The calm before the storm is eerie.
  4. Keys to comeback anybody? * Attack Kluber earlier in the count * Jon Lester changing speeds/over reliance on fastballs * Keep Lindor/other speedsters off the basepaths

  6. Infrequent poster, mostly from bygone Hendry era. Fan since 1982.
  7. What channel will the game be on when Dodgers Nationals goes over?

  9. Many thought this past weekend's away series and Lake's demotion was the time to bring Soler up. We start a homestand tomorrow with two strong teams (San Fran and the Orioles), followed by road series with tough division rivals (Reds and Cardinals). The schedule doesn't get any easier when the rosters expand. We start September with Brewers, Pirates and at Blue Jays. Does the schedule matter at all, or it's simply a matter of waiting until the rosters expand? He's kind of cooled off a little bit in the last week, but does it really matter? Would 25 game September audition against teams in the pennant race be a deal breaker? Certainly can't be because of Ruggiano or Sweeney. Love the forum by the way. Best Cub chatter out there.
  10. Yes I meant Milton. And yes I meant Dec 2009 as the day of my last post prior to last night's. Rust shows.
  11. Dec 2009 (Michael Bradley signing) -> Aug 2014 (Greatest Generation arrival) Long overdue.
  12. Can someone provide me with Peavy's Road ERA+ or a link to it?
  13. I hope Jimbo found a better way to improve the ballclub, like trading for someone like Morneau.
  14. If Soriano ever leads-off with Furcal on board I'd shoot my left nut.
  15. Still no Hermida? What could the Marlins possibly want in return? :(
  16. Any intent here to flip Marmol to the Padres in the Peavy negotiations?
  17. It was his nickname at Notre Dame, for some reason. He got it from preying upon weak secondaries (like a shark), if I'm not mistaken. I thought it was because with his nose that, from a profile view, he looks like a shark. Wade is correct. His teammates gave it to him as a poking-fun kind of thing. Samardzija was nicknamed Shark because of his resemblance to the animated Shark character on Finding Nemo (more on this below). In an interview to NBC, Samardzija himself said it all started on his freshman year at ND. He was new on the baseball team and out of nowhere they called him 'Shark'. It started during a game while he was pitching and they yelled at him from the dugout. Then Coach Paul Mainieri picked it up and it just snowballed from there. The funny thing is the actual representation of his character was not the one from Finding Nemo, but instead the one from Shark Tale; Lenny. http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/dreamworks_skg/shark_tale/jack_black/jack_black1.jpghttp://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/02/19/sports/190-jeff.jpg
  18. What about a two-inning closer? Is there such thing? Would that make Marmol more valuable?
  19. Still going... Here's a summary from today's Trib: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-081017-chicago-cubs-national-punchlines,0,7370165.story While it sucks and well deserved, there's nothing a Cub fan can do but just keep going.
  20. Move Soriano to RF, sign Texeira for LF. Done.
  21. You don't get it, do you? What I've been advocating tonight is relegating DeRosa to (1) super-sub role, unless he can switch to SS, and (2) considered his projected decline being replaced by the type of production that we haven't had from one (or two) corner outfields if Soriano could ever make a switch back to 2B. As for Furcal, he'd only take care of the SS. How many more good available shortstops are out there within possibility. Let alone the fact he'd outplay Ryan Theriot on one leg and make the plays Theriot can't. I'm through with you.
