  1. Okay then please explain it to me when you have the time. The basic parameters I have seen is the Bradley Chubb trade last year. The deal for Chase Young. And the asking price that was revealed for Danielle hunter by Albert Breer (top 60 pick). Hunter is 29 and the value asked for wasn't capitulated. Young was a late 3rd because of medicals. And I've already mentioned Chubb getting higher value than ~35ish. If we're arguing keep the pick and tank then sure I accept that being a better move overall. But that doesn't make the Sweat value bad to me.
  2. I'm not being intentionally obtuse. Okay so, edge isn't a solidified position already and Poles is a failure for that. The other side of the coin to me is what could he have done with the resources he had. Who was the big miss at edge in the draft or in FA? I could see an argument taking edge over Darnell Wright... Every year when the draft comes along it's here's our board. Draft for talent over need. He's in year 2 how is every position supposed to be solidified already?
  3. I simply don't agree Sweat being acquired for less than that of Bradley Chubb means it's bad value.
  4. I don't like to address only 1 thing out of many but I've already rambled for a long time about something that can be attacked in many ways. But in this case Pace was in year 6 as a GM on his 2nd HC who had depleted his draft capital already before. That roster was set up for zero future success unless Fields was such a huge hit he carried everybody. Sweat doesn't carry that type of levity or risk and cost significantly less. Again I am on what is probably a shrinking list of people who believe Poles will be here at least 1 more year.
  5. The hot take stuff was specifically referencing Fowler on Jaylon's contract offer. And for Sweat's contract extension being described as a well we'll get to it later maybe probably not a rental by Graziano. And had nothing to do with their take on the trade value. Shortly after this commentary Poles said that no final offer for Jaylon was ever made. Jaylon's camp jumped to a trade request as part of their negotiations and no specific monetary value has been described anywhere. He also mentioned how they are actively working and are confident in getting a deal done soon for Sweat , which is pretty significantly different verbiage than we'll at least make an effort. Only I personally mentioned it being good value. Mainly because of a proven commodity who just turned 27. The cost to acquire Sweat is less than that sent over for Chubb who was not even a year younger and went for a 1st and a 4th. This includes me not caring in the slightest about 4 cheap rookie years for the team with the most cap space in the league or close to it in consecutive years barely scraping above the salary floor. Nor do I believe the Bears need to be in an identical situation of contention as the Dolphins to mix and match draft assets for long term development at cheap pay vs. instant production at high pay. I have zero doubt there are many who argue against this in how it pertains to a long term roster building outlook. But this was an absolute disaster of a roster Poles inherited with barely any good draft picks over the last decade to build off of and absent a 1st rounder off the bat. You can look at basically any GM year 2 and find significant holes in his roster. This is not me absolving Poles of any criticism in how they have arrived at this situation. Nor in a vacuum how a top 40 pick for Sweat deal grades out. There are 2 2nd rounders on this team from last year both showing some promise and a lot of struggling. At best you'll see consistently good play from them maybe in 2025, if you're lucky. Regardless of if any of us agree with his methodology. Poles wants what every team wants. Layers of freaks to throw at the d-line. He now has 3 with Gervon, Pickens and Sweat. Now they'll be able to complete a fair evaluation of the defense - one which likely concludes Flus isn't being limited by talent and will no longer remain the HC.
  6. This Jeremy Fowler stuff seems pretty overblown to me. As an aside to start off, I've never thought for a minute Poles wouldn't at least get his 3rd year to fulfill his vision for a rebuild. That plan has been sold and stamped. So I've never put any stock into Warren actually blowing up everything below him and finally aligning GM-HC-QB. It's just not the Bears way. Or Poles being handcuffed and not able to make deals moving future capital while his job hangs in jeopardy. This trade didn't move the needle for me in any way regarding Poles' future here (for now). This is just my take and how it pertains to how I perceive this move. Regarding this move being a rental, it's incredibly hard for me to believe they're not aggressively negotiating an in-season extension for Sweat now (and have been), 'the groundwork' has just been laid out with the Rashan Gary deal. Brad Biggs has shared this same sentiment and he's actually connected. Poles has the leverage with 2 years of franchise tags, it makes sense for everyone to get a big deal done now. Seems like a much better idea to wait and see what it looks like then to assume its not there. I would hope the extension timeline would follow the Bradley Chubb one pretty closely to help wrap this up while acknowledging the Roquan extension not being finalized until January. There's a large window here potentially and the longer it lingers, with Poles having earned zero benefit of the doubt so far, anxiety will understandably increase, especially with the Jaylon debacle orbiting. However, this time feels appropriate to pop a Bears Xanax instead of ruminating about ESPN hot takes and Falcon's beat writers declaring Sweat's disappointment for him. Fowler and Dan Graziano muddying up this deal with clickbait speculation: Contract numbers for Jaylon "was considered pretty low" - oh yeah by whom and what were the terms? Extension plans for Sweat: "will at least make an effort to re-sign" - wtf is that and what does Graziano know? In my estimation, there are multiple factors overshadowing what I believe to be a good value move that significantly helps this team now and in the future. It's really just a blend containing a lack of organizational confidence. Completely fair questions for how it fits the rebuild. A multitude of question marks lingering for how this all fits together and in what timeline. Jaylon aggressively pursuing an over-market deal, which wasn't capitulated by a trade partner that we know of either. His feelings are hurt and he's shut down negotiations. The stench of Chase Claypool - the acceptance of the sunk cost but the feeling you can't completely shake for how bad it turned out. And finally, the horsefeathers being stirred up by these media horsefeathers birds. The latter being the most annoying offender. It hasn't even been 24 hours since the trade has been finalized, a modicum of patience would do wonders. But through it all, I'm a big fan of Montez Sweat being a Bear. I'm a simple man who wants the Bears to have a cromulent d-line.
  7. Niners traded one of their compensatory 3rd rounders. Probably looking to use Young as a pure rental. If he stays healthy and signs in FA (Poles gets both Washington edges after all?), they turn their 2024 comp 3 into a 2025 comp 3.
  8. Looks like there is plenty of optimism Kyler, Eddie and Jaylon will be back. At home, no Jefferson and Fields' recent play, this is as good as I'm gonna feel about a win, I think.
  9. I'm forever on the Marv jr. train. As always, a litany of teams in the top 10 in need of QB - but can't go lower than 3 (Caleb/Maye 1-2). To me, Marv jr. is too good of a prospect to expect to be able to trade back up and acquire. Brock Bowers would be fantastic too. Would love to see the offense with 2 high caliber weapons, period. The middle of the field would certainly get a lot more attention. For maximal enjoyment as a fan with a reasonable outcome (i.e., glfore's post above and others). Fields continues his upward trajectory and maintains consistency. 250 yards and 2 TD's seems ho-hum. Footwork/timing continually gets cleaned up and throws come out with anticipation. Get an extra pick or 2 moving down from 1 to 2/3 for Marv jr. Draft an edge at ~15 and sign Young/Sweat to pair with him. Upgrade interior oline, yada yada... There's some clear holes here. I'm higher on Braxton than most - albeit a lot of evaluation still to come. Flus is still not inspiring as a HC. Gervon is showing promise but 3T is still a big question mark. I'm getting carried away... Caleb and a new coaching staff isn't the worst consolation prize in the history of the Bears fandom cycle. But there's a lot of potential here for the time being unless Fields implodes. With a nice soft stretch of defenses to come.
  10. If Fields (fully)/Eddie/Mooney were all healthy I'd have some semblance of optimism for this game. As it stands now, I just want to see them sit Fields through the bye and tank on. The #2 pick is more fun than this team now.
  11. Chris Morgan hired as OL coach. Spent last season with the Steelers. https://www.chicagobears.com/news/bears-hire-chris-morgan-as-offensive-line-coach
  12. Not imagining he's really stepped up his play:
  13. It still seems odd to poach an OC from the Bills for a HC gig. But I'd be a fan of this hire. If it's not the Bears he'll end up as a HC somewhere.
  14. Only part I disagree with here. I think Montgomery is going to wreak havoc employed in this scheme and end up as ROY.
  15. Sweet. Feelings on trade deadline improve dramatically.
  16. I’ve seen it.
  17. 4chan got Theo ‘shivering’ with a troll job started a couple years ago. On the day Russell comes back to boot, how coincidental. I couldn’t have foreseen white supremacists taking the circle game away.
  18. Considering this draft took the majority hit on the Mack & Miller acquisitions, came out a smashing success from what I can tell. Montgomery appears to be a perfect fit in the backfield and to get that value for Ridley and mold that promising young/cheap WR core to grow with Trubisky is ideal. The UDFA haul is particularly impressive, Raymond I imagine is almost a lock to make the roster at TE and it's particularly confusing that Emmanuel Hall wasn't drafted. Looks like he could win a roster spot over the other newly acquired Hall. Don't know anything about the OL but sounds like a decent chance one makes the roster. Special teams will be significantly improved as long as they land on the right kicker.
  19. Seems like an inordinate amount of 0-2 counts for a pitcher who’s given up 6 runs in less than 2 innings.
  20. Tyreek Hill beat up his kid. Already beat up a girlfriend in 2014. This was in the midst of negotiations to become the highest paid WR in NFL history. Allegedly broke his kid’s arm. https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article227983684.html
  21. No idea how adept his run stopping ability is. But the guy had 3 missed tackles last year and Amos had 9. Let the front 7 take care of the run I don’t think he’ll be an issue as the last level. There does seem to be a consensus on inconsistent play/effort.
  22. I've seen in a couple of places (Twitter and another board) some rumblings that they may still bring Callahan back and use Skrine in some sort of supersub role. Would be interesting to say the least. Skrine outside of the slot isn't ideal but Pagano is the DB whisperer. I think its safe to assume Callahan's best bet at this point is a 1 year prove it deal to show he can stay healthy for a full season. With McManis still around as well, would make for some impressive depth. They can save 9 mil if they move on from Prince next year as well so having someone they know that can take some snaps out there would be comforting in that decision making process I'm sure. All in all though, not expecting that to happen. Also I came across this breakdown of Dix thought it was pretty good:
  23. I'm happy with what Pace has done in FA again. But I like Skrine better than most and foresee a lot of big plays from him in the nickel spot especially with the blitz. Davis and Patterson are good fits and did not expect that type of deal for Dix. Who knew Callahan's medicals were this scary to teams. Haven't seen a single team named in connection to him. Plenty of edge guys sitting out there. Inking Houston to a 1 year deal would be pretty sweet.
  24. Well that's not bad. Buys em' time to find another safety (could still be Bush) in the draft to do the job for cheap.
